Re: MC 2.7

2006-02-16 Thread xavier . bury

Hi Chipp

Im not saying it must be a rev app.
But opening MC made tools in terminal services or metaframes
where the bitdepth is not 24/32 creates
horrible unpredicable color changes at any time - while this
is ok for administrative tools which
only i use, it can't be ok for enterprise users.

The latest issue i reported on the list
with crashes when reading files when theres a windows API
timeout retrieving the files is another
issue im very concerned with. Bugzilla in the making but a new
phase of testing is underway.

I've been using Enterprise MetaCard
since 1999. I refused to update to rev due to the lack of
ntevents reported on faults and crashes.
I do update the engine from rev but i cannot afford to
add further risks in my applications
(they are used daily to make critical migrations of banking data)
and i see lots of unexpected crashes
at home in the rev IDE which make me skeptical that it's
worth the update. I will update when
i think it's solid enough... But it's still not the case.

cheers
Xavier

Re: MC 2.7

2006-02-16 Thread xavier . bury

This was in early 2005... I seriously
dont remember.

I know i was asked to get in then removed
without consideration. Given all the bugzillas i wrote from 2004 until
mid 2005 I never got ever aknowledged
despite repeated requests to support,
i seriously gave up requesting anything from support who usually responded
with the lamest excuses (sorry, that's
how this customer felt).

Despite repeated and direct exchanges
with Kevin, the same mistakes keep coming - not that Kevin answered often.
Not that these weren't repeated in Monterey by Dan - and later aknowledged
with some bugzilla feedback... It was but too late and too little in my
opinion. meanwhile useless for business graphics are more bugs are introduced...

What's the use? Hundreds of hours in
their benefit entering bugzillas, repeating the issues to hopefully someone
who could direct their processes and quality and then being ignored up
to this release
is not my responsibility to fix.

If i update to Rev enterprise (peanuts
money for my company - not for my personal license though), i still have
1 case that is since 1999 blamed on windows drivers when the fault is clearly
in rev/mc engine.
That was later posted as bugzilla 1076...
For the life of me, i couldn't release a metacard based software to any
of our 3000 users in the company since we all use terminal services or
metaframe servers...

Superb isn't it?!

i just lost the hope that my help or
critiques could help...

For some reason, and after lots of asking
my studio license was inserted in the list.

Then it was removed by Heather - and
she never looked if i wasn't also an enterprise user.

It's not like i haven't already logged
10% of all open bugzillas either...

im seriously displeased at this level

8 bit screen problems on windows

2006-01-04 Thread xavier . bury

Hi everyone

I have a minor problem that is getting worse and worse.

I use Metacard (soon to be updated since the new MC
engine may not work with our old license) and no matter what version i
use i keep getting this problem.

The problem happens always on terminal services (NT4,
NT2000, NT2003) or citrix based (NT4, NT2000, or XP) servers all of which
are set on 8 bit video for network performance. We have over 4GBs of ram,
4 CPUs so it is not a feeble server...

Even though i dont use images (i cant tell you how
bad the MC startup screen or the MC color chooser looks...) but now the
problem is that i get color changes in display AND ONLY IN MC anytime
this does not affect any other programs...

I wont buy either any BOFH BS regarding our video
driver problems since ONLY MC is affected.

The problem is that it happens anytime and the displays,
text or colored controls are unreadeable... The stacks open correctly when
begin the session and it switches ANYTIME without reason...

Can anyone elucidate this? Is there a solution coming?
Bugzilla was already entered, bug was reported to Scott Raney 6 years ago,
and it is still happening... For an enterprise tool, this is really really
starting to look bad...

Thanks for any help or pointers

Regards
Xavier

RE: Network Help - more

2001-02-05 Thread Xavier Bury

HKLM (the regedit abbrev) is only local to your machine but changing the
other keys will not affect the network! Rather, it's the network system that
will change your keys.

If you want a special file association spread out, you'll have to include it
into the login script to add the missing key. Ask your domain admin or
consult www.ntfaq.com.

Another solution would be to write it when your program runs BUT, if the
user is not admin of his workstation or the policy forbids the users to
change their registries (which it should), then it's back to the login
script.

Concerning the slashes and quotes and command

use this script in your startup (unless it's for Macs of course) (please
correct if im wrong but it works between NT and 95x.

on CheckShellPlatform
if (the platform = "win32") and (word 1 of the systemversion is "windows")
then
set the shellcommand to "command.com"
  else
set the shellcommand to "cmd.exe"
  end if
end CheckShellPlatform

and if there is a space in a name in an NTFS volume you'll have to enclose
the string in quotes like this. I dont remember having problems with the /
or \.

Normally, this does the job:
get "dir c:\"

But here, there is a folder/shared folder with a space in it:

get "dir" && quote & "\\server\share test" & quote
get shell(it)

This is one of my favorite subjects...
Email Wording Optimizing = Pleasure in reading or finding.
Less crap = better mail list!

I dont know about you but... I definitely prefer having the scripts in the
email!
Finding pleasure! Copy paste !

What I dont like is when that same scripting is repeated over and over in
the thread! Be responsible, dont waste bandwidth! And you'll have lots less
to read!

RE: Installers

2001-01-19 Thread Xavier Bury

Dude,

If you write a program with MC then you can write your own installer!

here's the autorun.inf file you put at the root of your cdrom

[autorun]
OPEN=INSTALL.BAT
ICON=project.ico

To copy files, run a hidden DOS shell window!

install.bat

REM GRP:Proj.Lim
REM Cat:Limbu
REM Object: Limbu INSTALLER
REM Author: Xavier Bury

REM Version: 1.0

REM Modified: 20001602
REM Created: 20001602

ECHO OFF
if EXIST c:\myproject\ goto Update

echo Installation du Tarif Limbu en cours
 xcopy .\myproject\*.* c:\myproject\ /v /s /e

 if errorlevel 4 goto ErrorMemory
 if errorlevel 2 goto ErrorCancelled
 if errorlevel 0 goto endinstall

  goto unlockfiles

:Update
echo Mise a jour de fichier en cours
 copy .\myproject\*.* c:\myproject\ /v

 if errorlevel 4 goto ErrorMemory
 if errorlevel 2 goto ErrorCancelled
 if errorlevel 0 goto endinstall

goto unlockfiles

:ErrorMemory
  echo Not enough memory
  goto endinstall

:ErrorCancelled
  echo User aborted
  goto endinstall

:unlockfiles
 ATTRIB -r c:\myproject\*.* /S

:endinstall
exit

or...
have MC read the file, then write the file elsewhere!
Whichever it is, it shouldn't be hard to adapt to NT, changing drives,
editing autoexe.bat, etc...

The only MetaCard documentation you will ever need while scripting is the
index in the help menu of the mctool bar. Type object, property or function
to start with! Check out also open, write, directory, shell, etc... It's the
best reference for MC. There's more help pages at xworlds.com too! soon at
runrev.com i guess... The site is looking cooler at each change!

hope it helps before it's obsolete!

X going OS!

Good show! Simple scripts are the best!

As for your question about reading multiple sockets,
it should be no problem at all. There are two ways to do it...

PreParsed: Open your sockets with different messages according to different
sockets (ip's and/or ports)
or
Post-parsed: With the same message, you could compare the ips or ports to
handle the different messages.
or
Merry-Parsed: You even have a third option to parse different talks/messages
between the client(s) and server(s) to do for example a mix of both ftp,
http and email or what have you...
or
Unparsable: Cotton sockets are better for snowboarding

Am i wrong? Other concepts?

Sun Tzu said, "there are five notes of music
yet their combinations are infinite"

RE: FromSocketToField

2000-12-14 Thread Xavier Bury

I did look it up, and like it, i tried to get first a read from the server.

But then why do i get an error and what does that error mean?

Should I look it up in the technet or is this a MetaCard error code?

I've tried many times before with the write and neither got an answer...
I know for sure it works cause a friend made it work...
He wont give me his code so im trying...

RE: FromSocketToField

2000-12-13 Thread Xavier Bury

Andu,

I tried and failed again...

on mouseUp
  put "" into fld "socketresult"
put fld "url" &":"&fld "port" into theurl
open socket theurl with message "readmore"
end mouseUp

on readmore socketOpen
  put "reading socket" && socketOpen
read from socket socketOpen for 1024 with message "dataHasArrived"
end readmore

on dataHasArrived socketOpen, tData
  beep
  put "data has arrived"
  put tData into fld "data"
  Close socket socketopen
end dataHasArrived

all i get is
SocketError:212.166.2.96:21 Error 10057 reading socket
I tried port 21 FTP, 80 (HTTP)
and 27961, 27963 (Quake 3 servers)

and I get only errors 10057
Im sure im missing something... can someone help?

TIA
Cheers,
Xavier

Metaframe from citrix is a windows environment running of a server serving
metaframe clients - each of which could be running an NT session for
example. To reduce network usage, it's best to reduce colors to 8 bits. It
works just like NT would, well, almost...

RE: OK... I know what the problem was

2000-12-10 Thread Xavier Bury

i have reported the same kind of problems using metaframe (8bit color) when
transfering the stacks developped with my NT4 workstation (24 bit color). My
problem was the shading of the fields would go away. The only solution was
to change the field's style from Scrolling to Rect and back to Scrolling and
then it would be OK...

so developping first for a lower grade pc is the best way to go in these
cases... not normal but we have to deal with it... Im 100% sure that Macs
shouldn't be affected with this, it seems more like a windows feature - like
the 16 color lousy icons.

RE: Template for script editor

2000-12-05 Thread Xavier Bury

you basically have to do the following...

but it's dangerous... only work on copies...
It even works with 10 line license (Aren't MetaCard's Developpers totally
cool or what?).

open mctools
choose the tools menu, choose Control Browser.

When Resource Mover comes...
choose the "script editor 1"
edit script

The hard way...
in the msg box type
open "script editor 1"
modify...
do save as another stack (like a mainstack)

make a copy in the finder/explorer

open the stack again
make it a substack of the mctools

voila!

RE: replacetext and grep

2000-11-14 Thread Xavier Bury

i'll try again,

why does
 put replacetext(y,"$",tab) into y

not work at all
and

 put replacetext(y,".*$",tab) into y

replace ALL the text from the first font tag to the end of the file?

and
 put replacetext(y,"",tab) into y
still replace all the text to the end even though it's not supposed to go
beyond one tag...

i also tried with and

The strangest part is that I even separated EVERY tag with returns so that
each is sitting on one line.
This means that the "$" is not respecting something... I also tried with
escaping the character '\>'.

This is another one of these computer witchcraft things im sure...

replacetext and grep

2000-11-13 Thread Xavier Bury

Hi guys,

I thought I knew grep pretty well but i can't get it working!

im trying to convert html tables to tab files...

with these script samples... to strip the garbage tags

  put replacetext(y,"^$",empty) into y
  put replacetext(y,"$","") into y
  put replacetext(y,"",empty) into y

none of these worked!

  put replacetext(y,"",empty) into y

will delete the whole document and with a $ sign at the end will not find
the string!

in all cases, if I remove the $, ALL the text after the first tag found is
deleted down to the end of the document!

adding the exclusion of [~<] didn't have an effect... (is it supported at
all?)

I am sure that there is not characters between the beginning or end of the
line and the tag start or end.

casesensitive global didn't change anything.

i read the manual, and the xworlds tutorial pages but none helped...

i know that grep changes from one app to another but this is out of my
logic...

thanks for any help from anyone!
Xavier

background confusion

2000-11-11 Thread Xavier Bury

i made a cool little stack. It has different cards for one background. After
I finished this bg, i made a menubar...
However when i switch cards in my first bg, the menu bar disappears... How
can I integrate the two? (Without putting the menubar in the first group
that is... or is that absolutely necessary?

none problems to report!
not thouroughly tested as in NT4 though...
Absolutely NO problems to report from Win32 to NT problems other than a
silly fld color redraw problem (Win98/ME/TS to NT4SP5 or viceversa.. only)

i'll check tomorow if it happens on NT2k...

RE: Version tracking

2000-11-10 Thread Xavier Bury

> Still open to other ideas, preferrably w/o modifying the MC system stacks.

you can always use an external file but that's really beyond the purpose of
having such a great system as MC. you can store the info as a prop as was
previously suggested and using a standard would assure upgrades... At least
you'll be sure no stupid user will remove the file and your stack go bananas
cause it's missing!

what version was i?

RE: Version tracking

2000-11-10 Thread Xavier Bury

There is no save feature in MC - not like HC!
you just need to put a message handler

on closestack
savestack - handle your versioning here
  pass closestack
end closestack

that's it... note your stack will be automatically saved in this way so you
might want to put a
answer "sure you want to save?" statement before...
and a
increase version? question if necessary...

you might also consider Windows Scripting running through the cmd
but you'd be exposing the system to serious virus damage if unsafe...

i've tried it but never got any info back from the window so you
might want to redirect the output to a file.

i made a really cool Media Browser based on the QuickTime engine.
It's freeware, requires MC, it's small but it works with all the qt
formats...

it plays mp3s, mpgs, movs, mids, etc...

you can find it at http://www.monsieurx.com/hyper/metacard.html

enjoy!

suggestions welcome!

you must reboot after you install QT or at least quit MC but i'd
recommend rebooting. QT is system software...

 i'd guess if it answers,
 it's passed the startup tests...

maybe make an installer stack and then runs your stack but if you must
reboot...

there's also an issue with QT2 which is unremovable.
Let me know and i send you a procedure to remove it safely...

RE: sockets: a revelation

2000-11-06 Thread Xavier Bury

i'll answer my own questions...

> ok, but how do you read the info or request it?
> suppose you know the ip and port to use only?

according to what i saw in the ftp client made with MC (listed in the
www.xworlds.com contributions...
What you have to do is to open the socket
The port is for example 80 for a web server, 21 for ftp, etc (see the RFCs
(ez to find at yahoo) for most common server formats). Other programs like
game servers or particular programs (CUCME, Roger Wilco, Hotline,
MSNMessenger, etc...) depend on the program. Finding those protocols and
datagrams is not easy. You'll have to look for source code or sniff the
packets... Source code is usually easier to find.

(Debugging note: a firewall program can block your packets so make sure that
they pass first. You can ping the server for example but some firewalls will
block either the address (websense.com) or the ports or any combination of.
Ask the net administrator at your work place. Just remember that this would
imply that the program you would try to emulate would not work either since
they would also be blocked.)

Once you've opened the socket using the right "ip:port" url, you'll have to
send it some datagrams or a message.
For http, it's a message and for a quake server it's a datagram.
If you dont send anything, the connection will simple open and close
(right?).

So you write the socket a query
in http, it can be "GET,OPTIONS,etc... (thanks to Spade.org)

in quake, you have to send it datagrams (thanks to Qstats and source code at
http://www.activesw.com/people/steve and Luc the fragmaster at
http//3d.win.be/

if you dont do that, you wont get anything...
i still havent got anything from any quake servers yet but soon i hope!

The FTP client is a great example on how to use the sockets
and you can read it's source in the stack script.
It's a good explanation of how an ftp server works!

im writting a socketsbrowser, it should be ready for xmas!

RE: sockets: a revelation

2000-11-04 Thread Xavier Bury

ok, but how do you read the info or request it?
suppose you know the ip and port to use only?

does anyone have an explanation about how to read datagrams?
how do you discover the protocol? is this necessary?

for example, i'd like to list quake servers available...
how do you go about finding this out?

i've searched for possible info on the web but it's too polluted with
scripts, tricks and tweaks...

a url will do surely!
im not refering to cgi's btw.

Thanks
Xavier

RE: Standalone Configuration Utility

but why use an external file when the stack is a file?
you have a native and super easy way to store info
in the cards, no need to mess around with and parse a file
let alone adapt to go cross platform... create a card for the
current stack, it remembers the stack's last use info, then
for windows' prefs, same thing... i'll try to make a working
stack or a procedure...

RE: Recursive Search?

2000-10-13 Thread Xavier Bury

sorry about that... the site is a bit anarchic...

the downloads are now available...
remember they are in mac hypercard format still...

unfortunately, i have to fly to london tomorow
for a professional unforseen chance to click
3 times "ok" and pull down 3 menus... because
someone wants to cover their ass!

<< so i'll be short - i thought >> (ed.)

great weekend in perspective too! i missed a "free" deep purple
concert cause i got to wake up at 4AM to catch a plane but
you got your files, i fixed the xos downloads page! i'll check
the rest later maybe on sunday if im back...

the script... you should find enough materials in the following
stacks...

look in the stack scripts...
be warned that they will give trouble to MC's script syntax
checker... but that's a quick 10 minutes fix for all the stacks...
lest them work is another but i've had pleasant surprises...
Note: i've only tried to convert them to MC from a Mac...
it worked that way for me... i wouldn't try direct on Win...

home* - look at the card script of the preferences card
paths cards "stacks", "applications" and stack script
managers/files - functions premade!
Masters/Rinadis - GetDir is the best

come to think of it, in the xtraagents.sit file there
is the stack compaquer, that does that... xos is open
source so if you find improvements, their welcome!

in brief remember for MC that you have to choose scripts for platforms
so here's the pc version too. unix should be a simple ls apath statement
i think (Scott?)

on answerListfolders adir
answer folder "Please choose a folder to recurse"
if it is "" then exit answerListFolders
  answer ListFolder(it)
end answerListFolders

function ListFolder apath,recurse
if the platform contains "win" then
return shell("pushd apath\ntree apath") -- is the \n correct for pcs?
or
   return shell("pushd apath\ndir apath /whatever\npopd") -- is the \n
correct for pcs?
  else
-- there's an osax Jon's OSAX that does it on the mac through
applescripts...
or with GetDir from Rinaldi (i think but Jon's got also a folder lister
that might...)
return GetDir(subpath,"FD+","o=p")
  end if
end ListFolder

all options are free or almost...
why rewrite the wheel? ;)

have a good weekend!

RE: SGI Users

2000-10-13 Thread Xavier Bury

your browser or Netscape might contain that info in the prefs in the file to
program association... an SGI.audio|sound faq maybe?

why not recompile a linux or sun player?
