Re: [meteorite-list] Divining and dowsing-a question
OK, I worked for Duke Energy for several years, and now work for the city. My father retired after 28 years with Duke Energy as a lineman supervisor and I can tell you NOT ONCE have I ever or did I ever see anyone using clothes hangers to locate thousands and thousands of dollars of buried cable. They ALWAYS preferred 99.% accurate electronics made specifically to locate cables and utility lines, not to mention the liability involved in a "chance" encounter with someone's million dollar fiber-optic cable with the potential to cause millions of dollars damage if cut!! If they are on the List, they are sure being kind of quiet. What ever name you want to put on using the rods, divining, dowsing, who cares, they are used quite a bit in both types of businesses. I have even seen municipal workers using them to locate their own stuff underground. Wow, imagine that, sure a lot of good folks out there using bullshit to maintain your underground utilities. Someone aught to clue 'em in, eh? Just be prepared anyone doing the cluing, you might want to back up a bit when you tell them that their efforts to keep from hitting your power, water, sewer or whatever prior to excavation is nothing more than bullshit. Really not much to do with meteoritics but for those interested TAM (The Amazing Meeting) 8 will be held in Vegas on July 8-10 at the South Point Hotel and Casino. Richard Dawkins, James Randi, Phil Plait , Michael Shermer, Paul Kurtz ,Adam Savage and many more will be in attendance. This should be one of the best yet. Go to http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/amazing-meeting/880-the-amazing-meeting-8-2010.html for more info. Unfortunately I can't make this one. Re: [meteorite-list] Divining and dowsing-a question
Well said that man. I recall a few years ago when BIMS did a meteorite exhibition, one of the things we had on the stand was a classic meteorwrong (a piece of weathered marcasite), it was in front of a bunch of real meteorites. A women came up to the stand wearing various large beads around her neck, and said she was interested in 'crystal healing'. She picked up the nearest rock which unknown to her was the Marcasite!, and she said, wow I can really feel the energy coming off this meteorite, they are much more powerful than normal rocks you can always tell... this says it all imho!!
