You could say that RDFa is another brand of semantic (X)HTML that follows
 its own principles.

Just to be complete: Simply to use the html elements for what they where
designed for is at least the first step to semantic (x)html. Even more
important than microformats and RDFa. If used properly, any single bit of
html markup _is_ semantic markup.

And, last not least, the rdf and owl effords of the w3c is semantic web, too,
although it has nothing to do with (x)html. But well, the web is not
identical to (x)html!

What ufs(.org) has done is bring about a new category i.e. microformats
into the collective mindspace, similar to Palm computers.

Without a brand name to go with the category microformats,
What will happen, is the Darwinian like splintering of categories into sub
categories as in iPod, Zune, BlackBerry etc.

The term nor site microformats(.org) did not bring about a new category.

The category pre-existed: semantic (X)HTML.

microformats is the specific brand (your term) of semantic (X)HTML that
follows the microformats principles and process.
