I think this is "presumed basic OpenBSD tenets", it's not mentioned
anywhere official that I know of, like http://www.openbsd.org/goals.html
for example.

*shrug* that was done nearly 6 years ago, and the php.ini was changed at
the same time. I guess you'd have to find the person who made that change
and see if he remembers if you wanted to know that.

This stuff all Just Works for many other people. We'd be seeing a
lot more questions about it if it didn't.

They are loaded before chroot. You can see this if you use
ktrace(1). This is a good tool to learn how to use.

Something is corrupting and dropping packets between the machines.
If you list what you've done to try and isolate/fix it, maybe people
can come up with things you might have missed.

Uk wireless usb modems

2009-02-06 Thread Tom Jones

Hi,
I am wondering whether there are any users based in the UK that are using
usb wireless modems(advertised as Mobile Broadband). I have done some research
into the freely available(with contract at least) usb modems in the UK, but all
the manufacture detail is hidden behind carrier branding.

I have already seen the umsm(4) page, but haven't found any details of support
devices being used in the UK, or available at reasonable price.

Thanks for your Time

Shared Hosting Limit File System usage

2009-02-06 Thread Siju George
Hi,

Given that OpenBSD does not support File System Quotas how can it be
implemented if an OpenBSD system is used for Shared Hosting?
Is there any software that can be installed to acheive this?

Thanks

Siju

My 3 umsm is an E160G - which reminds me, it needs adding to umsm(4).

Heh, my t-mobile umsm is an E220.

@Tom Jones - ask to see the device when you are in the shop. Many have
the make / model on the underside. You should also read this:

Re: why wont my vlan interface accept this /28 ?

2009-02-06 Thread Simen Stavdal
Hello,

I've had a similar issue before, and cannot quite remember in detail, but
it was something like this ;

Check that you have a /etc/hostname.vlan203 config file, and modify the
netmask here.
Do you have any carp interfaces layered over vlan203 that may be
conflicting with the netmask?
If you do, correct this, and then issue a destroy on the carp interface
(if any), than the vlan interface, followed by sh /etc/netstart vlan203 ;
sh /etc/netstart carp203 (or other carp name if any).

So, summarised :
ifconfig | grep carp | grep vlan # Will tell you if you have vlandev 203
in use by any carp interfaces.
if you do, note the carp interface name (let's call it carp203).
Then, correct your /etc/hostname.vlan203 and /etc/hostname.carp203 files
with the correct netmask.
Then, issue a :
ifconfig carp203 destroy ; ifconfig vlan203 destroy ; sh /etc/netstart
vlan203 ; sh /etc/netstart carp203

This worked for me at least...

Cheers,
Simon

thanks Simon for that - it's similar but not the same issue. uux
[hmnbx4r...@gatekeeper.wzrd.com] on #openbsd sorted me out.

14:00 yeled: I think it is on 4.3. routing table snafu.

You can't create an interface (on a vlan?) if the network is already in
your route table. I am sharing my routes on both firewalls with OSPF so
this is where the issue arises.

uux came up with the idea of installing the vlan interface on boot time
(ie rebooting the box) and getting around this problem.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed?

  C.

most of them should work, either as-is, or with small changes.

3 give information; most are huawei. E220 matches the umsm(4) list.
the umsm list has E619G which seems to be a typo (can anyone confirm
this?) and is probably actually E169G also on 3's list.

t-mobile use option icon225/icon431.

new vodafone are option k3760, older ones huawei.

orange use icon225.

Every time I plug in a USB flash storage device,
whenever I do "fdisk -iy sd0" or any other disk task
I get this:

The device seems to work without any problem. What this
error means? bad device? bad sectors? bad disk geometry?

One more thing. This errors came after some "bioctl"
commands trying softraid, maybe bioctl altered something
on the USB device, cause the other USB device I was
using (to make a 2 usb device RAID) started to have the same
issue.

mount_ffs => Invalid argument

2009-02-06 Thread Jean-François
Hi All,

I used to have a disk with Ext3 partitions that I just wish to use now
as a ffs disk in OpenBSD. So I used fdisk and disklabel in order to make
new system and finally this does not mount returning Invalid argument.

Do I miss something ? I did'nt find a way to format the disk, is this
required ? I just made a clean new system on it using fdisk and one
label a containing the whole space.

Please help.

Thanks,
J-F

I was able to find them on display or a member of staff who had one I

I'm in the same boat aswell, I was thinking of going down the pay as you
go route rather then getting a contract, any of you using a ipv6 tunnel
on these dongles??
I was hoping on using a AYIYA tunnel from SixXS with these but wondering
if it'd work as the providers usually proxy everything.

Is this panic related to +ExecCGI?

Dear all,

for the first time ever I had one of my production boxes crashing. And
that was just a few hours after I allowed one of my users ExecCGI in her
home, in the chrooted, default, Apache.

The user was deploying some perl-script.

Can anyone with insight please look at the trace and point out to me if
there is a link between the +ExecCGI and the panic?

Was I blue-eyed when I allowed the deployment of perl as a
non-privileged user in the chrooted Apache, thinking that Apache and
perl would handle any exception well enough to not crash?

Thanks for advice,

Uwe

Ted Unangst wrote:

Thanks, Ted, for the fast reply and immediate insight. So it must have
to do with that perl-program, since what I usually see is something like:

Memory: Real: 107M/347M act/tot Free: 1637M Swap: 0K/2151M used/tot

Slightly off-topic:
Would it rather be perl committing all that memory or httpd?
Can this be prevented one way or another?
I understand the development was done on some Ubuntu-flavour, and then
transferred to OpenBSD. Can we have something like a sandbox for such
situations, so that applications are running on the system, but with
limited resources? The underlying application was supposed to run on a
production machine with 100+ users, and at one moment in time it did
need to be tested, after it ran successfully on a laptop. What would be
a better strategy?

Thanks again,

Uwe
P.S.: And Hurray! to the serial console. I could do the trace and reboot
an otherwise unaccessible and remote machine!

Instability in -current with ral/rt2860?

2009-02-06 Thread bbee

Hi,

In a net5501 I have a rt2860 ral card, running the Feb 04 snapshot:
ral0 at pci0 dev 14 function 0 "Ralink RT2860" rev 0x00: irq 10
ral0: MAC/BBP RT2860 (rev 0x0101), RF RT2820 (MIMO 2T3R)

I've been trying snapshots off and on since damien@ started tinkering with
the rt2860 code two months ago. With any snapshot from the last 2 months, I
can't get the box to stay up for more than 2 hours (or less) without it
rebooting. If I turn off the watchdog timer, it will just hang without
printing any messages. If I "ifconfig ral0 down", the box is rock stable.

Is anyone else seeing this with -current or a snapshot, with this ral or a
different one? I'd file a problem report but there's nothing to go on,
other than my suspicions that the changes to rt2860 in the last 2 months
are the cause.

I can try to narrow it down to a specific commit if that will help?

If I switch to a 4.4 kernel, the hangs stop but the widely reported ral
traffic freezes are still there (PR 5958), which was what I was hoping to
fix.

Please CC,

bbee
