Re: [Mobile.AI] some issues regarding talkback after the update

2015-05-26 Thread Prashanth MN
Hi, hope I can ask under this thread only. After updating to the
latest version, I couldn't control the cursor by the volume key. So
editing text has become difficult task. How to over come from this
issue?

Hi,
Avichal,
I would ask Jelly Bean Keyboard users to comment on this.
Sagar,
Expanding your mentioning of Braille input, one can type on Touch Screen
devices using a keyboard with a layout of a 6 dot Brailler. I have heard
Braille input having capabilities to surpass typing speeds of sighted on-screen
keyboard typists as well, but, haven't really tried it myself.
Such Braille input tools include MBraille for I OS and Android, Super Braille
Keyboard on Android, and, I believe I OS 8 had some pre-integrated Braille
input mechanism, I am not fully sure.
Thanks.

 Hi,
 Avichal,
By IVR, do you mean dialling numbers as instructed during calls to
companies technical support or customer care teams? If so, dialling
one number is extremely simple and doable.
If you require the steps for these, I will willingly provide them,
but, if you are referring to something else, do clarify.
A keyboard is a more powerful device than Touch Screen, however, if
done in the right way, most of the productivity and efficiency can

Re: [Mobile.AI] some issues regarding talkback after the update

2015-05-26 Thread Bhavya shah
Hi,
Anirban,
The fact that did this work for a certain time period even after the
update suggests that this problem isn't necessarily triggered by this
new version.
Try going into Settings > Accessibility > Talkback > Settings (or
simply global context menu > Talkback Settings) and then into Manage
Gestures.
Assign swipe up to next granularity and swipe down to previous
granularity and use your granularity with utmost freedom with these
simplified gestures.
Thanks.

Dear Bhavya,

the answers to your questions are as follows:

* i am facing this issue in the new version.
* i did customise the option cycle through reading granularities.
* i did manage to use the gestures quite successfully before this update.
* i've found this working for a few days after the update but since
the day before, it's absolutely stopped working.

looking forward to your suggestions, Greetings, Anirban Mukherjee

[Mobile.AI] BDot screen guard: a special screen guard for the visually impaired

2015-05-26 Thread Aaruni Sharma
Hello all, we have designed a special screen guard which facilitates
interaction with a touch screen device to a great extent. It came up as a
low cost solution for myself due to problems faced while typing. More
details can be found at:
www.arunisharma.wordpress.com.

Some of the screen guards are also available with Saksham, New Delhi.
Please read the blog post and leave your comments. Mail me privately if
anybody wants more details.

Re: [Mobile.AI] some issues regarding talkback after the update

2015-05-26 Thread Bhavya shah
Hi,
Anirban,
* Are the difficulties you are facing while performing the two-part
vertical gesture specific to this newer version or have you always
found this gesture difficult?
* Have you tried customizing the cycle through granularity options to
swipe up and down like many folks have already done?
* Are you finding performing the two-part vertical gesture hit and
miss with this newer version or simply absolutely non-functional?
Do give your answers to the above few questions to assist us in giving
workable solutions.
Thanks.

Hello Ajay. Moving appds will definitely help since only about 2 GB storage
is available to the user. There is another androidone phone from Xolo
called Xolo 1 and it has 8 GB of internal storage. But can't comment on the

Hi sir,
Have been clearing the cash but haven't moved any apps to sd card yet.
Even with whatsapp and 1- 2 more apps, it shows just 400- 500 user
available internal memory.
This issue is more prevalent after LP update, things were better in KK.

Hi,
Take spice only if you want to install 1- 2 apps, otherwise, after
regular usage it shows "insufficient memory".
I am using it and don't find its memory management up to the mark.
All in all, wouldn't recommend if it has to be the only device
otherwise, as a backup phone, it is wonderful.
Thanks,

Re: [Mobile.AI] There's Another Screen Reader, and it Wants to Shine on your Android device

2015-05-26 Thread Bhavya shah
Hi,
Avichal,
I would ask Jelly Bean Keyboard users to comment on this.
Sagar,
Expanding your mentioning of Braille input, one can type on Touch
Screen devices using a keyboard with a layout of a 6 dot Brailler. I
have heard Braille input having capabilities to surpass typing speeds
of sighted on-screen keyboard typists as well, but, haven't really
tried it myself.
Such Braille input tools include MBraille for I OS and Android, Super
Braille Keyboard on Android, and, I believe I OS 8 had some
pre-integrated Braille input mechanism, I am not fully sure.
Thanks.

 Hi,
 Avichal,
By IVR, do you mean dialling numbers as instructed during calls to
 companies
technical support or customer care teams? If so, dialling one number is
 extremely simple and doable.
If you require the steps for these, I will willingly provide them, but,
 if
you are referring to something else, do clarify.
A keyboard is a more powerful device than Touch Screen, however, if
 done
 in
the right way, most of the productivity and efficiency can be emulated
 via
 a
Touch Screen input method, even for the visually impaired.
My first device was an Android powered full touch Motorolla G second
generation which I am happily usig=ng even now. For places where I
 require
to type, I use Voice Input to emulate the same speed of a keyboard
 user.
All the same, I like my computer and its keyboarding facilities to
 perform
majority of my tasks, however, the same applies to a significant extent
 to
 sighted people as well.
Anyways, as Harish Sir rightly said, discussing this further would
 truly
 lead nowhere. Make ef

Hi,
Ketan,
I believe there would be numerous choices available on Amazon, which,
I should take a look at as well, however, could you contact your

ascertain its compatibility with an Android Tablet, please?
I guess it would be difficult to track down the keyboard your friend
uses with this much information...
Thanks.

Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility in budget phones

2015-05-26 Thread Bhavya shah
Hi,
Aruni,
4k for such a powerful device, comparable to the Motorolla G second
generation, very interesting news...
To back Aruni, the Android One series is a very good option to
consider for beginners in the Touch Screen arena, especially when
Flipkart can sell it for a limited period for almost half the price.
Xiaomi devices like the RedMi2, till my reading, isn't completely
enriched in terms of accessibility, hence, I wouldn't really confirm
the feasibility of its purchase for a visually impaired individual
beginner. Third party applications installations should more or less
equal your experience and ease with the accessibility of stock
Android, however, often, it has been observed the difficulties
beginners face while doing this stuff.
So, always try to begin with a phone well reputed in terms of
accessibility, such as Samsung's Touchwiz or Google's stock android.
Thanks.

Hey Payal,

Nobody can help you unless you state it clearly what issues you are facing.
If you would have mentioned your issues in your very first mail, may be this
mail from me would have something or may be, someone else might have
responded by now. So, by just saying that I am facing some problem is not
going to fetch you the sollution!

Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility in budget phones

2015-05-26 Thread Aaruni Sharma
Hello, Flipkart is selling spice dream uno for rs3999. It's a very good
phone with original android 5.1. Going for iPhone 4S is not a good idea
because it is very old and you will have to stick with the older version of
the IOS as the phone becomes very slow after upgrade.

while. There is an IFocus tutorial on Hadley School youtube channel as well
demostrating the use of KNFB Reader.

Re: [Mobile.AI] hardware keyboard Mobile.accessindia Digest, Vol 32, Issue 29

2015-05-26 Thread ketan modi
Hi bhavya,
Please check on amazon, friend of mine who uses I phone using the
physical keyboard. Almost it covers all your given requirements.
He has been using since three years and nothing happen to it. I also
suggest you do not look for brand name. It’s not necessary that the
branded product will last for longer duarability and cater your need
uninterruptedly.
I don’t know the company’s name but he purchased around RS. 3200
Hope this has answered your query and help you to take your decision
