Dear All,

Considering that touch screen phones are the need of the hour for
visually challenged and Android opens up many possibilities for
visually challenged, Snehankit Helpline has created a tetorial in
Marathi on learning basic Android with hands on approach.

It was observed that, there are many tetorials available in English,
however, no such tetorial was available in Marathi and as such many
persons with visual impairment who are not well verst with English
were left out.

In order to address these issues idea of recording a tetorial in
Marathi for Android was executed.

You may download the tetorial from the following link:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/zfbpin
The tetorial may be available on above link for limited period.

In case of any feed-back/questions, please contact Snehankit Helpline
on +91 22 2628 8239
or
Email on: snehankithelpl...@gmail.com
Or

Hope this initiative shall inspire many more to take-up Android touch
phone and use it effectively.

Thanks and warm regards,

2015-09-19 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Hello Mohib, you are absolutely right. In the Symbian opperating system
with physical keypad, you had a complete control over the phone, which you
never get in the Android system with touch screen. Earlier, there used to be
separate folders for the miss calls, received calls and the calls made by
us, but, in the android system, everything is mixed together. We are opting
Android by compultion and not by choice. Recently I have upgraded my phone
to 5.1.1, in which they have made so maney changes, which are not at all
desirable. Earlier, to unlock the phone, we had to swipe from left to right,
but now we have to swipe vertically with two fingers from down to top. Many
of the terms have also been changed. for example, Messeging has now become
Messenger. call history button has become something else.

Good.
May newer screen readers continue to shine on android.
But, frankly, and here I believe I am speaking for most of totally blind
persons above age of 35, that ease of symbian is surely missing in android
touch screen phones, and I vehemently lament the loss of that ease and
privacy on phone.
For me, Even performing a simple task as forwarding messages is an uphill
task even after trying and exploring touch screen for about eight months
now.

This will be the case until an android device with keypad comes along.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] There’s Another Screen Reader, and it Wants to Shine
on your Android device

There’s Another Screen Reader, and it Wants to Shine on your Android
device TAMAS GECZY ON MAY 19, 2015 For the longest time, Talkback has been
the only good and useful screen reader on Android — though this was not
always the case. Senior Android users might fondly recall Spiel, which was
alive around 2011 last, a screen reader that even surpassed Talkback in
functionality and speed. Google then suddenly changed the entire framework
for how accessibility is done on their platform, and Spiel was no more.
Although current compiled releases of it can be run successfully even
under Android 5.1, the code is not often maintained and needs a lot of
work to be a daily driver.
And then, without warning, a new contender came on to the scene. The 1
megabyte screen reader, which is technically called Shine Plus is
developed by a Chinese company called ATLab. As a result, the English text
of the program and manual is not constructed well, though this does not
take away from its functionality if you are willing to learn and be
patient with the interface. The manual can be found here in a text file
form.

You might be wondering, is it better than Talkback?
Before we dive into some of the unique features of Shine plus, we must
note that it is a very special screen reader as it also includes a screen
magnifier and other tools for people who have high-partial vision. This
means that it not only is a screen reader, but also a magnifier at the
same time. In the Android world, that’s definitely a first, and this
reason alone could make it useful for many people, since changing the mode
it operates in is very simple.
When you first install the Shine Plus application (it does not call itself
“Another Talkback screen reader”), you need to launch the application from
your home screen to configure it. Here you will set your desired mode
depending on the level of vision you have. First, the app will actually
check whether you have Google TTS or the keyboard installed, and then will
proceed to allow you the option to set your mode of preference. Once you
press the back button, it will place you into the Accessibility settings
of Android, where you will be given a list of available services.
The three options are “based on voice support”, “based on letter
expansion”, and “sight protection.” No, it will not protect you from the
horrors of the sighted world — that latter choice is for those who need to
have parts of the screen spoken outloud from time to time. It allows you
to use a “candy bar” which you can pan around the screen and use to read
parts of it accordingly.
Voice support is what those who are completely blind will use, while the
other one (letter expansion) is for those who need letters zoomed bigger
as they use their device. Once you have set your choice, enabling the
screen reader is the next challenge.
We have found that in most cases, it is impossible to press “OK” after the
confirmation dialog appears which asks you to turn on Shine Plus.
This is easy enough to resolve, though requires some agility. When you
have reached the alert prompt to enable it, Pause Talkback either through
the global context menu or the new volume up+ volume down key combination.
Once paused, press near the bottom right corner of the screen, right above
the home/back/recents button bar of your device.
This will activat

Folks,
You might well be aware of an Android app called TrueCaller, which does an
excellent job in identifying the unknown numbers that you receive over
your

mobile.
Today, TrueCaller released its own dialer which is called truedialer,
which
is 100% accessible at this moment, (don't know what would be its status
when

it starts getting updates). The best part of it that it uses a double
clicking method with TalkBack, which I'm sure many of us have been looking
for a long time. So, those who are familiar and comfortable with Equaleyes
preferred method of dialing your numbers, its for you!

Re: [Mobile.AI] Hey folks do u miss your symbian phone?

2014-10-07 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
All these discussions show that the blind are facing several genuin problems
with the Touch Screen, which did not exist in the Symbian phones.
Furthermore, these problems are not india-specific but universal. Few days
back I had subscribed to a group, where there were members mostly from the
countries of Europe and America, but they were also facing several problems
regarding the touch screen and were asking for different external key-pads.
Instead of just criticizing these discussions, one has to help finding out
solutions. I think, those who have prepared this operating system and its
corusponding Screen reader have not taken the blind into account. The touch
screen can be much more easy if all the buttons are labled, and if all the
buttons in all applications have a fixed place, what so ever it may be. If
the buttons like more options, delete, okay, cancal, done, are assigned a
fixed place, the blind would find it much easy. Thanking you, Yours,
Professor Shyam M. Sayanekar.

Re: [Mobile.AI] Hey folks do u miss your symbian phone?

2014-10-04 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Yes very much. This is so because; the ease and total control which you
could get in the symbian phone is not possible in the Android phone. The
option key, the menu key and the arrow keys give you full control over the
symbian phone. The typing eas in the Symbian phone is wonderful. In the
symbian phone the full phone could be operated with one hand with your
single thumb, whereas, in Android you require using both hands and more
fingers. Some say that they do everything just with one hand, but that is an
exception and not a rule. The main problem with the android phones is that
the location of different buttons such as delete button and more options
button in different operations is not fixed, and you take a lot of time to
locate them. Further more, many of the buttons are not labled. The number of
screens also add to our problems, All these problems are not there in the
Symbian.

not choice either for future but still I love Symbian and will be
missing when I will be losing it.

Its a memory card. It is smaller in size than the memory cards used in
most of older phones, so the micro SD label.
It comes in different capacities, cards of 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB are used
in most phones. Most entry level and mid range phones support cards up
to 32 GB. High end phones support cards up to even 128 GB, and mid
range options like the Asus Zenfon supports up to 64 GB cards.
You can move a Micro SD card from one phone to another. Phones,
particularly the entry level ones, would have very limited internal
storage, so to store more data, it is always good to have additional
storage available. If you store your songs, videos, photos and
documents on the SD card, then you can leave the internal storage for
the Android OS and the different apps installed. If you don't crowd
the internal storage, that would help the phone perform well.
Not all phones support the Micro SD cards though. Phones like the
Motorola Moto G and the Xiaomi Mi 3 do not support the feature, as is
the case with the Google Flagship Nexus phones. The Apple iPhone also
does not support a micro sd card.
Best,

there are two more jestures available which I forgot to mention.
1. swipe right then above in single motion: read from top.
2. swipe down then left: read from next item.

 2. swipe up/down (with 1 finger): move backword/forward 1 object.

 3. swipe right then down (with 1 movement): notifications area.

 4. swipe up then right (with 1 movement): global context menu.

 5. swipe down then right (with 1 movement): local contects menu.

 6. swipe right to left (with 2 finger): move to next page.

 7. swipe left to right (with 2 finger) move to previous page.

 8. two part vertical gesture: go to top/bottom screen

 9. double tap (with 1 finger): to launch selected items.

 10. double tap then hold (with 1 finger): move or drag an icon, view
more

  options for selected items.

alternatively you can use following two jestures instead of serial No.
 6 and 7 respectively,
 11. swipe right then left in single motion with one finger to go to next
page,

 12. swipe left then right in single motion with one finger to go to
 previous page.

there are other jestures too, but these are not of much use because
Moto E has three virtual keys at the bottom of the screen, namely,
back, home and recent apps. you can also change any jesture mentioned
above in talkback settings if you face any difficulty in performing a
 particular jesture.

Itt is not at all true that we Indians do not want to learn new things. It
is also not true that we want to stick to old things. Those who are arguing
in this way should remember that they are also Indians. Those who have
mastered the new Android phones have gone far ahead and are not in a mood
to understand that others are facing some genuin problems. I am trying my
best to learn my Moto x phone but I am not getting proper training. Instead
of criticizing others, the members who have mastered the Android phones
should try to help others. My problem is that on the android phone, things
keep moving and they have no fixed places. for example, it becomes very
difficult to locate the More Options button. Unless your queries are solved,
you cannot learn this phone on your own. further, many of the buttons are
not labled. at least Android should have taken care of this point.

Hi Satguru, I have changed the subject and we can discuss the matter
here in this thread.
I am using android moto g for quite some time now. The most difficulty
I have faced with the device is that I am totally handicapped using my
touchscreen phone at crowded places, such as at railway station,
market, or if I am walking on the road.
Suppose, if I am waiting for someone at railway station or at some
busy streat, first of all I have to hold the phone with both hands,
then have to swipe number of times to get the contact of person to
whom I want to call.
It seems very difficult specially when I am holding some luggage etc
in my hand. Even to dial the number you have to find out the digit at
the screen, than lift your finger, if some digit is entered wrongly,
find the button to delete. More over sending text messages under these
circumstances is very very difficult.
Similar is the story when I am walking on the road and I just want to
talk to somebody or to text anyperson, I will have to stand somewhere,
find the number and then call or sms.
Over all it is very cumbersome to use touchscreen device during such
circumstances. My nokia n79 became malfunctioned last week, due to
these problems which I faced, I got my nokia repaired, and I am very
very happy with my Symbian.
So my question is that how do you people deal with your touchscreen
phone at such places? is there any difference between android and
iPhone regarding using phone particularly at crowded places? is iPhone
is more easy to handle?

Putting a short cut to any of the homescreens would make the task more
easier.

[Mobile.AI] Queries about Nokia Screen Reader

2014-07-09 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Dear members, I have following queries regarding the Nokia Screen Reader: 1.
How far this screen reader is useful, and what all things can we do with it?
What is its position as compared to Neon's Talks? 2. Which all Nokia handsets
are supported by this screen reader? Are they with physical keypad or touch
screen? 3. Are there versions of this software? If yes, then which is the
latest version? Hoping to get detailed response. Yours,

[Mobile.AI] Query about mobile screens

2014-06-24 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Dear members, my new mobile Moto x has five screens, and it becomes difficult
to move to a desired screen. A sighted person suggested me that all the icons
can be brought to a single screen and rest of the four screens can be removed.
But since I am totally new to this phone, I was worried whether I should go for
this suggestion. Please guide. Thanking you, yours,

[Mobile.AI] Queries about Using Android

2014-06-16 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Dear expert friends, please answer my basic queries regarding the use of
Android phones with touch screen. My queries may sound to you very silly but
they are basic to me. If you answer all these queries, it will prepare a nice
guide for the new Android users.
Q1. What are the different finger gestures and how are they used? q2. At
present, I am using Nokia Phone with Talks and I have full control over it
because the menu key, the option key, the back key, the call and receive key,
the cancel key, the arrow keys and the entire key pad is in my hold. But in
Android, where are these keys? There location is not fixed. q3. How to make a
call or how to receive or cancel a call? How to select a particular person from
the list of contacts? where do we find the key pad to type the initial letter
of that person? q4. How to find and delete the miscalls? q5. How to send, read
or delete a message, where to locate the key pad to type, and where to find the
option key? How to do the spell checking? Where is the dictionary? q6. Where is
the voice recorder? If we record something, where to locate that recorded file?
q7. How to move from one screen to another? How to move the icons from one
screen to another? q8. Where is the accessibility option and where
is the granularity option? By now you must have realized that my main problem
is to locate the different keys. Once I get a firm grip over the keys, rest of
the things should be easier.

2014-06-10 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Hello Rajesh, the price of the mobile is 24 thousand rupees, pluss I had to
pay five percent LBT I.E. Local board Tax, which came to 1200 rupees, pluss
I had to spend on scratch guard and a cover. Thus the total cost came to 26
thousand. It has 2 GB RAM, 16 GB memory and Android 4.4.2 Kitcat. But I am

The talks based phones and TalkBack based phones work very
differently. It is about getting the concepts right, remember you have
to doubletap to activate something on a touchscreen phone ones
TalkBack is enabled. Talks and simbian are things of the past and
there no more new phones coming out on the platform, Android does
offer a lot more exciting possibilities. So it is hard to say Talks
based systems were better. Anyways it really doesn't matter, take your
time to understand the Android/TalkBack interface, give yourselves a
week or 10 days, try and explore some Android tutorials, you should be
good to go.

By the way it is not talkback which is responsible for slowing your

phone operates.

Hello listers,
for those who use Android phones, Google has comeout with an update to
their TTS application. The latest update has a few additional
voice/language options. One of the options is English India. There is
only a female voice available as of now. It does need further
refinement, but it is a good start from Google.

Intex launches touch and type smartphone for Rs 4,990

Homegrown handset maker Intex Technologies today launched its new touch
and type smartphone -- Aqua QWERTY -- for Rs 4,990.

The handset combines a touch-sensitive screen and a user-friendly typing
QWERT interface, aimed at offering users more choices in the way they use
their smartphones, Intex said in a statement.

The dual SIM device features a 3.5-inch display touchscreen, 1.2 GHz dual
core processor, 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, 1500 mAh battery, 512MB RAM and
internal memory of 4GB (expandable upto 32 GB).

It also has a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front camera.

"Aqua Qwerty is a product which offers the convenience of both touch and
type features for users who are QWERTY lovers but wish to explore the
touch experience at the same time," Intex Business Head (Mobile) Sanjay
Kumar Kalirona said.

Intex has stepped into the QWERTY keypad smartphone segment after a lot of
market research and believes that the Aqua Qwerty will be a vehicle of
smartphone adoption in the highly untapped segment of women smartphone
users in India, he added.

started on two grand handsets that I tried. I had commented that
samsung phones are in general superior in hardware. So you should try
some other samsung phone if you are interested.

[Mobile.AI] Ankits Message

2013-04-23 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Dear members, Ankit Jindal has sent a personal message to some member regarding
his versed experiences with Kiran. This is a reply to his mail, but I am
sending it to the group so that all the members will know about it. Dear Ankit
Jindal, I have all my sympathies with you, because same is the story with me as
well, only the difference is that you paid Rs. 10500 through the bank, while I
paid Rs. 12000 in cash. He was giving me verbatim the same assurances for about
12 days. But we will not let him free like that and I am sure, all the issues
will be dealt with in a proper manner. Now he has committed to return my amount
in cash on this Friday but until I actually get back the money, I have to keep
my fingers crossed. Character and faith are like a glass, once damaged, gone

Law is not biased you invoke relavant sections of IPC I have every
right under IT act. Lets file complaints in our respective rights.Your
mail to company demands money in cash back and also shows clear
intentions of avoiding accountability and disclousre of the funds in
your account to the income tax. You write to me that will the company
pay tax?

I clearly said all cancellations without reason will be
accepted and processed by 21st. My refund process starts after 21st. The
member volunteering has passed all cancellation requests to me and
moderator as agreed.

The non member who started defaming the company
is already facing all legal action from the company by way of court
cases filed against her in the court of law on 18th April 2013. UNDER
various sections of IPC & IT ACTS.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] my concepts of android

Dear friends,
Though I can never say that I am superior at technology.
But I have disturbed you and all more then I should do in the subject
of android.
Well after 15 day’s efforts of your and little bit of mineI can now
understand few things:
1 as vamshi sir distinct we have 3 choices: outdated nokia, confusing
android and expensive I phone.
Among all android has various options. We can try android if we have
enough time and desire to learn and experiment.
2 in android we have 2 options: touch and type and only touch screen
devices.

Touch and type phones are desirable, but unfortunatlly we do not have
many such devices now days.
While in touch screen we have plentey of choices.
3 touch screen devices are manageable but not comfortable at least in
the beginning.
4 like nokia android phones are not ready to use at the time of
purchasing at least in our case. We have to depend on few 3rd party
applications.
5 if we want to use android, we must buy some device and learn
ourselves. As other can advice but to teach using android is more then
tough job.
6 there might be some general principles of accessibility in android
but each one has his or her own distingt theory. So we must experiment
with our own device instead of asking foolish questions as I did.
Though whatever I have understood is not enough. But now at least I
have some idea. So now I will buy a nice budget phone and try to learn
myself without disturbing anyone.
I am thankful to you all, especially Harish sir, prateek, aruni sir,
abdul sir, sunil singtani mukesh jain etc for answering my childish
questions.
And of course, this list is wonderful.
I hope you all will guide me perpetually

high friends
android and I OS are 2 most accessable OS right now
apple phone r expensive but quality and after sales service is very
exelent.

in android we have many opsens as prise starts from 6k to 45k.
samsung and sony are to most brands which have full accessibility
features of talkback in built.
as per me dont go with so called indian or chinese brands as most
dont have talk back in built and also have many common features
missing.
after sales service is also questionable
good companies android phone starts from 7k with android 4.0I C S
and 8k for 4.1JB
i am using android for last 1 year with both qwerty and touch and
accessibility of both is ok.
for any query write to me or call me
i will be happy to help
success also hurts, when you dont have a loved one to wish you.
failer also looks beautiful, when you have a loved one to support you.

We welcome Jaya Prakash to take a lead in this matter, but, it is not
agreeable that the traffic on the group should be stopped, because it is
only through this group that all others also come to know so as to what is
happening. This group serves as a strong platform through which we can voice
our grievances. Therefore, the traffic on the group should not be stopped
until all the issues have been satisfactorily sorted out.

Hi dear

i am happy that you are aware of legal bounding ?!

What about delivery to those who are waiting for the mobile for so many
weeks ?

You are talking about cancellations and refund why dont you start
delivering the mobile instead of cancellations if you really stick to
your words

further some of those who have received the mobile are not satisfied they
are still waiting for memory card if it is wrong you may talk more

wait for their reply

you are claiming that you are the saviour of visually challenged
in what way you proved it
kindly wait for the compilation of all conversations that took place from
march 11 then you will come to know the third side of you !

It seems you are sending the mobile with out bill do you know what will
happen to you legally !

What is your reply for Namrata's Mail on access india list have you
unsubscribed from the list ? Do you want me to forward a copy to your
personal ID ?

At last you need to prove the accessibility options you have enabled ?
Other than manufacturer ?

Nearly 80+ times i have called you with regard delivery ? You will soon
receive a copy of compressed recordings of the conversations happened so
far

The list is endless !

Kannan, G Ramesh Banu Jayaprakash

"They were apprehensive for
various reasons but they met me at Pondichery University and saw all the
aspects of my work which Dr Ramkumar will probably write on the list.
both of them are also reading this and i shall quote that having met me
and seeing various work they have said "May God Bless You". Jayaprakash
was right."

This is a part of the mail which you are understanding.
The heading was having your name too along with two other names. look at
the lines where it was written both of them are reading this mail which
means it was refering to merely two people. You were the third person,
after I finished the line with a period i said jayprajash was right,
which means you were right in sending the earlier mail.

Dr ramkumar
clearly wrote an email that day, where he mentioned about my meeting
with some customers who had placed orders with us. and how will
mentioning of my meeting with you will help me in impressing anyone?
impress whom?

This mail is in the archive. So please dont paint your
vivid imaginations on basis of some thing in back.

To quote one instance on the same

list you wrote that i had met you at Pondicherry Varsity in reality it
is not so

further it is really good that you have mentioned the

last date for cancellations as well as refund i would like to remind you
it will be better if you can quote the exact date of shipment of mobile
phones for those who still waiting for the mobile

I hope you will

come up with an answer soon

Thanks

Dear sir/ madam

Everyone is free and

have right to cancel their orders with the company, all cancellations
will be accepted by 19th April, request to send one more mail to which
all had placed orders with subject cancellation- nxg-persion. And all
cancellations received by 19th will be processed on 21st with a Dropbox
link of their refund acknowledgement.

I am merely doing my part,

every coin has two sides, all are writing their own versions,I am not
going to write anything until 21st April 2013. I will write my versions
at the last, there are many learned people on list. All facts can be
seen only when we have both versions out. People are individuals here, I
represent a company and am bound by a few legal things, but on 21st I
wont have that legal bounding and then I will write about every single
mail, and dear sir each and every single mail will be replied, all may
continue writing about me the more you write the better for me.

Dear moderator sir, i have also advertised NXG on this list, people are
using this medium to seek answers, hence I hereby write, irrespective of
any earlier communication on persion id s I am requesting all those
seeking refunds and cancellations will need to write as requested, and
company is bound to do as promised.

2013-04-16 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
This shows that there are many more cases of lies by Kiran. I paid him in
cash and now he is asking me for my bank account. If the amount is credited
to my account, I have to pay income tax on the amount. Is he going to pay
for that?

Friends,

With false assurance, Mr. Kiran delivered me dual core processor phone
without any upgradation whereas he promised me of delivering quad
processor
phone. This I came to know through one of his mails where he stated
except

Mukkesh Jain, all were delivered dual core phones. Later I contacted him
and he gave several excuses including hurried and misplaced delivery.
This
happened with two other persons as well. But he assured me before and
after
the delivery of phone that I received quad processor phone. Now, I
realized
that this is a flat lie. On Friday the 12th of April, he came to my home
to
update my phone from Jellybean 4.1 to jellybean 4.2 but he could not do
it.
There was also a problem of 3g internet network in that phone. He tried
to
acces internet from my 3g card, but it was disconnecting every minute or
so.

WE removed the sim from that mobile and inserted in my c5 handset and
browsed the net without any problem.

Therefore, I returned the phone to Mr. Kiran with a request to give me an
updated quad processor phone. Through this forum I request Mr. Kiran to
either deliver me the said NXG phone on or before Frieday, 19th April, or
refund my money.

   Thanks.

Re: [Mobile.AI] endroid phone from persian technology

2013-04-15 Thread Shyam M. Sayanekar
Dear Anjali, same is the case here with me. I paid Kiran twelve thousand
rupees in cash and for the last several days he has been telling me lies.
read the mail send today by Jaya Prakash, who is also suffering for the last
37 days. You ask him to immediately return your money. I think, we should
all file a collective complaint against him. If Kiran has any morals, he
should file a defamation case against me.
