Re: [MMouse]: speaking of
yeah, i saw that. I used to like Get Up Kids, but lately I can't stand them. Their live shows don't entertain me anymore...they play the same set every show. Promise Ring, on the other hand, have become one of my favorite bands. They were really good the other night in Boston...no encore though. That was weird, but still an entertaining show. but yeahthat get up kids video made me laugh. singing an apology into the phone to a pretty girl? how emo can you get? god, 120 mins sucks. remember when this show used to play videos you couldn't see any other time of day?) (mmm, charlatans UK..) ...mer...
[MMouse]: speaking of
Speaking of the Get Up Kids, anyone just see them on 120 mins (?) and notice how simular that video was to the Promise Ring's"Very Emergancy"?

[MMouse]: UW Show
I hate to say it, but there were many points during Modest Mouse's set when I was rather disappointed. Not in the band, but in the crowd. Anyone who was up fron will know what I am talking about. There was probably about five times during MM that fights almost broke out. I don't know what it was, I think it was mostly to do with the moshing that was going on. I am all for people being in to the music, dancing ,etc. However, when people are almost brawling it just brings down the whole show. Modest Mouse is my favorite band, but I seriously felt like leaving early just so I didn't have to deal with all that aggressive male bullshit. Maybe it because this was a college show (i.e. too many jocks), because I don't remember seeing this kind of crap any other mm show. Ok, on a much happier note, 764-HERO was sooo amazing. Normally I don't like them, but live they have so much energy. AND...Jeremy has now become my new most favorite drummer. heather __ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

It always makes me realize how much I hate life when it rains. Im pretty lonely here, I called the girl who stood me up last night at like 4 30 am, totally fucked up out of my mind. [MMouse]: Re: name songs
the most devastating name song of all time, leaves me hopeless everytime - katy song, by the red house painters. it's off of their first album, and on their most recently released (though a couple of years now) album, there is a small "for katy" in the acknowledgements, which is either incredibly happy, or even more tragic. star
Re: [MMouse]: Re: Digest modestmouse.v001.n560
Well now, you have written almost exaclty what I was going to say regarding At the Drive In, but I must say that I think you have the Get Up Kids all wrong, granted that "Something to Write Home About" is very very poppy, that doesn't go throught their entire catalog. Plus since when does poppy=crap? And the fact that they have a tour bus isnt a sign of there sellout status, rather a sign of their increasing fanbase. When you play shows to 700 or 800 kids, there is a big cash flow behind that. Plus there album is selling really well. I went to the local record store, they have "Top Twenty" selling albums for the week. At that store Get Up Kids came in 3rd behind Ragevs.themachine and Foo Fighters. I think they can swing a tour bus. And finally Get Up Kids are on an indie label. If Modest Mouse comes along in a Big tour bus the next time you see them will you be screaming sellout? -- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: [MMouse]: Re: Digest modestmouse.v001.n560 >Date: Sun, Nov 21, 1999, 5:20 AM > > > In a message dated 11/20/99 10:05:34 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > > << I saw the get up kids with ultimate fakebook and at the drive in. [MMouse]: You gotta break a few eggs...
> besides, what do judge the average person on the > street by if it isn't > their looks? Well, how do you judge people that you meet randomly on the internet since you can't rely on looks for a primer? And what if you were to become attracted to an individual on the internet based entirely on their personality (whether transmitted via chat module or telephone conversation)? Yes, we judge people everyday based on their looks; and yes, there must be some level of physical chemistry between two people to maintain a healthy relationship; but who's to say that looks have to be the most prominent element when meeting new people? I've met some extremely attractive people in my life who I found completely repulsive when I heard them speak for the first time. Maybe I'm just hung up on antiquated romantic idealism, but I still believe that I will meet a nice that will fall in love with me for my mind first and everything else later. Because this youthful shell is going to whither away someday, kids, and if you're going to eventually spend the rest of yr life with someone, you better hope it's someone who you really enjoy being around. Not that you should all be looking for the long-term proposal just yet... not that I am either for that matter... but I'm old enough now that dating for the sake of dating is not my bag. I want to meet people who stimulate me, and I don't just mean the horizontal mambo. Ruxx was tossing the word soulmate around, and I really have to agree with just about everything that he posted in that regard. I thought I had met my soulmate last year - we shared the same favorite bands (Pave, SY, MM, Mogwai), we shared the same love of music, we shared a lot of things. What we didn't share were her delusional and violent episodes and her insane jealousy. I never thought I would want to see her go until she punched a hole in the bedroom wall and then cheated on me multiple times a few months later. So yeah, soulmate? A term I don't use anymore. But it's something nice to think about while under the influence. *sigh* Heaven isn't too far away, *phiL* __ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

[MMouse]: I can't email Russ!?
(list related stuff after my brief correspondence to Russ) Mr. Russ: I have tried emailing you about indie covers for your web-site (I have completed my dancy synthesized version of "Custom Concern", the Mountain Goats stuff we talked about some time ago didn't work out), but sadly all emails I send to you are promptly returned with a message that your address is not valid. I've double-triple checked the address and in a fleeting moment of bravery, even tried clicking on your address from the list only to have that returned as well. There's snow here in Warsaw, and believe it or not, that may be preventing my emails from going through (they have these old underground phone lines that when wet, seem to malfunction. That's why everyone here has cellular phones). If you could email me with your mailing address and in what format (if) you want the song, that would be keen. Thanks. [EMAIL PROTECTED] (fun list stuff begins now) While I am here (on the list) I would like to inquire to those of you in the Boston or Philadelphia area about shows happening some time between December 9th and January 13th (my return to the States) (a nice 5-week paid vacation, but a long time to be stuck with the folks) (love 'em, can't live with 'em for more than 4 days). I will be in Philly most of the time, but I am planning to be in sunny Boston from December 15th - 23rd and probably for a few days around New Year's. I have checked web-site upon web-site for shows and have not found anything of value during these dates. Since everyone here is usually on the ball with this sort of thing, I ask you for your generous help. I've been to ONE show this year: MM in Dresden (if you only see one show a year, I guess that is/was the one to see). Thank you all for your suggestions/directions/leads/plots/and revelations. Oh, and whoever recommended Mr. T Experience a few weeks back, I am indebted to you for introducing me. I can't believe I've lived 2? years without coming across any of their stuff. BYE BYE Christian (C-Daddy) ps- There's great literary taste around here. "High Fidelity" and "Fugitive Pieces" are easily two of the best books I've read this year and I second their recommendations. Those of you involved or interested in the film/documentary world should read "My Year of Meats" by Ruth Ozaki (even though it actually deals much more with other issues).

tonight i saw les savy fav at mercury lounge in nyc. i just wanted to recommend seeing them to anyone who ever has the chance. such an amazing live band. they do a whole thing with ships (a la june of 44 some would say) but at the same time they have a crazy live show (but not as crazy as arab on radar) thats ohsoentertaining. if anyone happened to go to the show the kid with the black hair and glasses that got pulled on stage was my friend bj. it was great! only bad thing: the lapse cancelled. oh and by the way, i never knew there were so many sara songs! yay! =sara=
