Re: [MMouse]: Re: bright eyes
its cause he is shivering. his (their) live performance is amazing and every second is pure emotion and heartfelt. ryan
[MMouse]: Re: bright eyes
Bright Eyes is the most fantastic songwriter of this year. It's like acoustic guitar with lots of other instruments. REally delicate lyrics and then suddenly wildly emotional surges of pure beauty... His voice is creepy as hell, it sounds like he's always shivering. I consider him a dirtier, more important version of Belle and Sebastian. Does this help? Tyler
Re: [MMouse]: mm tour tshirt
Hi all- The new shirts will be available at updirect.com tomorrow. Afternoon, I'd guess. There are two "new" shirts. Shirt A:A new shirt with a new design. blue with light blue printing. Shirt B:The "new old" shirt. this is the shirt we did for Long Drive. it's referred to as the "starburst" by our tshirt printer. some of you may have this, some may not. we also continue to have the buffalo shirt, despite claims to the otherwise by ebay salesmen.. we also have available the new modest mouse tour poster (which is on updirect.com now, ready for order.) soon, we'll have stickers... re: no credit card we're working out a way to order via check/money order through the site, but until then you can just use the site to add up your order, and write out the product names (everything on the site is in stock), and send a check to Up, Box 21328, Seattle WA 98111 include your email address for an shipment confirmation... If you have any questions, write [EMAIL PROTECTED], and they'll help you out. best regards, colin > > Two answers for you: 1. no credit card 2. Re: [MMouse]: !!!!!!!!!!!! (hockey)
i happen to be a huge fan and have been to many stars games...let me be the first to clarify that dallas/ft. worth is a city with four million plus people in it and a mega mart of technology related businesses...people here die for the stars games...you can't touch a ticket right now for less than 500 bucks. I guarantee you that those aren't ghetto ass hicks forking out that cash...being that your pathetic ass team didn't make it I see know reason to try and deflate someone else's balloonnot only that , but to see Belfour destroy Roy and every other goalie he's faced this season and last and not even be nomintaed for the best goalie in the NHL is a feel good story in itself...the Stars are such an easy team to like..their aren't any arrogant players and no big name stars stealing the spotlight...they play with more teamwork than most teams do...so before you start bashing somebody else's team because they are better than yours..why don't you realize what your saying...all we're trying to do a have an intelligent hockey conversation... -- Tour de Force, Defacto, Ayuchuco! -- chris > In a message dated 5/29/00 2:26:08 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > << Wait a sec. [MMouse]: hiphop
anyone interested in expanding their hip-hop collection, feel free to ask me about what's worth buying. for starters, the new Dre is wack, and the new Eminem isn't great either. by the way, it pisses me off that white kids get all uneasy when they play DMX or Juvenile (both unquestionably wack as well) on TRL, then sing along with glee to "I'm Slim Shady yes I'm the real shady..." And Limp Bizkit is rap, too (albiet a piss poor version of it). get the fuck over it. Public Enemy is harder and has a lot more to say than any of those rap metal bands, and Kool Keith and the Gravediggaz are 10 times funnier and more original (not to mention more graphic) than Eminem could ever be. sorry, i just really had to vent. the kids in my dorm are really fucking pissing me off. Re: [MMouse]: london
I was in London a few months ago. There are a few really good record stores near the Notting Hill Gate station. They are part of this chain calledI forget...something like the Record Exchange. There's also a men's and women's clothing thrift store that is part of this chain. They are all within a block or two of each other. I found a ton of good hard-to-find shit there. Also, on a weekend, spend an entire day at Camden Market. It's amazing. I spent three days there. i miss british boys. .mer.

[MMouse]: bright eyes/bloomington il/london/all these fucking emails
while vactioning here in europe i made a separate email address from this modest mouse list and holy shit, this is the first time ive seen it in three weeks. i have like 800 emails here. so im trying to go through them and respond to some important ones... ok, bright eyes. all you chicago area fans should come see them. theyre playing my house in two weeks - june 14th. its going to be a fun one, email me for info and directions. i dont know if theyre playing any other illinois shows on this leg of tour, so this may be your only shot (the tour page at saddle creek doesnt have an il date). i just figured id post this since they seem to be getting talked about (again). and if youre from chi town and want to come for other shows, we got engine down, planes mistaken for stars, aloha, gods reflex, and a bunch more lined up. its only 2 hours south...totally worth it for a rockin house show. bloomington il - there aint much here. one record store called deadpan alley. its on downtown normal (which is connected to bloomington). sorry if thats been talked about already, but like i said - 800 emails. london - i just got here today, anyone know of any good record stores? im over in kensington high (which seems really cool), but am looking to get out and record shop. anything else anyone would suggest here? im going to the newl opened tate modern art museum here in a day. bacons three studies is here so im fucking stoked. hopefully freud, close, schiele, androghtko will be representin as well. what to buy? i would suggest the new dj cam. i just picked it up here...awesome french hip hop that you can get in the states easily enough. but the best record ive picked up this year was the new full length by the holy childhood. i saw em at the empty bottle in early may and they completely blew me away. so fucking amazing. total blues-style indie rock and roll...awesome harmonies, one of the leo brothers wrote all the songs and sings (so you at least know the lyrics are amazing), and they even cover that sorrow song "sometimes i feel like a motherless child." seriously the best thing ive heard all year. its on gern blandsten records. hey, clownsfrightenme (ryan)- you and chispa and enfold broke down at my house last summer. 12 germans on my living room floor. im steve. the tall guy who listened to bonnie prince billy with you in my room. that night was absolutely insane. i just figured out who you were. cutter from prn, right??? awesome. i feel like a detective. i should email youwhats the deal with scott and bloodlink now? the website is down...or it was. i want that sleeping body discgraphy! you should email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] cuz i check that one. whew. [MMouse]: Origin of Modest Mouse
Taken from the interview done by Reed Jackson for the Rocket. "I attempt to ask for more information of the band's history. Brock sets aside his beer, sits up and looks me square in the eye. 'Modest Mouse was formed' he intones, 'when great Father Zeus was trimming his corns and threw his shavings towards Earth. Once there, these shavings formed a perfect creature. But a seagull, sent by the evil god Seagullis, crapped on this creature. The perfect creature began to twist on itself , hate itself, eat its own feces and make love with itself. It split into three parts. Ericosis, Jermosis and another part which withered and died. Then Isaac, the God of Goodness, came to this creature.'" "Brock rattles off a long list of Isaac the God's superhuman accomplishments, feats which encompass many of the landmarks of Western Civilization. Brock eventually stops. 'Well, I guess the story kind of broke down there. Sorry. We get bored of saying the same story over and over. How many times can you tell people you met on a public-access TV dating game?'" I've read several other interviews and this by far is the best explanation for their origin. john

[MMouse]: indie cred / what to buy
I'm sick of hearing about indie cred. Denying your indie cred must get your more indie cred or something. I guess you're not indie unless you deny being indie. Um what to buy. Must buys (in my opinion)... Bright Eyes "Every day and every night"- I know people have already suggested this one but I think it is absolutely the best album of 1999. The songwriting is amazing... Sparklehorse "Good morning spider"- I just bought this last Thursday. I know it's a little old but it is an amazing album. Wilco "Summerteeth"- My alternate best of 1999. Dirty Three "Whatever you love, you are"- Track three, "I Offered It up to the Stars & The Night..." is without a doubt their most amazing piece of work to date. Kevin Drumm "Comedy"- Minimalism. Low "The curtain hits the cast"- Low is a grat band. Very simple. The perfect answer to loud rock bands. Spoon "Telephono"- Dunno what to say. Very good rock and roll. Aloha "That's your fire"- I love these guys. They're from Cleveland like me and I think they're fantastic. Tyler
[MMouse]: Re: possum dixon
don't pass the third album, though. while it's not nearly as great as the first two, it has "only in the summertime," a piece of unmatched pure pop heaven. and heavenly is really, really good too. i actually came across an ep of theirs called "sunshine and noir" that's really good (between the first two albums, i think, with a couple of new songs, and different versions of a few star maps songs) and a double 7" of live stuff. i think they're both a bit difficult to find, but worth the hunt. sad that they're gone, star > POSSUM DIXON!
