Re: [MMouse]: EXCITING PLACES

and living in uptown i have found it to be one of the most vegan friendly
places i have ever been to. more than i ever would have imagined.
 michael

you forgot to mention renters rebate. i'm getting $509 back for being a
renterpretty cool !

yeah rent is pretty average up there. i think our rent was $500/month for
a two bedroom and my mom was the caretaker. the kinda crappy thing tho was
that we lived on the crosstown which isn't the safest neighborhood in
minneapolis but it was one of the nicer apartments near bosson terrace so
oh well!
i'm not surprised it's vegan-friendly. my mom's friends were really
ecclectic people and some of them were vegans..my mom worked at this big
book warehouse place and her and her ecclectic friends would all go to this
vegan restaurant right down the street :P pretty nice..

in response to this thingie:
Right. For one, you're mostly talking about St. Paul. I don't mean to be
picky, but Minneapolis and St. Paul have completely different
atmospheres.

you're right. st. paul has always seemed more aged than minneapolis,
cozier, and certainly more industrial...still tho, they're twin cities and
you know everyone from minneapolis goes to the state fair and winter
festivals and what not so let's not be TOO picky ;)

For two, they don't build the ice castle every year. In
fact, they haven't come close to building a huge one in years.

SINCE WHEN? i don't ever recall a time during the winter when it wasn't
upbut my imagination is fuzzy and i haven't lived there in three and a
half years.

 And I
really don't want everyone to think that all Minnesotans sit around and
look at ice all winter.

they don't? i feel like an ass. that's all i ever did.

I would completely disagree about the State Fair
too. It's disgusting and there are so many better things you could be
doing on one of our ten thousand lakes or at a great concert.

i lived in a central location near most of the lakes in minneapolis..or at
least close enough so that i'd rather spend one day of the year at the
state fair, ya know? i mean it's hot, it's disgusting, but it's fun and i
love that kinda stuff. concerts are nice and all but you can always go to
a concert throughout the year. i'm sorta old fashioned, sorry.

- amy, who thinks if you lived away from such a wonderful place for so long
you'd be over exaggerating its wonderfulness too ;) (please note i may feel
this way because i moved from a metropolitan area to a population of 3600
people. heh.)

being a fellow new englander i love maine
and i know what youre talking about when you mention the backwoods
rednecks that arent really as bad as redneck rednecks. my small town in
new hamsphire is just like that. lots of inbreeding and whatnot but no
one is really downright violent or activist redneck. i like maine. its a
nice place to be. very scenic. plus they have fun park in saco.
and a newbury comics in portland.

yeah there's a portland, maine. portland oregon is a metropolitan area as
you know i'm sure (i don't wanna sound condescending, sorry, i'm not trying
to be :P) and i think portland, maine is moderately large as well...but not
quite metropolitan size. they're both kinda water cities tho so it doesn't
surprise me. i dunno if either are really close to the shores or anything
but...they're in water states anyway ;)

yes minneapolis is splendid! i've always mentioned this whenever someone
starts a thread about itbut now i can give some reasons why.
during the winter - during the winter there's all this fun stuff to do.
there has never been a christmas like a minnesota christmas. us fine
scandanavian folks enjoy the ice castle which iswell...pretty fucking
huge and costs millions of dollars to build each year. they put these
beautiful pastel lights up against the ice and it gleams with a
rainbowesque glow. i used to stand in the large crowd in awe at it wishing
i could go inside and pretending what it'd be like. i'm such a dreamer :P
we also have these ice sculpture contests near the capital (ok this stuff
is in st. paul technically but it's all the same ;)) where these sculpture
artists work on different figures and i think they're the only people in
all of minneapolis who hope that it doesn't get warm. we also have these
sweet sled type things where you can go down this really steep hill thing
on a slide thingie and oh it's just fun and not quite the same as sledding
in a park. i can't explain it but if you saw it you'd see why. we also
have red and black vulcans who come up and kiss you at random. we're also
home to the most awesome christmas parade ever which basically runs down
where nicolet mall is. i love nicolet mall. i swear we're home of the
most skyways in the world but i'm probably bullshitting then ;) we do have
lots of skyways tho. OH AND DAYTONS! they turned the top floor of the old
daytons into this neat thing where at christmas time you can see all these
neat light shows and stuff..you walk through them.
late summer - two words: STATE FAIR :P we were one of the first state
fairs that sampled off "dots," the little bubble ice cream things. we also
have that huge slide that you can go down and the butter statues that you
can view from the dairy building.
point being: if you wanna go to an awesome college and an awesome
city..MINNEAPOLIS IS FOR YOU :P
