Re: Southpacific "Constance" Yes, that is a great record. I got it back in December and played it two weeks straight. It's different than Tristeza, though. Tristeza is a lot more jangly and melodic. Southpacific uses drone guitar stuff with bits of melody coupled with a bouncy rhythm section. Really cool. Turnbuckle has some other good stuff out, too. If you're into Tristeza, though, you might want to check out The Six Parts Seven from Kent, Ohio. They have a record out on Donut Friends Records which is run by the drummer from Harriet the Spy. The Six Parts Seven are more like Tristeza than Southpacific is. There is at least one MP3 track of The Six Parts Seven on Epitonic (www.epitonic.com), so you should check that out. One record that I'm really looking forward, too is the new Aloha record. In my mind they're the only decent thing on Polyvinyl. Aloha plays a lot here in Cleveland. They're opening for Tristeza this Sunday which should be an awesome show. It's cool jazzy, Tortiose/Tristeza-like instrumentation with a bit of emo-ish vocals. They use vibraphones, keyboards, other stuff. Kind of prog-rock styled stuff. Certainly the best thing in Cleveland. Their record comes out in May, but I heard they have 100 of them now. If you ask real nice they might give you one. (www.insomniaville.com/aloha) Tyler
Re: [MMouse]: records to watch for/travis
<< << travis- "the man who" >> is this the same guy that does that oh so funny britney spears cover of "hit me baby one more time?" >> Travis isn't one guy, it's a band, but yeah they do the cover. They played it yesterday (at the Newbury Comics in-store). Pretty fucking good. .mer.

<< travis- "the man who"- I don't know if we've had this discussion here before but this is one of the best things to come out of britain since mick jagger stopped doing coke. yeah its simple, yeah its got some cheesyness to it, but isn't that why we all like modest mouse??? >> I picked this album up when I was in London a couple months ago. So good. It is incredibly cheesy, but I dig it. I saw them play an in-store yesterday, and it was awesome...the best in-store I have ever seen. They have a great presence and truly enjoy what they do. .mer. go flyers.please.
[MMouse]: records to watch for
so yeah, I got steve's back. Camden-"reel time canvas"- Normally i'd spend ten minutes trying to think of a comparison band, but I don't need to here. Buy this record. If you don't like it after you buy it, curse me and sell it back. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. And if you must have comparisons to buy a record, think Jeff Buckley if had been born in the late 70's and never heard of leonard cohen. This guy's voice is that good. The mendoza line- "we're all in this alone" Aside from having one of the best album titles in recent memory, this record is fucking great. Male/female vocals, but rarely at the same time. If you like bright eyes you'll like this better. travis- "the man who"- I don't know if we've had this discussion here before but this is one of the best things to come out of britain since mick jagger stopped doing coke. yeah its simple, yeah its got some cheesyness to it, but isn't that why we all like modest mouse??? South Pacific- "constance"- instrumental stuff, not like any of the mass produced stuff that is the rage now...i dare to say i like it as much as tristeza, although steve will probably hit me the next time he sees me for that if you buy one of these and you don't like it, send me hate mail, I'm not afraid to look the dead in the face. blacker, whiter, gracer zach __ Do You Yahoo!?
