I just received this in response to my phone call...he asked me to forward it (I have
removed the html formatting which causes spacing issues) so have fun - here is a solid
laugh to start your weekend.
Note the subject line was: "Please tell me what to do..."
GV
PS: I responded privately to explain that no one has threatened him, but that lots of
people were angry.

>Dear Sir,
>
> It has recently been brought to my attention that the community of which you are
>a part in is planning a malicious attack on me and my employer's domain over what I
>would consider something that is far beyond my control. I joined the mailing list to
>which you are subscribed ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) in hopes to find some help with an
>issue I had several months ago. My questions to the mailing list went unanswered,
>leading me to "un-subscribe" myself from the list per the instructions found at
>http://perl.apache.org./maillist/modperl.html . As the site directed, I clicked the
>"mailto" link and politely asked to be removed from the list... the emails kept
>coming. By this time, I had setup a rule to delete all emails originating from the
>modperl mailing list as numerous emails, although very informative, were simply too
>much for me to sort through anymore, hence I never received the "explicit and even
>polite" instructions your colleagues allegedly sent me on removing my name from the
>list. I hope you can understand that I'm not juvenile enough to set up an auto
>responder as I have apparently been accused. Whatever may be causing this strange
>error is, as I previously stated, beyond my control. I spoke directly to the
>administrator of our firewall and email server, and he confirmed, as I had already
>suspected, that nothing in the configuration of either device would cause my single
>email to be regenerated indefinitely and spawned to every member of the mailing list.
> If you have any insight on what action(s) need to be taken on my part to remedy this
>issue, beyond sending an email to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (no
>sense in making a bad thing even worse), please let me know. Although I cannot take
>responsibility for what has happened, I do apologize to you and all members of your
>community for the inconvenience this has caused, and ask that you could relay this
>message to the rest of the members. In closing, I applaud you and your colleagues in
>providing help to those in need and hope that this incident doesn't lead others to
>ignore such requests.

>Thank You,
