I shared my mescaline experience at a Cinerama showing of 2001
earlier on MOPO, so I won't bore you again with THAT. I saw a
double bill of "Bonnie and Clyde" and "I Never Sang for My Father"
after eating an enormous amount of hashish, and I'm still in
therapy. The former shocked me horribly and the latter depressed me
into a coma. The most fun I ever had seeing a movie in an "altered
state" was watching"Monty Python and the Meaning of Life" after
getting stinking drunk on a night off in New York city. I was very,
very loud in my appreciation for the film, especially during Mr.
Creosote's visit to the restaurant. People around me left in droves.
Bruce...I stopped willingly doing acid in 1969. Too many questions,
not enough answers. Not my cup of tea. I was, however, dosed by
Owsley, the "Acid King", in 1975 just before a huge concert in San
Francisco. Jerk.

Re: [MOPO] OT: guy trips on acid at Egyptian Theater 2001: A Space Odyssey

2010-09-13 Thread Richard Halegua Comic Art
when I was 16, 2001 was shown at the NY Comicon at midnight on the
second night of the convention

myself and several friends all dropped acid and watched the film

during the final minutes when the space pod was flying through the
colorful galaxy, I'm sure if you looked at us, we probably had our
eyes open all the way with our mouths open and sitting far back in
our seats as if a hurricane wind was blowing at us.

definitely "an experience"

thats absurd enough but he even mentiaoned a town.. Norwalk...

haha nobody ever goes there so then... I dreamed a horrific thing

that he was on a stage playing in the cold a rain kinda like keith

cold and dreay... and in my dream, he also had these like rockers from
AC/dc and huey lewis... whats the odds of that

I think they are all retired in the old rockers rock home by now..

why would they play with him and go to Norwalk OHIO anyway??? for the
warm weather..." what a Joke... maybe applefest?

whats funny is I actually thought it sounded good and that he could
play guitar Like a Rock star...well as I was dreaming in my altered

But on a cold wet stage in Norwalk OHIO>>>?? why would I think up some
crazy mix like this Luckily this could never happen in real

But was that a twisted dream or what??? all we needed extra was Pee
wee herman to come prancing Out and do a Queen song "we are the
champions of the world" and it would have been complete...

anyways... I think Ill be Ok now since it was all my imagination..

Greg has been in nice warm Californy with Arnold who loves to

[MOPO] LITTLE FAUSS + BIG HALSY UPDATE

2010-09-13 Thread Rixposterz
Hi, Everyone,

I just went to my office and pulled the poster---it's actually a 1974
reissue, not a 1974. That makes perfect sense. The studio wanted to cash in
on the success of The Sting. In the bottom left border below R74/313,
is printed ROBERT REDFORD AS "BIG HALSY"---All this makes perfect sense.
What DOESN'T make sense, though, is apparently how FEW of these things
there are out there. Strange, though, now that I look at the top of the
poster
I notice is written:
 ROBERT REDFORD
THE MOST EXCITING STAR IN MOVIES TODAY
In The Motion Picture That Everyone's Discovering
From The Producer of "The Godfather" and the director of "Lady Sings The
Blues"

I'm sure it was the success of The Sting that did it, though. Funny, in
looking at the portrait of Redford, shirtless with a bandana tied around his
neck---looking VERY LITTLE like Redfordmore like the hot blond star
of a 70's porno flick. Who knows...maybe Redford didn't like it and asked
for the posters to be pulled...

Re: [MOPO] LITTLE FAUSS + BIG HALSY Question-- WHEN ARE RE-ISSUES SCARCER THAN ORIGINALS ?

2010-09-13 Thread Kirby McDaniel
That is often the case, especially with older films. There are more original
CASABLANCA one sheets around, for example, than one sheets for the 1949 Warners
reissue. Films like THE WIZARD OF OZ, where the film was rereleased again and
again are different. But look at THIS GUN FOR HIRE. There is a good reissue
from 1946, I think. Rarer than the original. EASY RIDER -- the 72 reissue is
much rarer and better!

2010-09-13 Thread Phil Edwards
There's a video one sheet for SUSPIRIA that most Argento fans would rather have
than the POS US one sheet art.
I suppose a video one sheet sort of qualifies for a RR.

The RR poster of McQueen jumping the bike in THE GREAT ESCAPE seems more highly
sought than the original art.

North By Northwest 1966 paper seemed to be much rarer (and more
desirable) than the original 1959 material for several years, although I think
that this trend has now softened or even reversed.

  Hi, all,

This is kind of a strange question because I know material on this
title isn't very sought after and doesn't command much attention at all. Just
wanted to check if anyone has seen a 1973 reissue US Little Fauss + Big Halsy
one sheet---full-color (unlike the 1970 original) showing a shirtless, very
young-looking Robert Redford standing next to his Yamaha motorcycle---a
full-length portrait. In all my years of collecting and dealing in movie
posters, I've never come across it. Guess that's a good topic: In what
instance is a RE-ISSUE one sheet on a title harder to find that an ORIGINAL one
sheet. (Sure, you could say The Hustler, but I don't think that's true---eBay
has been more inundated with 1964 re-issues than the original one sheet
lately). I'm sure there are A LOT of instances where this is true.
What are they?

  Rick

Re: [MOPO] LITTLE FAUSS + BIG HALSY Question-- WHEN ARE RE-ISSUES SCARCER THAN ORIGINALS ?

2010-09-13 Thread Neil Jaworski
North By Northwest 1966 paper seemed to be much rarer (and more desirable) than
the original 1959 material for several years, although I think that this trend
has now softened or even reversed.

Hi, all,

This is kind of a strange question because I know material on this
title isn't very sought after and doesn't command much attention at all.
Just wanted to check if anyone has seen a 1973 reissue US Little Fauss + Big
Halsy one sheet---full-color (unlike the 1970 original) showing a shirtless,
very young-looking Robert Redford standing next to his Yamaha motorcycle---a
full-length portrait.  In all my years of collecting and dealing in movie
posters, I've never come across it.  Guess that's a good topic:  In
what instance is a RE-ISSUE one sheet on a title harder to find that an
ORIGINAL
one sheet.  (Sure, you could say The Hustler, but I don't think that's
true---eBay has been more inundated with 1964 re-issues than the original one
sheet
lately). I'm sure there are A LOT of instances where this is true.
What are they?
