Re: [MOPO] Stolen Posters

2011-12-19 Thread Brek Anderson
I had an insurance claim where they said I was under insured. They only paid me
25% of replacement value. When the items were recovered a couple of months
after they paid me they said they were their items unless I paid them back. I
told them that was fine, but since I didn't have the money any more pay me 75%
of what you get since you only paid 25%. They said oh s.t just keep the
items and the money. On top of that one item was damaged by the thief to the
tune of $3000. The court ordered restitution and for 2 years I got about $150 a
month from the state pen. Make sure they paid you full value or you might be
entitled to some of the sale proceeds.

MOPO,

I wanted to repost this as I don't know how many people noticed it in the LAMP
newsletter. Rob from Four Color Comics had 14 One Sheet posters stolen from
him. None of the posters were linen backed and all were in very good shape.
Robert doesn't think the theives know much about posters so some of you dealers
out there might get contacted about these posters. If anyone gets contacted
about any of the titles below or if they 'Walk' into your store, they can be
identified through the High Resolution Images on my website, www.mpgrading.com
or if you run a high frequency UV light over the bottom right corner, the
invisible DNA ink # will be illuminated.

Incidently, the Police loved that these posters can be identified and
distinguished from other posters of the same title, as well as the Insurance
Company, which will be giving Robert the insured amounts back to him.

We animal lovers and workers and activists are always preaching
spay/neuter, which of course we should. Many have tried to get laws
passed in their cities, counties and states but have failed. An animal

law. If such a thing could happen, it would be miraculous. But
if we don't try, we'll never know.

Please go to following website and add your name to a petition to the

While the circumstances of this theft are awful, it is a very compelling
reason to get things graded.

Also, there are more Haggard fakes out there. I think they may surface for
years to come. There is one on E Bay right now.

Both of these are compelling reasons to have our lobbies and posters
authenticated. Todd, I will personally be sending you more of my items. And,
in fact really appreciate the things you have already authenticated.

[MOPO] Did you know that we recently added a "top 800 results by decade (in which the movie was made)" to our website?

2011-12-19 Thread Bruce Hershenson
*Did you know that we recently added a "top 800 results by decade (in which
the movie was made)" to our website?
*Some people mostly think of us as the auction that auctions lots and
lots of affordable movie paper (this year alone, we will auction over
50,000 items for between $1 and $14, and our leading competitor has never
auctioned even a single item for less than $15, thanks to their outrageous
$14 minimum buyer's premium.
But we *ALSO* auction lots and lots of high dollar items, ones that
range from the high hundreds to many thousands, and we auction them year in
and year out! Our Auction History now has a new section that allows you to
view the top 800 results from each decade (in which the movie was made) in
a completely "sort-able" and searchable gallery format. Plus on the * main
Top 800 by decade page *, you
can see the top 5 items from each decade at a glance, and it covers every
single decade of posters from which we've auctioned paper (starting with
the 1870s and continuing to the 2010s!), and each year on the page is a
link that will take you to its completely searchable and "sort-able"
gallery containing the highest priced 800 items for that decade.

Here is the main Top 800 by decade page: *
http://www.emovieposter.com/sales/decades.php*
And here are our current top 800 results from the 1970s (to pick a sample
decade): *
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/sort/4/decade/197/archive.html
*

Look at all the many expensive items we have auctioned (often for top
prices, and most often far higher than the results of our competitors, when
you compare "apples to apples and oranges to oranges"!) and you will
realize that not only are we *THE* auction to turn to when you have
*LOTS*of items to auction, but we are also THE auction to turn to when
you have
* EXPENSIVE* single items to auction!

On our Website, if you look under the heading 'Grading' then there is a drop down menue with the word 'Certificate' under it. You can read about it and see how the number is illuminated with a UV light.

And, in fact really appreciate the things you have already authenticated.

Hi, Franc,

Not certain this is accurate, but I was told by an employee at the Post

an addition to the costly amount already when shipping items
overseas

Recently there was a lot of back and forth on this board in connection

For the record, here's what PayPal indicates are its guidelines:

" Protection for items not received

item was delivered, you're protected against claims for items not

received. For complete requirements, see terms.

Protection for unauthorized payments

When you ship to the address on this page and provide proof that the

item was shipped, you're protected against claims for unauthorized

payments. For complete requirement, see terms. "

In other words, merely providing proof of shipment is not enough to

claim Seller Protection for items not received. You must provide proof

of delivery. About a week ago, after the flurry of e-mails on this

board, I tried out Stamps.com and shipped my first package by

International Air Mail. So far my tracking record on Stamps.com

indicates that I've provided Electronic Shipping information. This is NO

indication in the Tracking History that the package was shipped by USPS.

I'm going to track this package closely to see if delivery confirmation

is ever provided and will report back.

To repeat myself a little...

The Oklahoma Historical Society is putting
together a new exhibit called "Oklahoma at the
Movies" celebrating all aspects of Oklahoma's
relationship with the film industry, including
famous Oklahomans who made good in Hollywood and
the image of Oklahoma on the screen. We plan to
use some posters/poster images in our display.

For many of the titles, originals are out of our
budget, so for those, we're looking for images of
high-enough res that we could reproduce them at
least 60% (if not 100%) of their original size
for half-sheets or larger, and 100% of original size for the smaller posters.

If you have the actual poster but not a high-res
image, and you'd be willing to lend us the poster
so we could make a high-res scan of it, that
would be great too. The museum has a HUGE
flatbed scanner and would pay the shipping both ways.

I know Bruce has a selection of these. And some
of the large lobby card images on the Heritage site might work. Anyone else?

Some of the biggest titles we're looking for in image form include:

   CIMARRON (1931)
   THE GRAPES OF WRATH
   RED RIVER
   THE OKLAHOMA KID
   BOOM TOWN
   AMBASSADOR BILL

Post Office that it costs $11.50 extra for a
tracking number for a package sent internationally from the
U.S. Quite an addition to the costly amount already when shipping
items overseas

For the record, here's what PayPal indicates are its guidelines:

Protection for unauthorized payments

In other words, merely providing proof of shipment is not enough to
claim Seller Protection for items not received. You must provide proof
of delivery. About a week ago, after the flurry of e-mails on this
board, I tried out Stamps.com and shipped my first package by
International Air Mail. So far my tracking record on Stamps.com
indicates that I've provided Electronic Shipping information. This is NO
indication in the Tracking History that the package was shipped by USPS.
I'm going to track this package closely to see if delivery confirmation
is ever provided and will report back.

Again...

The Oklahoma Historical Society is putting together a new exhibit
called "Oklahoma at the Movies" celebrating all aspects of Oklahoma's
relationship with the film industry, including famous Oklahomans who
made good in Hollywood and the image of Oklahoma on the screen.

We plan to use a lot of posters/poster images in our displays, but
sometimes the posters we've seen for certain films don't really
represent what we need them to.

Thus we have a third category...

Help! (not sure what there is available for these; stills are okay):

RAIN MAN (showing the Buick, preferably with the stars in/near it)
STALAG 17 (showing Richard Erdman)
THE GAY DIVORCEE (showing Erik Rhodes "Bedini")
THE SHOOTIST (showing Ron Howard with Wayne)
THE NOTEBOOK (showing James Garner)
ELMER GANTRY (showing Patti Page)
THE MUSIC MAN (showing Ronnie Howard)
CHARLIE CHAN IN PARIS (showing Erik Rhodes)
HAIR (showing the non-hippie soldier John Savage)
THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD (showing Van Heflin)

Please let me know if you can help, and remember we're a non-proft
and need your LOWEST possible prices.

[MOPO] poster IMAGES/LOANS for Oklahoma@Movies exhibit

2011-12-19 Thread Reel Classics Posters

  DOWN TO EARTH
  THE ROPIN' FOOL
  THEY HAD TO SEE PARIS
  SO THIS IS LONDON
  TUMBLEWEEDS (1925)
  SHANE
  HIGH NOON
  BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S
  OF MICE AND MEN
  THE WOLF MAN
  THE MUMMY'S CURSE
  THE MUMMY'S GHOST
  THE MUMMY'S TOMB
  THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN
  HOUSE OF DRACULA
  SON OF DRACULA
THIS GUN FOR HIRE (showing Alan Ladd)
THE BLUE DAHLIA (showing Alan Ladd)
THE GLASS KEY (showing Alan Ladd)
  SON OF OKLAHOMA
  MAN FROM OKLAHOMA
  MR SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
  MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN
  HIS GIRL FRIDAY
  LOST HORIZON
YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU
  IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT
  THE AWFUL TRUTH
  KING KONG
  MODERN TIMES
  WAGON MASTER (showing Ben Johnson)
SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON (showing Ben Johnson)
  RIO GRANDE (showing Ben Johnson)
ALL THE YOUNG MEN (showing Alan Ladd)
  HARVEY (showing Peggy Dow)
FIFTH AVENUE GIRL (showing Tim Holt)
THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS (showing Tim Holt)
  WAGON TRAIN (showing Tim Holt)
THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE (showing Tim Holt)
KING OF THE UNDERWORLD (showing Kay Francis)
TROUBLE IN PARADISE (showing Kay Francis)
ONE WAY PASSAGE (showing Kay Francis)
THE WHITE ANGEL (showing Kay Francis)
MARY STEVENS MD (showing Kay Francis)
THE GREAT DICTATOR (showing Jack Oakie as Mussolini)
ALICE IN WONDERLAND (1933) (showing Jack Oakie as Tweedledum)
CALL OF THE WILD (showing Jack Oakie)
TOAST OF NEW YORK (showing Jack Oakie)
IF I HAD A MILLION (showing Jack Oakie)
MADAME BOVARY (showing Jennifer Jones and Van Heflin)

Hi MOPO,

I have to agree with the "bogus" (Always different) information that is
forthcoming from the Post Office "various" clerks.

But..would like to pass this on for info, however, check it out for
yourself; please do no take my word for it...I recently had a shipment
to Germany and received a dispute from the buyer that he had not received
it. For whatever reason I called Paypal and guess what.Paypal sent me
to a department that assisted me for the next few days..More
important. THEY TRACKED THE SHIPMENT TO THE ADDRESS IT WAS GOING BY USING
THE "CUSTOMS LABLE" I had no idea that there was even a remote chance that
customs would do this. They Did! and of course I got my money!

Againbetter check this all out for yourself, but...it was
certainly news to me. Perhaps some of you out there already knew this, but
for you that have difficulties.Check it out!

Anyway, on to more important things, Happy Holidays to all you guys and

Hi, Franc,

Not certain this is accurate, but I was told by an employee at the Post

In other words, merely providing proof of shipment is not enough to
claim Seller Protection for items not received. You must provide proof
of delivery. About a week ago, after the flurry of e-mails on this
board, I tried out Stamps.com and shipped my first package by
International Air Mail. So far my tracking record on Stamps.com
indicates that I've provided Electronic Shipping information. This is NO
indication in the Tracking History that the package was shipped by USPS.
I'm going to track this package closely to see if delivery confirmation
is ever provided and will report back.

They were designed in Hollywood and printed in Mexico.

Each Poster contains the same design elements found on
Posters from the US.

They contain both stills from the Film and also design
elements from the One Sheet Poster.

The typography, photos, artwork, stars names, credits,
drawings, scenes, emotional impact,

appeal, and intrinsic value are
virtually the same as Posters from Hollywood
or any other

international Metropolis where the film had been shown.

However, the layout will be much flashier, more graphically
intensive, or even more lurid.

The size is appx. 13" x 17"---over 40% larger than
a standard Lobby Card.

As such, each Poster is a cross between a Jumbo Lobby Card,
Title Card, and a One Sheet Poster.

The Posters were printed on either heavy Cardboard Stock,
thick fine Linen Paper, or

sturdy Poster Stock.

Overall very good condition, altho there will be occasional
tears, pinholes, stains, etc.

There are eight different variations for each
poster---containing different stills from the film.

Some dupes.

Isn't it interesting that postal clerk all seem to have a tenuous grasp
of postal regulations and fees? I can't tell you how many timesI've
gotten totally conflicting information about the same issue from postal
employees including their phone customer support personnel. FRANC

Hi, Franc,

Not certain this is accurate, but I was told by an employee at the Post
Office that it costs $11.50 extra for a
tracking number for a package sent internationally from the U.S. Quite
an addition to the costly amount already when shipping items
overseas

Recently there was a lot of back and forth on this board in connection
with PayPal Seller Protection in connection with International Sales.
For the record, here's what PayPal indicates are its guidelines:

" Protection for items not received

When you ship to the address on this page and provide proof that the
item was delivered, you're protected against claims for items not
