There's a nice Czech poster with art that closely follows Albin Grau's German
campaign, in the Museum Decorative Arts, Prague and illustrated in Tony
Nourmand's horror book.

The reason for so many of these discoveries in international archives
is fairly simple: they were shipped to foreign countries for theatrical
release with the understanding that they would be destroyed afterwards,
since return shipping wasn’t considered worth the trouble and expense. But
they often went to private collectors or film archives instead

Yeah, I highly recommend it: ‘Too Much Horror Business’ by Kirk Hammett, there
are also nice stories e.g. how he tracked down that only known MUMMY style B

Thinking about these lost/found films, I wondered what are the MAJOR films
where no POSTERS are known to exist?

I thought that Hitchcock's THE LODGER (1927) had no known posters, but there
seems to be at least one French poster:

Incidentally, I think that actor Emil Jannings must be the single, unluckiest
victim of Lost Films.  Not only is his starring role in THE PATRIOT (1928)
lost, but his Oscar winning performance in THE WAY OF ALL FLESH from the
previous year is also gone (although apparently he only won Best Actor when the
Academy decided that they couldn't award it to the technical winner: Rin Tin

The reason for so many of these discoveries in international archives is
fairly simple: they were shipped to foreign countries for theatrical release
with the understanding that they would be destroyed afterwards, since return
shipping wasn’t considered worth the trouble and expense. But they often went
to private collectors or film archives instead

[MOPO] English Front of House Cards question

2013-09-20 Thread JOHN REID Vintage Movie Memorabilia
Hi to you all
I have quite a lot of English Front of House cards mainly from Htichcock and
Tarzan films. Some are full colour but many others are black and white. I'm
just curious as to whether the black and white cards were the only ones printed
for titles like Psycho, Wrong Man, Strangers on a Train and some others or
whether full colour cards would also have been printed.
Regards
John

In my experience, I know there were both color and b/w FOH sets on Planet of

MoPoer can provide.)

B/w sets always seemed to be much harder to find, not sure why.)

2013-09-20 Thread JOHN REID Vintage Movie Memorabilia
Thanks Ron
The sets I have are mainly 40s and 50s. They older they are the thinner the
paper seems to be. I would be particularly interested if anyone has seen colour
FOH cards for Psycho. I kind of doubt that they would exist because the black
and white set seems to be in keeping with the way the movie was made.

[MOPO] FA: 356 bulk lots containing 10,534 items in all end this Sunday, most at prices well below wholesale

2013-09-20 Thread Bruce Hershenson
Our huge selection of *356 bulk lots containing 10,534 items in all *end
this * SUNDAY http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html*
afternoon, September
22nd beginning at 3 PM CST (*NOT* 7 PM CST like our Tuesday and
Thursdayauctions).

I just looked over these *356 bulk lots containing 10,534 items in all*,
and with just a day and a half to go, many of the prices on these are
really hard to believe! As of this writing, the items include 51 items with
no bids (14%), 167 items at $1 or with no bids (47%), 173 items at $2 or
less (49%), 178 items at $3 or less (50%), 189 items at $4 or less (53%),
and 198 items at $5 or less (56%)!

*THIS IS LIKE BUYING AT WHOLESALE PRICES* (in many cases
*BELOW*wholesale)! You can take these items to your local collectible
show, flea
market, yard sale or whatever, and make a bundle selling these one at a
time, because you can price them at well under the cost of repros and still
make a healthy profit! Or you can keep some of the items and recoup all the
money you spent by selling the rest. Or you can keep everything and have an
insta-collection. The possibilities are endless!

Of course, once you get *OVER* just $5, you start hitting lots and lots of
better titles, but an awful lot of those are currently at
*VERY*reasonable prices, far under what some of them have sold for in
the past
(the ones we can find any record of selling in the past!) including (the
below are links to the actual auctions):
