I have mostly been lurking on the Mopo site. I would like to share my
collecting interests with the other members but have not been very successful
in posting photos to the web. The problem is that if you talk about a
favorite poster for example Florentine Dagger one sheet which is still a
favorite of mine after owning it for 25 years, very few people have seen it
and so it is not likely to stimulate much interest or discussion. Allmovie
posters has a thread where you can share your collection but they are heavily
into post 1960 posters of monsters/scantily clad women and I am interested in
20s, 30s, and 40s crime, detective, mystery and film noir genres.

I do attend Cinefest, Cinevent and Cinecon and bring an album of my posters
with me to share with the collectors and dealers there. I find being able to
discuss the art work, not the value of the posters, and to comment back and
forth about them takes away some of the negative aspects such as the tendency
for things to turn into a bragging match. In addition I am genuinely
interested in what the other guy collects and am always eager to see what he
 has in his collection.

I remain limited in ability to post photos to sites and has limited what I
can share. I have never had any training on the computer except for specific
programs that were used at work, so everything I can do I pretty much learned
myself. I am not any good at reading the manuals to figure out how to do
something and I also find that just being told do this and then hit that key
just doesn't work for me. Unfortunately when it comes to computers I just
have to be shown in person how to do something. The library has free classes
but they only cover things like email for people who have never used a
computer. Maybe others can share their collecting interests on Mopo, it would
 certainly stimulate more discussion.

Cary

The best thing about lurking in MoPo is once you filter out the incessant ads
and self congratulatory posts you can still gets you lots of info from it, so
stay a lurker - or at the least a part-time lurker. But like many I would also
enjoy seeing your collection, s

I would also recommend:

1.Join Photobucket - it's a free service for hosting images. If you can
attach find a file on your computer you can add images to Photobucket.
Photobucket also gives you the ability to easily post any images you have
almost anywhere on the internet with 2 clicks (yes that simple).
2.Join for free here: https://secure.photobucket.com/register
3.Join AllPosterForum (http://www.allposterforum.com/) - it has a wide and
active membership, best of all some people don't argue!
4.Re Point #3 (above), please add the word 'much' to the end of that
sentence and before the exclamation mark, thanks... Just remember like most
social gatherings, and as I have said before Trying to understand the
behaviour of some people is like trying to smell the colour 9.
5.Once 'inside' there are lots of 'threads' you can join/keep a watch on
and add comments and images too - despite the fact I am one who enjoys the
beautiful women movie posters ('40s-'60s - not so much the horror ones) there
is something for everyone in there:
http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/board,57.0.html
5.You can even start your own thread about your own collection and share
your images and thoughts on it here:
http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/board,4.0.html I can assure you, your
posts and collection will be well appreciated by the majority
6.Do join send an email to apfholi...@gmail.com he will add you as a member
and then it is relatively simple from there on.

However, if that seems too much then I am more than happy to step you through
anything technical, I have a few clues on these things and because I am not a
geek by trade (and a little older than many of those geeks too) I can talk in a
language that you will understand, I will type slowly too so you don't get left
behind, most importantly what I don't know I will completely make it up as I go
along and with such skill and professionalism you will be none the wiser... All
that said, I am more than happy to help out where/if I can and if asked...no
strings, well maybe buy me a beer or a glass of NZ Sauvignon Blanc next time
you're passing - I am in Sydney, suggest you don't drive.

regards

Rich,

since you're asking: Over that one week I counted 19 posts from Bruce, 13 from
you, followed by 6 from Heritage. The rest split up between roughly a dozen
other sellers, most of them with one or two posts.

Helmut

it was busy week for me as my auctions were ending, but Bruce will be pretty
static.. how many posts was he?

At 03:29 AM 2/24/2014, you wrote:
Just for the 'fun' of it, I did a brief analysis of the Mopo posts over the

Total number of Auction and For Sale related announcements: 62 Posts (84%)

 Want-to-buy requests from dealers: 3 Posts (4%)

All other messages: 9 Posts (12%)

Of course, this was only one week, but my guess is, if you do this any other
week, the result will be pretty much the same.

Why don't either one of you two pop over and post something there? Pretty

[MOPO] Thanks for the past and the future!

2014-02-25 Thread Alan Adler
Dear Mopo -

Thanks for being there!
You guys have helped me stay alive a number of times!

19 is a very nice young age to be.
Full of life and future.
What would a Mopo post be like when you've grown, like me, to the ripe old age
65?

WTB: Every single poster ever made for plug-in to my new cerebral cortex input
jack I just got for Albert Kallismas!

or

FOR SALE: Virtual Poster Show Sale - Transport to my cubicle 100 feet below
radiated California to see and touch actual paper with ink on it - rare since
Ebay XXVII banned all tree products from auction.

Anybody else out there see 50 years in the future?

Congratulations Scott and, as ever, keep up the good work.  I haven't really

Bidding has picked up on the highest priced items, but there are still

third of the posters at $5 or under with minutes to go! And there are lots

2014-02-25 Thread cary black
First I would like to thank all of you who replied to my email. In particular, Jeff, Richard and David for their photo posting suggestions. I will give them a try this weekend and see what I am able to do. I think I tried one 3 or more years ago. I not any smarter but maybe I am a little more computer savvy.

I am 68 years old and in the past I have said I would sell my collection when I turned 70 but I think I might die with my boots on. Anyhow when I am gone or need the money the posters will go on the market. I believe in giving other collectors a chance to acquire some of the scarce posters that I own. No one in my family has any interest in them and considers my interest a mild eccentricity. They know there is money in the collection but I don't talk about what I paid. They will have suggestions who to contact. Giving them to an institution without money to process and catalog them often condemns them to a storage area where they will not be accessible or seen by the public.

I decided to collect 20s, 30s and 40s posters because they were some the movies I really enjoyed plus the stone litho artwork on many of them was what I loved. I have a pretty good collection of film noir missing some key (expensive) titles I passed on some due to cost or not caring for the movie. I have a pretty strong collection of the 30s and 40s detective series. About 10% of my posters are off genre ranging from a French one sheet of Keaton's Navigator to 12 O'clock High with Peck. When I tell people I have over 600 posters in my collection they are taken aback. I just tell them I have been collecting over 35 years, I didn't buy them 2 weeks ago.

I am probably most proud of the mystery/crime posters from the 30s that I own. Some titles are Mystery of Mr X one sheet 1934,
The Thirteenth Guest 3 sheet, 1932, Notorious Sophie Lang one sheet 1935, Crack Up one sheet 1937 with Lorre, Night Club Lady 1932 one sheet with Menjou, Bombay Mail one sheet with Lowe, a Universal production and others. Many have only been offered a couple times, some I have never seen outside my collection. Of course scarcity does not guarantee value. There has to be interest and demand, otherwise why would many film noir titles command a big price when they appear in auction several times a year. You just need deep pockets and you can own them.

If anyone cares to email me i would be pleased to hear from them.
