As a cultural icon for this country...irreplaceable (the word is used too often 
when someone passes but this time you can count on it).

It was miserable morning today, grey, pouring down with rain and David Bowie 
was dead - just a sad day!

Too hard to choose.  One of my favorite things was seeing him sing with Bing 
Crosby.  I was a teenager and loved Bowie and here he was, with that beautiful 
voice, singing Christmas songs with Bing.I remember it well.

This brings back such I childhood memory. I too remember him singing Little
Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby and it was really great. They were many
generations apart yet it was so interesting. I remember too, the melancholy
attached to it. The show became an unexpected tribute to Bing Crosby as his
Christmas Special had been pre-taped in London and in the intervening time
Bing Crosby had died while finishing a golf game in Spain, I think. Yes that
was a cool childhood memory; from a time when there was only one TV in the
houseand my parents of course watched Bing Crosby and our "Ziggy Stardust"
was there singing with him.

musician, he also made a valuable contribution to the film industry.
Nominated for a Golden Globe for his song Cat People from the movie of the
same name, he can claim up to 39 acting credits. With film appearances such
as 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' / Christiane F. / The Hunger / Merry
Christmas Mr Lawrence / Yellowbeard / Absolute Beginners / Labyrinth / Last
Temptation Of Christ / August and The Prestige to name a few, his
contribution to the arts is worth remembering.

 

He will be sadly missed.RIP David.

I found it a really depressing way to start the day.  I was very sad to read

Admittedly David Bowie was an acquired taste, but like his music or not he
