Re: [mou-net] Elizabeth Bell
Thank you for letting us know, Tom. Elizabeth "has her wings" now, but she will be missed by many for a long time to come. You know how to find us, and please don't hesitate to do so. [mou-net] Early spring sightings
Thursday I sighted my first Kingfisher of the year at the mouth of Minnehaha Creek on the Mississippi River. It entertained me by plunging into the river, coming up with a fish/minnow and flying to the lower branch of the tree and then after assumably consuming its catch flying back to the top branch of he tree 15 to 20 feet above the river from which it repeated the cycle two more times before flying across the river. Later on the grounds of he MN Veterans Home , I saw a brown creeper. Today on my way to Afton State Park I passed a couple of snow melt flooded fields occupied by Scaup and Canada Geese. My wife Elizabeth took her last breath this morning. I post this because the birding community was a big part of our life. Elizabeth served MOU as editor of the newsletter and as membership chairman. We will have a memorial service at Carpenter Nature Center in April. I will keep you informed. Lung cancer was the villain, she elected not to tell many, yet we have known about it for over two years. The first year was symptom free and we took our last birding trip to Panama. We have valued the friendship of many of you. Tom Bell bell.to...@gmail.com 5868 Pioneer Road S. [mou-net] Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds
25th annual Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds' registration is now open for the May 19-21 event. Birding by pontoon, field trips Friday and Saturday mornings, hummingbird presentation by Carrol Henderson and Scott Weidensaul on the big screen based on his latest book, A World on the Wing are some of the highlights. A field trip features a live Greater Prairie Chicken to identify field markings. Online registration at https://visitdetroitlakes.com/event/festival-of-birds-in-detroit-lakes-minne sota/. [mou-net] 140th St. Marsh, 3/25, Dakota C.
Several Green-winged Teal and a few Greater White-Fronted Geese have joined the mix at the marsh, in addition to the Blue-winged Teal and Wood Duck that were there Wednesday. Still present were some Hooded Mergansers and Kildeer also, among the many Canada Geese and Mallards. There were Red-winged Blackbirds, but no Yellow-headed, Brewer's, nor Rusty so far as I could tell.
