Re: [mou-net] MOU state fair booth

2017-03-15 Thread Mark Alt
It was in my term as President of the MOU. I would guess 2005, after the
owl invasion. I headed up the negaotiations with Carroll Henderson andrhe
DNR then Carroll put me in contact with many others that made it happen.
The booth came about because Carroll and I displayed beside each other in
the Owotanna Cabela's one day. people were streaming past us but no one
stopped i drew up a large sign for the table "ask us about birds" and we
had a crowd the rest of the day...

Kate Kelnberger and Jen Vieth, MOU State Fair Booth Coordinators, are seeking
some information. They asked Elizabeth and myself, because they knew we had
been volunteering for all the time they could remember, but I do not recall
when the MOU had its first booth outside the DNR building. My recollection is
that MOU and Audubon Minnesota together had a booth in the Education Building
prior to moving the DNR building, I remember staffing that booth. Our hope is
that someone out there in the birding community remembers.

[mou-net] Just FIVE spots left at the MOU State Fair Booth

2010-08-13 Thread jbaines317
Thanks to many wonderful volunteers (and Thomas Maiello’s enthusiastic state
fair promotional emails) we only have 5 spots left open.
Please contact me or go online to sign up for one of the following shifts
before they are gone.

8/26 Thursday 5-9 p.m.
8/31 Tuesday 5-9 p.m.
9/3 Friday 1-5 p.m.
9/5 Sunday 5-9 p.m.
9/6 Monday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Volunteers will be receiving their state fair passes in the mail next week from
Kate Kelnberger.
Rich Peet and Thomas Maiello will be on call most of the state fair week to
handle any MOU computer display questions.
The new displays look GREAT and we also have some fun bird posters to hand out.
If you have any questions or suggestions-please don’t hesitate to contact any
one of us.
And…we WILL have info on woodpeckers pecking on houses in case you get asked
that question.

Thank you all and I hope you all have a great weekend of birding, confusing
fall warblers and all-

A big hearty thank you on behalf of the MOU from Kate I for all the
outstanding volunteers who have stepped up and claimed a spot...or 5...at the
MOU booth. We've managed to get every shift covered.
There are only three shifts with just one volunteer so if you've been
waiting until the last minute to claim your spot at the MOU booth-now is the
time.

Here is what is still open:

9/7 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Thomas Maiello

Please drop me an email to claim your shift and include your mailing

[mou-net] MOU State Fair Booth almost filled!

2009-08-03 Thread Jbaines317
Hello Everyone-

Thank you for such a fantastic volunteer response and a big thank you to
Thomas for being such a great cheerleader. We've almost filled all the
shifts for the MOU booth at the State Fair.

I know some of you have been checking schedules and have been meaning to
sign up.
Now is the time to secure your spot before someone else gets it.
This is a great excuse to do something good for birds and the M.O.U. and
get into the fair free.

Each shift has room for two volunteers. If you want to bring a friend or
relative as the second volunteer that is ok. We have 9 empty shifts and four
shifts that just need a second volunteer.

Here are the remaining open shifts:
Sunday 8/30: One spot from 9 a. m.- 1 p. m. Two spots from 5 -9 p.m.
Monday 8/31: One spot from 5 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday 9/1: Two spots from 5 - 9 p.m.
Wednesday 9/2: Two spots from 5 - 9 p.m.
Thursday 9/3: One spot from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Two spots from 5 - 9 p.m.
Friday 9/4: One spot from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Two spots from 5 -9 p.m.
Saturday 9/5: Two spots from 5 - 9 p.m.
Sunday 9/6: Two spots from 5 -9 p.m.
Monday 9/7: Two spots from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Two spots from 1 - 5 p.m.

To sign up either drop me an email requesting a specific shift,
and please include your mailing address so we can get the State Fair
passes to you.

Or if you are more technologically adventurous you can sign up online
using the google calendar.
Brief instructions for signing up are listed below.

Thanks again for supporting MOU, birds, conservation.

[mou] Volunteers still needed for MOU state fair booth!

2005-08-14 Thread Dennis/Barbara Martin
Hi All,

I feel that the MOU State Fair Booth is one of the best venues
the MOU has to inform people about our organization.

It is also fun, enjoyable, easy and it comes with free tickets.

To the people who have already volunteered, please remember
that you can take more than one shift or can volunteer for more
than one day.

Please people, don't make the lad beg. He is doing the hard part
by organizing everything, carrying everything over to the fairgrounds
and arranging for the items to be picked up because he will be back
in school.

Please help Bob out and email him about volunteering.

Thank you.

Another plug/plea for help at the State Fair booth.

You're a Minnesota birder. So that tells us a few things.
It tells us that you:

- go to the fair
- are THRIFTY because the fair is SPENDY
- eat food on a stick
- like to watch/ID birds

SO VOLUNTEER -=20

- you're going there anyway
- parking and admission would be free (a heck of a deal)
- I have no response to eating food on a stick but there's lots of it at =
the fair
- you can add to the fair list

You can even come before your shift or stay after your shift is over
and have FUN at the fair:
Drink all the milk you can drink.
Go to Machinery Hill.
Eat more food on a stick.
Talk to carnies.
Go to the Livestock barns.
Go to International Village.
See more exposed sunburnt flesh than God intended.
Console yourself by eating food on a stick.
