onClick and Visible problems in NN

2001-02-06 Thread Robbie

Hi All

Can somebody please let me know why the following 2 bits of code won't work
in NN 4.7x:

1. onClick problems

I have created the above so that when the user clicks the IMG it goes to my
JavaScript function called "ordering()" . I would have thought that because
it is an tag it would auto-change to Hand cursor when I move over it,
but it don't.

I have created the above "ShowHand()" function to do the following, but
Netscape will not change the hand to a cursor:

function ShowHand(w) {
 if (w = 1){parent.chooser.products.style.cursor = "hand";}
 if (w = 0){parent.chooser.products.style.cursor = "default";}
}

It seems simple enough so what am I doing wrong??

2. Visibility problems

When the user clicks the IMG that I mentioned in point 1, it is supposed to
dothe following function but it don't:

function ordering() {
parent.title.winform.winloc.style.visibility = "visible";
parent.title.winform.seeme.style.visibility = "visible";
parent.viewer.location=parent.title.winform.winloc.options[parent.title.winf
orm.winloc.selectedIndex].value
}

All this function does is make an IMG and a SELECT box become visible, but
it don't work. In fact I can't make them invisible (style = "hidden" in the
tags of each type) to start with. I thought NN supported the visibile style
attribute?

After the visible its then supposed to click to teh page that is selected in
the SELECT box. To see this in better action, please have a look at
http://www.bardwells.co.uk to see what I mean.

Can somebody please clarify where I am going wrong on this as it is driving
me mad.

By the way, all this works perfect in IE 4 or greater.

Regards

Robbie

Keyboard shortcut to mark-as-read change permanent?

2001-02-06 Thread Thomas Wolf

I just started using the 02/05 build and noticed that the
keyboard shortcut to mark messages as read has changed from the
simple 'A' to 'Ctrl-Shift-C' - is this change permanent? If so,
why? It's hard as heck to enter! :-(

Hoping someone changes it back,
Tom

How to apply themes in mozilla 0.7?

2001-02-06 Thread Thomas Scheffler

Hi there,

I'm using mozilla 7.0 that build with svg and the one without it. The
problem is in both of them. Since version 0.7 there is no apply button
anymore when I select a new theme. So I thought clicking OK will result the
same. Nope. It doesn't.
Can anybody tell me how to apply a new theme then? How has the same problem?

Thanks

The preferences window sometimes opens to small. Resize the preferences
window and you will find the "Apply" button.

I don't know why the 'Ctrl' part, but "Shift-C" is what it was in
Communicator and similar in other newsreaders. The n.p.m.mailnews group
would be a better for this, though. There was a long discussion on the

Not that ignorance is an excuse, but I wasn't aware of that newsgroup, nor
did I think of the change a bug fix - so I didn't think to look it up
in the bug database. Thanks for the suggestions.

blank space does not encode in Netscape.

2001-02-06 Thread greg robinson

Hello all,

I am having a problem with the encoding in netscape. When I pass along a URL
line with a blank space in it i.e. "www.test.com?theblank=blank space",
Netscape errors out. In IE, the line is converted to
"www.test.com?theblank=blank%20space" and works just fine. Is there a
server-side fix for this ? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx

Greg

Re: blank space does not encode in Netscape.

2001-02-06 Thread Chris Beall

Greg,

URLs may not contain blanks. As you've discovered, IE is aware of this and
covers up lots of what are really user errors. The solution is to use the
%20 notation where you now have a blank.

You did not describe how the line that you "pass along" is generated. If
you did that, someone might be able to help with specifics on how to get the
proper string into the URL.

Um, it is generally considered to be bad form to post the same question into
multiple newsgroups. It's probably not good for me to reply to all those
groups either, so you've embarrassed both of us...

Unfortunately, it _is_ true that this file must be deleted to start
Mozilla in some (rare) circumstances.

I personally have seen this quite a number of times, and in the win32
newsgroup you will find that just one hour or so after your post, it was
suggested to a user that they remove these files - and sure enough, they
could again start Mozilla.

Indeed, I have a mozregistry.dat file in my inbox that causes such a
crash, and intend seeing if I can find exactly who is hanging...

I am using the win32 build, for some reason mozilla stops after few
minutes of trying. I am behind a proxy firewall, I know this is not the
cause, as the same proxy configuration works with 0.7 release build.

I also noticed the javascript:windows.open() isn't working in last few

The first post in the thread to which you refer says James he had *already*
tried deleting mozregistry.dat and it hadn't helped. The files he did delete
that helped were the profile files. Those are notorious for causing
problems. Deleting mozregistry.dat was sometimes helpful in the past when it
contained the profile data; it does no longer.

Was this file generated before or after the profile data was moved out of
that file?

No, you have mis-analyzed the problem.

"Pass" in which sense? Anyway, it simply isn't a well-formed URL, i.e.
it does not comply with the URL syntax as defined (in RFC 2396). And I
don't mean the http:// part, which _really_ needs to be there if you are
about to put the URL into an HREF value for example. I mean the space
character.

>Netscape errors out. In IE, the line is converted to
>"www.test.com?theblank=blank%20space" and works just fine.

I'm not sure I see what conversion you mean, but in a URL, a space
character must _always_ be encoded as %20, and it is not a browser's job
to do such an operation e.g. for an HREF value. You, or the person or
program that writes an HREF value, needs to do the encoding.

_Only_ when a URL originates from the submission of a form with
method="get" is it a browser's duty to perform the encoding, since for
such a situation, this is part of the defined form handling by browsers.

>Is there a server-side fix for this ?

Fix for what? The problem is a malformed URL. It needs to be fixed where
it occurs.

Followups trimmed.
