Re: [MSX] Sunrise IDE interface
Hello Raymond, What exactly do you mean with 'it does not boot'? Do you see the MSX logo or the boot text of the IDE? If not, then your 2048KB memory module is probably not working fine, causing the MSX to hang. Grtz, Jon -Original Message- From: msx-boun...@stack.nl [mailto:msx-boun...@stack.nl] On Behalf Of Raymond Sent: dinsdag 3 januari 2012 17:20 To: msx@stack.nl Subject: [MSX] Sunrise IDE interface Hello, I have a strange problem with my Sunrise IDE interface. When I have the interface connected to my NMS8280 and have a 2048KB memory module installed, it won't boot. However when using a seperate DOS 2 cartridge (without IDE interface), I can use the 2048 KB (create a ramdisk for example). When I use only the IDE interface it does boot, but not together... I am using the 2.40 firmware for the IDE interface and I know it includes DOS-2. Is it a modified version? Hope someone has a usefull tip for me! Thanks. Re: [MSX] Sunrise IDE
Hi Personaly I would not add the CD Fat 16 drivers to automaticaly load, not everybody use them all the time. IdeFdisk everybody needs and having it in the flashrom will help a lot - ( somewhat like bios on pc) A Bootmanager would also be very nice in the rom for easy partition selection etc ex MSXDOS no fat 16 - boot partition 1 Activate partitions 2,3,4,5 ex MSXODS Fat 16- boot partition 6 Activate partitions 1,3,4,7,8 ex Uziz boot partition 10 Activate partitions 11,12 etc OR ex just choose the boot partition no preditermined partiton selection ex MSXDOS no fat 16 - boot partition 1 ex MSXODS Fat 16- boot partition 6 ex Uziz boot partition 10 etc Thanks JP ___ MSX mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Info page: http://lists.stack.nl/mailman/listinfo/msx
Re: [MSX] Sunrise IDE
I would like the BASIC-Kun compiler like it exists in ROM in the Sanyo MSX2+ systems to be in the IDE interface. Loading it from disk is cumbersome and I can only imagine R800 and BASIC-Kun working together in my turboR :) oh ^_^ Any information on how to do something like this would be welcomed. Loading it from disk is cumbersome and I can only imagine R800 and BASIC-Kun working together in my turboR :) oh ^_^ Yeah, this sounds good too. Actually the IDE should have some kind of ROM Loader, which can be set up to load several ROMs at once (i.e. IDE BIOS + DOS2 + Gfx9000 Basic + Kun Basic + RS232 BIOS)... Also the option to assign keys to them in order to skip loading, or force loading (for example if you also wanna load a game into it, and just in case the flashing didn't work out ok). If you combine that with a FAT12 driver for it... could be awesome. ~Grauw --- Ushiko-san! JP Grobler wrote: HI Ideas regarding Sunrise ide: 1. Adding names to the disk partitions in the partitiontabel seeing than msx now uses its own partitionformat (adding names at the end ? ex Uzix, Dos2.2, Games a-c, Publisher, Utils, Fat 16 etc) Modify msx programs to read the names for easy partiton selection! 2.How about using the extra space in the Sunrise flashrom to add Fdisk310 (etc) Ex. Press f1 on start up to access idebios (similar to pc bios) to select which partitions is active, format etc) 3. Adding a boot manager also in the flash rom. Here the naming of the partitions will be very nice ex Press f2 to select boot manager and change what to boot Uzix, Dos, Dos Fat 16 etc THanks JP PS It is a great ide interface. Yes. The CompactFlash interface is faster than the normal IDE interface, isn't it? I own both interfaces but still I haven't bought any CompactFlash card (256 and 512MB cards are quite expensive). Hi, Ideas regarding Sunrise ide: Nice ideas. But I really would prefer ASPI partitioning scheme above all other ideas. If I had enough free time, I would start hacking Sunrise IDE BIOS... Ivan Latorre wrote: JP Grobler wrote: Ideas regarding Sunrise ide: [...] Personally, loading the FAT16 driver from the FlashROM would seem even more useful than IDEFDISK ^_^. Maybe someone can create a driver for it so that the remaining FlashROM space can be used and accessed like a normal FAT12 drive? (something similar can be done with the turboR's SRAM, right?). PS It is a great ide interface. Yes. The CompactFlash interface is faster than the normal IDE interface, isn't it? Yes it is, although it would be better to say that Compact Flash is faster than common IDE harddisks. However not by much, with HDSPEED I measured a reading speed of 230kb/s on my HD, and a speed of 260kb/s on my CF. I don't think that's a very shocking difference :). I own both interfaces but still I haven't bought any CompactFlash card (256 and 512MB cards are quite expensive). 128MB cards are quite affordable, and I don't know how much HD space you are using right now (and what you are possibly using it for), but I find 128MB sufficient for my needs. And it seems I am quite a space-waster, because other people said they can make do just fine with 64 and 32MB CF carts. ~Grauw --- Ushiko-san!
