[Musicpd-dev-team] MPD reads Artist Tag Incorrectly (could be a bug).
Hi, I am using mpd-0.15.8-1.fc12.i686 installed via rpms on an fedora 12 machine. Most of my music collection is in the .m4a format (encoded in iTunes) and tagged using the picard tagger. It appears that mpd is reading the Composer tag in the tag as the Artist. For example, for a particular file the tag reads : http://web6.twitpic.com/img/68993695-66bb9631dd0dbc57b0139cc8a6d9bd61.4b8530b5-scaled.png (screenshot of amarok displaying the file info) for the same file, the mpd.db database entry reads : http://web1.twitpic.com/img/68994723-504bd2387c4e9f92352779623126d1b9.4b8531ed-full.png As you can see, mpd says the artist is Eddie Vedder, when actually it is Pearl Jam is the Artist and Eddie Vedder is the Composer (or maybe the primary song writer). This is the problem with most of my music collection. As a result the MPD client will display an extended list of Artists, making it difficult to look for a particular album by a particular artist, this also effect the last.fm submissions (via mpdscribble). Is this an known issue and fixed in some newer release of mpd or is there something that needs to be corrected in the mpd configuration. Please advice. Re: [Musicpd-dev-team] MPD reads Artist Tag Incorrectly (could be a bug).
Hi, You can find a test file here http://download.damagehead.com/samples/11%20The%20End.m4a. The m4a file is AAC. Through my investigation i figured that mpd uses ffmpeg to read tags (atleast in this case), so i decided to find out what sort of tags ffplay dumps and heres what is says: --OUTPUT START Metadata major_brand : M4A minor_version : 0 compatible_brands: M4A mp42isom title : The End author : Eddie Vedder album : Backspacer genre : Rock track : 11 year: 2009-09 --OUTPUT END ffplay does not display any artist, but instead prints the author, which is what mpd is probably picking on. Hope this helps...
