Re: [Musicpd-dev-team] More flexible OS X output
Greg Ward greg at gerg.ca writes: Hi all -- I've been a happy mpd user for many years, and now I finally have an opportunity to contribute something. Specifically, I'm setting up a retired G4 PowerBook as a living-room music server using mpd to feed an external USB DAC. And I've found that mpd's OS X output plugin isn't quite as flexible as I like: there's no way to specify which audio device to use. This is no big deal if everything runs the logged-in desktop user, but I'm running mpd as a system daemon started at boot, with a dedicated mpd user. So it only connects to the Mac's internal audio hardware, not my nice USB DAC. ... Hi! sorry to resume this old thread but I don't seem to find anything newer on this topic. I am trying to use the latest version of MPD (0.16.8) on OsX Lion with an external USB dac that is integrated my power amp. Now, I am not very familiar with patches and recompiling on Mac so I'd like to know if, in the meantime, the situation has evolved for MPD in MacOsX and where can I find documentation on how to configure MPD to output to the USB DAC. If the patch is still needed, is it working on MPD 0.16.8? Where do I find the DAC audio device name to configure the patched MPD? It looks like the patch has made it into git, but not into a release so far. Seems like your best bet is compiling from git. Regarding configuration, it looks like the device name is the name that OS X presents to the user, e.g. Internal Speakers. Re: [Musicpd-dev-team] [OT?] MPRIS and MPD
Seems kind of odd to talk about integrating with shiny new Ubuntu/Unity, given the whole pulseaudio deal. Unless something has changed and I didn't notice, Ubuntu uses pulseaudio, which runs per-user, so you can't really get mpd to work right with log in/out without jumping through some hoops. (Maybe, hopefully, I've missed something?) [Musicpd-dev-team] Output effects
Is there any way to apply effects to MPD's output? I sometimes play guitar along to music and if I need to transpose or speed it up or slow it down I need to open another program. It'd be nice to just enable an effect plugin instead. I imagine slowing down/speeding up is a whole different ball game from shifting the pitch, but just want to know what, if anything, of this is possible at the moment. --bart -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
