[MLO] Re: Multiple problems with MLO PPC 3.0

2009-06-20 Thread Oleg

Please try insatlling the appilcation to the main memory if it was
installed on a storage card.

If that doesn't help:

Please get a copy of MLO Tweaker application from
http://www.mylifeorganized.net/downloads/files/MLOTweaker.zip
and follow these instructions:
1. Cradle the PDA
2. Launch the tweaker
3. Navigate to Troubleshooting / Debugging item in the tree view
4. Make sure MLO-PocketPC: application logging enabled check boxe is
checked
and the rest of MLO-PocketPC logging enabled settings are clear.
5. Close the tweaker
6. Do a soft reset of the PDA for the changes to take effect
7. Cradle the PDA
8. Do the steps to reproduce the issue and close the error winwow on
the PDA
9. Launch MLO Tweaker
10. Use Save all logs to... button in mlo tweaker to copy log files
from device to desktop computer
11. Zip the copied log files and send them to me for an
investigation.

Thanks,
Oleg

The beta seems to have some problem. I am unable to install it.
Basically I tried installing many times, but even when it installs
fine, am unable to run MLO - system finally shows error message that -
'file MLO could not be opened and that one of its component could be
missing'. The message was saying to reinstall again.

 Here is the long story.

Yesterday I tried installing this beta.

I tried many times, but am unable to install this:
 1. First time installation process was 35-40% complete, and then it
hanged. I waited for 10 mins, and finally did a soft reset
 2. After soft reset it itself prompted for install, and progress bar
indicated installation progress upto 100%, but did not complete. Again
it hanged, I waited for 15 mins, and finally did a soft reset.
 3. Assuming that it may have partially installed, I tried using the
system - but the moment MLO icon or MLO file was about to show the
system hanged. I soft resetted again.
 4. Fourth time I uninstalled MLO and installed - this time it
installed fine. With all the messages that whether I want to remove
activation keys registry entires, etc. Finally there was message that
installation completed successfully. Now when I tried to use the
system, however the results were still same - the moment MLO icon or
MLO file was about show the system hanged. I soft resetted again.
 5. Fifth time I repeated as in point 4 above, that is uninstall and
install, and installation went just fine. However still when I tried
to access MLO from Programs, system seemed to have hanged.
BUT this time did not reset and instead leaved the device for half
hour - --- finally there was message, something like - 'file MLO could
not be opened and that one of its component could be missing'. The
message was saying to reinstall again.

 Eagerly waiting for your response.

I have posted about the points 1 2 elsewhere on this forum, but will
describe again.

I was using MLO 2.5 - both desktop PPC. There were no problems.

Upgrading to MLO 3.0, the first problem I noticed was that switching
to TODO view or back to Outline view was slow.
Then I noticed that adding new items too at times is slow.

Then one day after entering note text the MLO PPC hanged. Restarting
MLO PPC (after mobile soft reset), again hanged.
The I tried again, this time waiting endlessly... and it could open
the mlo file on PPC finally.

Now today I was syncing MLO PPC to Desktop - the MloWmSync.exe started
syncing ... but kept sycing endlessly (in endless loop while syncing),
for 25 minutes.

Finally I had to disconnect the device to stop MloWmSync, and then
exited this application.

I believe the MLO PPC 3.0 is unstable and has multiple problem.

[MLO] Re: Folders in To-Do List

2009-06-20 Thread Andrey

It is not possible. In MLO concept the To-Do list is a list of actions
without hierarchy (no subtasks). The list could be groupped though
with different criteria.

I would love to have folders in the Do list with a little +- symbol to
open/close the folder to see the tasks within. Just like in the
outline. This has not necessarily something to do with subtasks. It
should also be possible e.g. for tasks where i use the notes as
reference or all tasks with recurrence or whatever tasks i´d like to
group that way. In the Do-List this container for tasks should have
its own properties und could be sorted by those.

If it comes to subtasks/projekts i´d like to have the possibility to
see all subtasks instead of only one (works already) and have the
opportunity to collapse those under the parent project name/task which
 now constantly dissapears.

I guess this would increase the overview and of course would save
space/lines. It makes me feel calm to see just as many tasks i have
 to. ;-)

business people out there looking for a task outline application if

clunky plus I do not want to work off of the web for a desktop version
not to mention it sends intrusive messages regarding access to the

The trouble with BB tasks begins with the worthlessness of the Outlook
task function.  Now that I have figured out through the advanced
Outlook Sync feature to sync only the action items on the task list
view, the integration with Outlook is pretty damn good and allows me
to sync those tasks with categories/contexts with the BB.  But
navigating and filtering tasks by category on the BB is slow and
visually horrible - it is virtually unusable.  I really don't need the
full functionality of the OLM desktop on my BB.  I primarily want an
outline view that can expand and collapse - everything else will be
frosting on the cake.  I am a project manager and a simple task list
 is just too unwieldy.

Most of the iPhone market is made up by consumers using it as a web

[MLO] Re: Repriorizing

2009-06-20 Thread Andrey

Changing task order manually on To-Do in unsorted mode is in my plan.
I have already posted here all the technical difficulties to implement
it. I just need time to design it carefully without affecting current
design.

Actually I'd like to second Alexandra!

I'm using MLO since years and to be honest, the only feature I never
really got to work by 100% (according to my needs) had been those to-
 do ordering options.

It would make perfect sense for me to for example pick every morning
those must do today kind of tasks, and mark them by a specific flag
(or actually as I do it... move them into a specific folder).

Then, in a second step, I'd order them the way I'd like working on
them (while allowing me, to change this order by drag and drop, as
soon as this might be necessary).

According to me, that's not at all opposed to GTD!

I myself like to pick from my various lists, what I believe should be
 done during a specific day.

But then, there should be a kind of order, you're processing your
 tasks one after the other.

I think, you'll have to make this order anyway... either just
mentally, or rather physically (by sorting your tasks manually by
 drag and drop).

As I said, I would be very happy to see this working... I certainly
can live without (since there are always workarounds), but I would be
very happy, to having this additional feature.

see them as long i deal with more important ones. I want to push them
further down to focus on the tasks above.

I guess Richard amd many others think the same way. Actually it´s not
a big thing to achieve. If you try to drag drop in the Do-List it
looks like it would almost work. Until the disapointing message
  appears (-;)

Let´s elaborate how and when manual sorting would make sense. Assume
the Do-List is sorted by computed score. The dragging of a task within
tasks with identical property-values (Imp. Urg. Due) should be no
problem. If you would drag the task to a position it never would have
been sorted to then the taskproperties should adapt to the destination
position. The property-values (Imp. Urg. Due) would then be changed to
  justify the new position.
Another option would be the possibility to copy and paste property-
values (Imp. Urg. Due) from one task to another. The result would be
similar. Maybe this would be easier for Andrey to realise. I hope he
can manage to drop a line or two, as i think many would benefit from
  that option.

[MLO] Re: Automatic Formatting and use custom formatting

2009-06-20 Thread Andrey

here is the logic for color coding:

1) apply theme settings
2) overwrite theme settings with settings set in autoformat
3) overwrite theme and autoformat settings with custom format settings
set

Please note that only the settings you set explicitly in custom
formatting will overwrite autoformat and theme. If for example you set
Italic in custom format and leave Bold untouched, then Bold settings
will be taken from theme/autoformat and only Italic will be
overwritten.

I will check what happens with gradient.

I'm asking because I found the following... I have an automatic
formatting rule setting a background colour as a gradient. I then go
to custom formatting and set another colour, but WITHOUT a gradient.

My task now appears in the new colour (custom format), but still in
 a gradient (auto format).

I would have expected, that my custom format would have overwritten
the auto format, but that does not seem to be the case (at least not
as it relates to the gradient).

[MLO] Re: Repriorizing

2009-06-20 Thread Alexis

Great!

I understand. Manual sorting somehow collides with the sophisticated
automatic sorting capabilities of MLO (Computed sorting).

Thats why i came up with adapting/correcting the sorting-relevant
properties-values (Imp. Urg. Due) to the position of destination. This
way you can keep sorting on.

In Outlook for example you can only drag drop with sorting is
switched off and i definitetly won´t sort all my tasks manually!

I would be very pleased to know which way you are planning to
implement this and give you feedback on it. A nice function in this
context would also be to push tasks up and down with a dedicated
keycommand. ;-)

[MLO] Re: Discussion on mlo-for-blackberry

2009-06-20 Thread scoobie

I think there are also cases for the Palm Pre and Android versions of
MLO too.

I appreciate this is a very fragmented approach if supporting multiple
mobile platforms for MLO but there is no clear winner yet in the the
mobile market.

Win Mobile - I think this platform should get continued support as
there are so many devices already and Windows Mobile Version 7 ,
although a year off, seems to be Microsofts big push to capture market
share back from Apple.
Iphone - has lots of task managers already available - though only one
other actually priortises your to do list (LB), the rest are very
basic. Things is the most popular but is basic.
Palm Pre - people seem impressed with the new OS, it seems to be
taking off with nearly 1 million application downloads already. The
advantage of getting in early I think is an argument here.
Android - also seems to be taking off , with lots of handsets coming
out this year.
Blackberry - lots of users though many of the devices are locked down
I suspect as they are in corporate use - I suspect these types of
users do not buy applications online.

There is an interesting write up of the smartphone market and
application marets here:

Most of the iPhone market is made up by consumers using it as a web
toy and competing in that app market will be like shouting across a
packed football stadium to a friend on the other side.  Take care of
us in the BB business market.  I can't believe you won't be quickly
  rewarded for your efforts.

[MLO] Re: Feature Request: 10 Features

2009-06-20 Thread Alexis

Thank you Eberhard for taking the time.

To 2: It´s not about Due-Dates but about Start Dates/Time. The effect
of Start Dates is that tasks do not appear in the Do-List until this
date is reached. For myself i added this function in my added menu
(see MLO My Menu.jgp) where i can let disappear the selected task for
a specified amount of time (hourglass, german time names). I use that
to keep my list nice and short and don´t have to deal with tasks i can
´t do anything about at the moment.

To 6: You´re right. Didn´t realize that. Perfect as it is.

To 8: Don´t want to play a lot around either. A different background
colour would be sufficient. At the moment i don´t see any view name!
It used to be like View at the task column but disappeared!

By the way your name sounds kind of german too! ;-)

[MLO] Re: Repriorizing

2009-06-20 Thread RichardCollings

The problem is that the final priority score for an item is not
determined by the Imp, Urg and Due settings for that item - it is also
determined by these settings for the parents of the item. So two
items can have exactly the same set of values but can appear in
completely different places in the list as their parents have
different settings.

So it is actually a very difficult to problem to solve (but one that
will be worth solving!!).

Changing task order manually on To-Do in unsorted mode is in my plan.

:-))

I have already posted here all the technical difficulties to implement
it. I just need time to design it carefully without affecting current
 design.

I can see that it is going to be very difficult to do - lots of
issues.

I think there are two separate situations where manual ordering would
be very helpful

1) Where you are trying to plan your day (as described in various
recent posts) where you want to pull out the things that you want to
work on and put them into order. This is very short term

2) When you are planning a project and have built some form of task
breakdown but you then want to put the tasks into an order that makes
sense and which will endure until you change it

Re 1 - I wonder whether splitting the To Do list and allowing the user
to build a manual list at the top by draggging and dropping them out
automatically sorted list would work? For me this is the most
important requirement

Re 2 - this can be done at the moment by using dependencies. What
would be good would be to be able to insert dependencies by drag and
drop - ie when you drag a item and then drop it between two other
items, it adds dependency links which make it a dependent of its
predecessor item and which make its successor item a dependent of
this.

Thanks again for adding this into your ToDo list

Richard

I would love to have a HW button assigned to completing tasks!

I dont know about other devices, but there is no chance with it to
complete tasks accidentaly in my pocket..

  Hi Jon,

I foresee a lot of requests shortly after this is implemented asking
to remove the feature because of accidental completions of to-do items

 Fair enough.

There is an alternative approach to completing a task without using a
stylus. Press and hold the Entrer button and use Toggle task from a
  context menu.

This works and fit my criteria of a fix or workaround.  Except the
context menu behaves extremely weirdly.  When I move up and down the
context menu, the highlight doesn't disappear from the previously
highlighted options.  Is this a known issue by any chance?

Thanks again for the workaround suggestion!
