ERROR 1030: Got error 127 from table handler?

2003-07-05 Thread Jonathan Chen
Hi everyone! I recently bought Mr. DuBois' MySQL book and got through the tutorials
just fine. Since I wanted to venture into the wild without the help of the tutorials,
I decided to make a project of my own.

I have a guitar magazine collection with song transcriptions and all; I own around 60
so everytime I want to look up a song I have to go through most of the mags to find
the song I'm looking for. Enter MySQL!

I created a DB called 'tabs' and three tables: 'artist', 'song' and 'mag'. On the
'artist' table I have two columns: artist_name and artist_id, the latter is not null
by default and auto incremented. On 'mag', I have five columns: mag_name, month, year,
song_id and artist_id. And on 'song', song_name and song_id. As you can see, 'mag' is
the link between 'artist' and 'song'.

I started going through every magazine adding rows to every table succesfully. I ran
test queries using the 'source' command and a text file. Everything was working just
fine at that point. On day 3, I was almost done adding all the records to the tables
when I ran a test query and all off a sudden I get a ERROR 1030: Got error 127 from
table handler error message. I hadn't experienced ANY errors up to this point. The
weird thing is I only got this type of message on the 'mag' and 'song' tables;
'artist' works just fine. I get this error message even with ordinary 'SELECT * FROM
mag;' queries. As far as I know, all the tables are of the same kind: MySQL standard
table type. So, MySQL gurus out there... what can I do to solve this problem? Is there
a way I can recover all the info I added on the 'mag' and 'song' tables? Thanx in
advance!

The difference between 1.9G and 2.2G table when create Index

2003-07-05 Thread James Yang
Hello MySQL,

I have a MYISAM table, which is about 2.2G and 19,000,000 records. When I
create indexs for it, I couldn't finish after 4 hours. But when I reduce the
records to 16,000,000, about 1.9G, the same index can be finished within 35
minutes. Can anyone explain it? Thanks in advance.

I am using PIII 550, RedHat 8.0, with 1G Memory and IDE Hard Disk. The
database is stored at ext3 file system. When I use show processlist for
the 2.2G indexs, it tell me Copying to tmp table.

You mean it was still running? Was there still disk or CPU activity
after 4 hours?

But when I reduce

That's much shorter than 4 hours!

Maybe your disk was full when creating the 2.2G table's index? MySQL
waits until disk space becomes available again. You wouldn't see much
disk activity while it is waiting.

Keep in mind that MySQL makes a copy of your table while it is adding
the index. You'll need twice the space of your initial table, plus
space for the additional index.

Fred.

Check this URL for details:

http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Full_disk.html

There seems to be an exception to this rule when an index is added, so I
may be wrong on this. The adding of an index happens in two phases and
the docs are not clear to me about the first (copying) phase however.
Your earlier comment indicates it is in the first phase still.

New DBManager 2.1.1

2003-07-05 Thread Crercio O. Silva
The release 2.1.1 is a major bug fix and a few new features. If you are
using an older Professional version, please consider updating it. Bellow,
you can see the list of changes:

NEW FEATURES

-Added support to load/export binary data into/from a table (for blob
fields). From now on BLOB fields will be marked as 'Blob' and TEXT fields
will be marked as 'Memo'.
-Added option to Preferences=Security to use active connection to the
server
-Added option to Preferences=Query to choose the default font face to be
used in the Datasheet View Grid
-Added support to drag and drop a entire database from one server to
another
-Enabled Copy to Clippboard (CTRL+C) for selected rows in the Datasheet
View
-Added option to the Import Data Wizard: you can select to log error
messages and/or SQL statements
-Added option to the Import Data Wizard: you can choose not to create
integer fields as AUTO INCREMENT
-The Import Data Wizard can now import Binary Data from MSAccess
-The Import Data Wizard imports the Relationships directly to the database
if using MySQL/InnoDB Tables or PostgreSQL
-Added support for Foreign Keys in the Query Designer. Now it uses the
default tables relationships (Foreign Keys) instead of the internal
DBManager relationships
-Servers can be marked as auto connect at startup
-In MySQL newer versions you can drop Foreign Keys

FIXES

-Fixed Table quoting for MySQL versions older than 3.23.6
-Added full support for MySQL 3.22 versions
-Fixed Datasheet View Grid refreshing
-Fixed Active Transaction bug for PostgreSQL
-Fixed bug when Importing tables from MSAccess. Data failed to be imported
if the original field name was renamed due to reserved words in the CREATE
TABLE
-Fixed problem with Query Designer and AutoMap fields in Import Text
Wizard: the dialogs didn't come up when using the DBLang.DLL
-Fixed Index selection in the Table Preferences: the fields didn't match
the selected index
-Fixed minor bugs in the Table Editor
-When editing table data the size of the edit doesn't change overriding the
next cell
-Fixed blank error message box when creating an user.
-Database API for PostgreSQL was improved to add better support to the use
of Namespaces (for PostgreSQL 7.3 or newer)

In a few days we will release the source code of the DBLang.DLL and the
HTML documentation. Anyone willing to translate the application to other
native languages will need to use the Visual Studio 6.0 to compile and link
the DLL and the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop (can be downloaded for free at
www.microsoft.com) to compile the HTML Help manual. For those who doesn't
have any of these softwares you may download the package for translation
and send it back to me to create the DLL and CHM required.
I would like to thank you all who sent me bug reports, documentation and
website revisions. It wouldn't be possible without your help.
PS: Before downloading the new version remember that the mirrors is being
updated at the moment, but we expect to have everything working in a few
hours. Also have in mind that not all mirrors are automatically updated,
please use those marked with (*). If you have problems with a mirror,
please send me a note telling the problem you are having and which mirror
you have downloaded the setup from. This will help me to fix eventual
problems.

What is the DBManager?

The DBManager is a FREE database manager for MySQL and PostgreSQL and runs
only on Windows platforms. Supports managing all objects in a database
server. It also includes wizards to help you with moving data from
MSAccess, ODBC, MSExcel, Text Files, DBF, Paradox, create PHP scripts, etc.
The complete list of features and additional information can be found at
http://www.dbtools.com.br

Best Regards,

behavior of SELECT NOW ()

2003-07-05 Thread Rubens Jr.
Hi !

In a server with Conectiva Linux 6.0 (A Brazilian version) and Mysql
3.23.36
the comand SELECT NOW() returns 2003-07-05 10:00:00 both in
the server and in the clients (Windows 98 with mysql-front and many programs
writen in Delphi and MYODBC 2.50 or Zeos).

In a new server with Conectiva 8 and Mysql 4.0.13
the comand SELECT NOW() returns 2003-07-05 10:00:00 only on
the server, but in the clients returns 05/07/2003 10:05:00 !!
This format of date / time is the way we use here in Brazil, BUT the
programs
expect the other way (-MM-DD HH:MM) and then they crash ! :(

What can I do / configure to get the same response on server and the clients
?

Thanks

Rubens Jr.

Getting started (again)

2003-07-05 Thread David Wilson
Hi. I'm a relative MySQL newbie.

A few weeks ago, I installed MySQL 4.0.13 on my WinXP Home box.
After some use, the system began to run very slowly, e.g, the login
box, start menu, and other apps were taking a few seconds to respond
to my mouse. Rebooting did not solve the problem.

By trial and error, I pinpointed the problem to the MySQL daemon, so I
shut down the daemon and uninstalled MySQL so that my system would
respond after reboot, and this worked.

I would like to work through these issues, so I have reinstalled MySQL
4.0.13. But I am back at square one, trying to set up the server. I see
the mysqld-nt.exe daemon running, but I cannot connect. When I try
mysql -u root or mysql -u root -p with my previous password, I get

ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

I guess I need some hand-holding again, I can't seem to get past this.

Thanks for your help.

I get this error when trying to configure multisites in my postnuke

Compiling 4.2.3 with MySQL ... what does it look for?

2003-07-05 Thread -{ Rene Brehmer }-
X-posted to PHP General, PHP DB, and MySQL

Hi gang

Attempting to get my Linux test-server working, but ran into a problem when
making PHP...

System is RedHat 8, Apache 1.3.27 (compiled myself, tested OK), MySQL 4.0.13.

The Apache 2.0.40 and PHP 4.2.2 that came w. RH8 didn't work correctly,
thus I've ventured into my own creation.

Trying to build PHP 4.2.3 (because that's what my webhost runs, so need
that version to test correctly) w. support for MySQL. Running

./configure --with-mysql=/[path to mysql] --with-apxs=/[path to apxs]

Found the path to the apxs to be /usr/local/apache/bin/apxs, but for the
life of me I cannot figure out what path to give it for MySQL. I installed
MySQL from the the RPM files:
MySQL-client-4.0.13-0.i386.rpm
MySQL-devel-4.0.13-0.i386.rpm
MySQL-embedded-4.0.13-0.i386.rpm
MySQL-server-4.0.13-0.i386.rpm
MySQL-shared-4.0.13-0.i386.rpm

client and server first, the rest second ... used --force to get them in,
because it complained about version issues with the one already there (even
though the package manager was told not to put the Mysql in, it still put
MySQL 3.something in...)

When doing the configure above, I get this error:

configure: error: Cannot find header files under /usr/include

or whatever path I give it ... I'm having a hard time figuring out where
the RPM puts everything, and an even harder time figuring out what path to
stick to PHP ...

Some detective work gave me these paths:

MySQL (bins):
/usr/bin
/usr/share/mysql
MySQL daemon (mysqld):
/usr/libexec
/usr/sbin
MySQL headers (.h):
/usr/include/mysql
I've tried them all, but they all result in the above error. Anyone care to
guess which path I should give to the configure?

Or is it something else that causes this?
I haven't ever used MySQL before, or any other SQL for that matter, so got
0 experience in getting the system up and running with it...

TIA

Re: Optimal Disk Configuration

2003-07-05 Thread Dathan Vance Pattishall

It depends on what your goal is and how many disks your system will
contain.

Personally I like a disk configuration with multiple spindels for
performance. I also require redundancy, RAID-5 sounds good and is but I
want the most out of writes, so I go with RAID-1+0.

Hope this helps.

We're also running some MySQL databases on Windows 2000 Servers. What about
the best configuration for a dedicated W2k server running MySQL?

 Thanks,

Re: The difference between 1.9G and 2.2G table when create Index

2003-07-05 Thread James Yang
Thanks guys,

Actaully my Hard disk is 10G, just for one table. There is enough table
space. I noticed when I created index for 1.9G table, at the first phase,
mysql copy table, but mysql doesn't write to the tmp index file, I means the
filesize of the tmp index didn't increase. When I create index for 2.2G
table, the tmp index file is increased at the first phase. Any reason?

James

I have a MYISAM table, which is about 2.2G and 19,000,000 records.
When I
create indexs for it, I couldn't finish after 4 hours.

You mean it was still running? Was there still disk or CPU activity
 after 4 hours?

 But when I
reduce
the records to 16,000,000, about 1.9G, the same index can be finished
within 35 minutes. Can anyone explain it? Thanks in advance.

I am using PIII 550, RedHat 8.0, with 1G Memory and IDE Hard Disk. The
database is stored at ext3 file system. When I use show
processlist for
the 2.2G indexs, it tell me Copying to tmp table.

Regards,

Fred.

Re: Optimal Disk Configuration

2003-07-05 Thread colbey
My favourite for dedicated db servers (good amount of data, but a ton of
access, queries/sec) is raid 0+1 ... fast access, but requires a good number of
disks..

Be sure to use a good raid controller, multiple channels for the disks if
possible..

Re: Optimal Disk Configuration

2003-07-05 Thread Jim McAtee
That's it? The entire system - OS, swap space and data in a single array?
Nothing more involved?
