Re: MySQL.org
Hi, Well, it certainly seems to be pointing to MySQL.com alright. Although the domain name registrant is still NuSphere and DNS still appears to be handled by NuSphere's command the IPAddress it resolves to is definitely that of MySQL.com. Hmmm, I certainly hope this is justice and not just carrot dangling. Does anyone have any info from the team yet? Regards Andy. - Original Message - From: "Frederick L. Re: Nusphere is spamming me (Interesting Stuff)
> If you use MySQL I respectfully ask to to avoid NuSphere. > Do not support spammers. Here Here !!! > This really ticks me off, I mean really ticks me off big time. > Have they no shame? Wait until you read this. For a long time now Nusphere has been treading on far too many peoples toes (who do they think they are) not only are they annoying MySQL users with their exasperating antics they are also trying to steal MySQL from the very people that actually wrote the software. Dont forget, they have registered http://www.mysql.org for some very bizzare reasons. You don't have to take my word for it either there is some info about it at http://searchdatabase.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid13_gci75904 5,00.html Also, http://www.linuxgram.com/156/ states that NuSphere, the MySQL start-up and offshoot of Progress Software, has hired itself a president. "NuSphere, the MySQL start-up" ??? whats that all about. http://boston.internet.com/people/article/0,1928,2041_593741,00.html has this to say; NuSphere was founded in June and is a subsidiary of Progress Software (NASDAQ:PRGS). Its products include MySQL, an open source Web development platform. Come on guys who do they think they are trying to fool. And finaly, the distributor of MySQL is complaining about the antics of Microsoft, oh dear. http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2781638,00.html?chkpt=zdnnp1tp 02 "Microsoft can't beat us technically, so they've decided to strangle us in legal paperwork," said Lorne Cooper, president of NuSphere, distributor of the MySQL open source database system. So, what do you think we should do about all this. Regards Andy Woolley. - Original Message - From: "Michael A. Re: mysql.org
> I see one HUGE difference between these support sites and .net, > in regards to .com: Every one but .net clearly state that > this is a product of MySQL AB, tell people about and make > very explicit links mysql.com. The impression I get from the .org site, is that they are promoting a product called MySQL, and that MySQL AB (found at mysql.com) is a different product all together. This, is in my opinion is simply not on. I have been using MySQL for many years and I am now wondering if there actually is a difference between MySQL and MySQL AB simply because mysql.org are implying such a fact. Their web site is also giving me the impression that they are responsible for the development of MySQL.I know Nusphere have given both time and money to the development of MySQL but I really don't think it quite justifies building a web site with the intention of deceiving users that may not know the full history of MySQL. I'm no lawyer but I would say that the content on mysql.org is very misleading and should be changed, pronto. Another thing that concerns me greatly, is that almost every page on mysql.org contains the word free. Too much use of the word free, to me, sends "big time" warning signals. Inserting Date Formats ??
Hi, I have a date in a string like so "May 02, 2001 09:15:57" and this date is not a standard MySQL date and so it wont insert correctly. My question is this, is there a function to convert the date to something that MySQL can understand or do I have to convert it manualy? Thanks in advance. Re: DROP COLUMN
Werner, Your syntax is correct and valid for MySQL. The problem could lie with your ODBC driver. What version are you on? Try downloading a utility for administering MySQL. UrbSQL is good from www.urbanresearch.com and see if that can drop the column. Good luck. Re: Virus Alert - For Your Info.
Guys, I know it's off topic but this virus seems to be spreading quite violently, I've had to remove from one of our clients machines this morning. If you become infected with it, it's a simple remove procedure. 1. Remove the reference to OnTheFly in the registry, look for the text VBS and WORM within the key to make sure you've got the right key. 2. Delete the file annakournikova.jpg.vbs from C:\$windir. That should do it. Outlook Express users might be lucky in that it may not send itself to all address book entries, but I can't guarantee it. The best avoidance is not to open the damn thing at all just delete it, but its easier said than done. Hope this helps Andy Woolley www.databasewatch.com - Original Message - From: "William R.
