EXISTS/NOT EXISTS
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to apply these from the manual, but to no avail. Is it possible that my version (4.0.18) does not implement these? I have two tables: products and products_by_product_area. Both have a field product. I try SELECT product from products WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT DISTINCT * from products_by_product_areas WHERE products_by_product_areas.product = products.product); Both of these queries run fine on their own. It looks to me that I'm simply adapting from the manual, but all I get is ERROR 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'EXISTS (SELECT DISTINCT * from products_by_product_areas WHERE OK, so I grab the example verbatim from the manual: SELECT DISTINCT store_type FROM Stores WHERE EXISTS (SELECT * FROM Cities_Stores WHERE Cities_Stores.store_type = Stores.store_type); And run it. Same error. Never mind that I don't have these tables: the query does not compile. What is going on?

MySQL not connecting over 110
Hallo I cant use phpMyAdmin, or any of my other (php) pages as I get the error cannot connect to MySQL via 110 (111) I had this in the past and what I did then was to check if mysql.sock was in the temp directory (or a link to it) I do see it there now but I cant seem to get any connection to MySQL, I have my.cnf file in /etc and all the settings there point to the correct locations, I have also checked my php.ini file and that also seems fine. It all worked fine before but now it does not - I have even rebooted the machine. I know this is not a lot to work from so if you need any more info to assist me let me know what to supply. RE: storing files in mySQL
Why not rather have pointers to the files on a directory and store this in a db field ? Saves you a lot of DB space ? Ant -Original Message- From: Dang Nguyen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 04 March 2002 09:05 To: Mysql List (E-mail) Subject: storing files in mySQL Hi everyone, I'd like to know how to load files, such as MS-Word documents or PDF documents, in a mySQL database. I've setup a blob type in a table, but where do I go from there? The purpose of this is to store files uploaded from a web page and processed with Java servlets. Order of input into db
Hallo Is there a way to set the order in which data gets placed into the db? I have a form with ten rows (input fields) they are labeled name[1], name[2],name[3],name[4] I then use a for statement incrementing $i up to 10 i.e name[$1] this loop contains my query (INSERT INTO DB...) but if I check my database I see that for example row 3 is at the top, followed by 1 then 2 and then 4 - this makes no sense to me , should it not go from 1 - insert it - go to the next row 2 - insert it, and so on. This might be more a PHP thing but is there any way to order inputs into a DB from a list of records ? First, I must solicit your confidence in this transaction. This is by virtue of its nature as being utterly confidential and top secret. You have been recommended by an associate who assured me in confidence of your ability and reliability to prosecute a transaction of great magnitude involving a pending business transaction requiring maximum confidence. We are top officials of the Federal Government Contract Review Panel who are interested in importation of goods into our country with funds which are presently trapped in Nigeria. In order to commence this business we solicit your assistance to enable us RECIEVE the said trapped funds ABROAD. The source of this fund is as follows : During the regime of our late head of state, Gen. Sani Abacha, the government officials set up companies and awarded themselves contracts which were grossly over- invoiced in various Ministries. The NEW CIVILIAN Government set up a Contract Review Panel (C.R.P) and we have identified a lot of inflated contract funds which are presently floating in the Central Bank of Nigeria (C.B.N). However, due to our position as civil servants and members of this panel, we cannot acquire this money in our names. I have therefore, been delegated as a matter of trust by my colleagues of the panel to look for an Overseas partner INTO whose ACCOUNT the sum of US$31,000,000.00 (Thirty one Million United States Dollars) WILL BE PAID BY TELEGRAPHIC TRANSFER. Hence we are writing you this letter. We have agreed to share the money thus: 1. 70% for us (the officials) 2. 20% for the FOREIGN PARTNER (you) 3. 10% to be used in settling taxation and all local and foreign expenses. It is from this 70% that we wish to commence the importation business. Please note that this transaction is 100% safe and we hope THAT THE FUNDS CAN ARRIVE YOUR ACCOUNT in latest ten (10) banking days from the date of reciept of the following information by TEL/FAX: 234-1-7742913: A SUITABLE NAME AND BANK ACCOUNT INTO WHICH THE FUNDS CAN BE PAID. The above information will enable us write letters of claim and job description respectively. This way we will use your company's name to apply for payments and re-award the contract in your company name. We are looking forward to doing business with you and solicit your confidentiality in this transaction. Counting up numerical values in a table
I am trying to add floating point numbers, and also plain numerical values, - I have looked on mysql.com but I only seem to find stuff that relate to counting rows of a certain defined value - like count where something = something, but I want to say give me a numerical total value for a column (that contains numerical values) where the id = 123456. Then it must count up the numerical values in that column where all the id's are equal to 123456 (or whatever value the id is) - I dont want to get a count of the rows that relates to the id - I want the value. mysql_select_db() returns CR_COMMANDS_OUT_OF_SYNC
Hi all, I am trying to optimize my database tables at midnight, using winnt, delphi, and libmysql.dll. I want to execute a sequence like: mysql_select_db(sql, some_database); mysql_query(sql, 'OPTIMIZE TABLE MyTable'); mysql_select_db(sql, another_database);// error mysql_query(sql, 'OPTIMIZE TABLE MyTable'); . . . But the second call to mysql_select_db returns an error (commands out of sync). Why? After successfull optimization, are there any reasons for not changing the selected database? RE: Date interval problem
hello list, Michael Thygs is right, but the expression can be simplified. We have to assume that all dates are in correct order, i. e. for each date pair the following relation is true: from date = to date When a date range from tab1 does NOT overlap a date range from tab2, then the tab1 range is either entirely before or entirely after the tab 2 range. tab1 entirely before tab2 can be expressed by: tab1.date_to tab2.date_from and it is not necessary to test tab1.date_from tab2.date_from because tab1.date_from should be = date1.date_to. Similariy, tab1 entirely after tab2 can be expressed by: tab1.date_from tab2.date_to For the WHERE clause, we have to exclude both these cases (I do this here by inverting the relationship and ANDing the two expressions): WHERE (tab1.date_to = tab2.date_from) and (tab1.date_from = tab2.date_to) AFAIK, this should result in all overlapping date ranges being selected. -Original Message- From: Michael Thygs [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, October 05, 2001 1:29 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: AW: Date interval problem Hello Bruno, its a little bit complicated. You have to put a little bit of brain in it! The situation you ask for is: tab2.interval --- possible intervals of table 1, which should be displayed are: 1.--- 2.-- 3. -- 4. --- Now you have to write four parts of where-clauses which describe each of this situtation and you have to connect them with an OR select * from tab1, tab2 where (where clause for situation 1) OR (where clause for situation 1) OR ... and the where clauses look like this (situation 1): (tab1.date_from = tab2.date_from AND tab1.date_from = tab2.date_to) AND (tab1.date_to = tab1.date_from AND tab1.date_to = tab2.dat_from) and so on with situation 2,3 and 4. Maybe it isn´t a efficient way, but it should be possible. Greetings Michael PS: Don´t forget the brakets -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Bruno Grampa [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Gesendet: Freitag, 5. full-text search problem
Hi, I have problems with full-text search. My table contains text lines from computer-generated log files rather than documents written by humans, and so my first problem is that I need an exact match rather than a relevance value, i. e. if the search string is 'ai', I really need all rows containing 'ai' to appear in the result, even if this includes 99 % of all rows. Also, I would need to switch between 'case-sensitivity yes/no' and 'search for whole words only yes/no'. Currently, I load all rows to the client and do the search on the client. Is there, or will there be, a way to do this kind of text search on the server? thanks in advance Anton Tichawa - Before posting, please check: http://www.mysql.com/manual.php (the manual) http://lists.mysql.com/ (the list archive) To request this thread, e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] Trouble unsubscribing?
