 MySQL is awesome, but I think I found a bug.

 The following script:

 CREATE  TABLE X1 (x smallint);
 insert into X1 values(5);
 RENAME TABLE X1 TO X2;

 is producing the following error:

 7 - Error on rename '.\db\X1.MY1' to '.\db\X2.MYI' (Errcode: 13)

 The problem seems to be caused by using uppercase table names. The problem
 does not happen when the table names are all lowercase.

 MySQL version: 3.23.47-nt
 Running on Windows 2000 Pro

I am afraid it's not a bug, rather a syntax error.
please follow the syntax to rename the table:

mysql alter table X1 rename as X2;

MySQL - row,table level locking?

2002-02-03 Thread SubbaReddy M

Hello Guru,

I am web programmer using PERL, MySQL.
I need help from you, could you please clarify my doubt?

1. How many methods or functions in PERL-DBI/DBD module
will actually will get communicates with MySQL?

I know one that's $sth-fecth() or $sth-fetchArrayref() after
$sth-execute();  where $sth = $dbi-open(dbi:mysql:...);

2. Is it possible to Row level lock and Table level lock in MySQL, if yes,
How could we achieve this
in PERL-DBI ?

Please, kindly clarify.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Urgent Help needed

2002-01-30 Thread SubbaReddy M
 was specified explicitly.)
With the C API function mysql_info(), you can find out how many records were
copied, and (when IGNORE is used) how many records were deleted due to
duplication of unique key values.
The FOREIGN KEY, CHECK and REFERENCES clauses don't actually do anything.
The syntax for them is provided only for compatibility, to make it easier to
port code from other SQL servers and to run applications that create tables
with references. See section 5.3 Functionality missing from MySQL.
Here is an example that shows some of the uses of ALTER TABLE. We begin with
a table t1 that is created as shown below:

mysql CREATE TABLE t1 (a INTEGER,b CHAR(10));

To rename the table from t1 to t2:

mysql ALTER TABLE t1 RENAME t2;

To change column a from INTEGER to TINYINT NOT NULL (leaving the name the
same), and to change column b from CHAR(10) to CHAR(20) as well as renaming
it from b to c:

mysql ALTER TABLE t2 MODIFY a TINYINT NOT NULL, CHANGE b c CHAR(20);

To add a new TIMESTAMP column named d:

mysql ALTER TABLE t2 ADD d TIMESTAMP;

To add an index on column d, and make column a the primary key:

mysql ALTER TABLE t2 ADD INDEX (d), ADD PRIMARY KEY (a);

To remove column c:

mysql ALTER TABLE t2 DROP COLUMN c;

To add a new AUTO_INCREMENT integer column named c:

mysql ALTER TABLE t2 ADD c INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
   ADD INDEX (c);

Note that we indexed c, because AUTO_INCREMENT columns must be indexed, and
also that we declare c as NOT NULL, because indexed columns cannot be NULL.

When you add an AUTO_INCREMENT column, column values are filled in with
sequence numbers for you automatically.

Best of luck.

unable to run the mysql server on Start up on Solaris?

2001-12-23 Thread SubbaReddy M

Hello Gurus,

I have installed the mysql-3.22 on Solaris(Intel) and when I execute the
bin/safe_mysqld --user=mysql
and support-files/mysql.server start
successfully, runing the server and able to enter in mysql client.

So, hold on startup as per support-files/mysql.server script document
mysql.server file is copied into /etc/init.d
and created link file in /etc/rc3.d/S99mysql

and restarted system, but not find running the mysql server at start up.
So, I manually invoked the support-files/mysql.server start
and then working with.

Please, sugest me to run at start up.

Thanks in advance
and wish you happy Christmas and happy new year 2002

Amazing, zero length files in mysql install kit !!

2001-12-23 Thread SubbaReddy M

Hello mysql team,
I have downloaded the following mysql kit to install on Solaris (intel) and
gtar-i386.gz

http://www.mysql.com/Downloads/MySQL-3.23/mysql-3.23.39-pc-solaris2.8-i386.t
ar.gz
http://www.mysql.com/Downloads/MySQL-3.23/gtar-i386.gz

and then done gzip -cd mysql-3.23.39-pc-solaris2.8-i386.tar.gz |gtar-i386
xvf -
great, got unziped files.

And then tried to install
% scripts/mysql_install_db
%

Nothing got.
Then tried to run % mysql
just core dump.

So, check the file ls -l scripts/mysql_install_db
great,   0 (zero) length file.

Similarly, in support-files/mysql.server file also 0 (zero) length file.

Please, update the kit.

So, now i am continuening with mysql-3.22 on solaris.
it's working fine.
