Which way was the old version installed?
Why not remove the old version with the control panel - software?

no idea, not using windows-crap since 2006 with the exception of

get a real operating system :-)

Re: Install error on fedora Core3

2005-09-02 Thread Gleb Paharenko
Hello.

Trying to upgrade MySQL from 3.23 to 4.0.16 on a new fedora core3

If you have a fresh installation, it is much better to use a latest

release (4.1.14 now).

 050901 17:33:34 [ERROR] Can't create interrupt-thread (error 13, errno:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] gleb]$ perror 13

Are you installing MySQL as root? SELinux might prohibit

the installation as well.

 Installation of system tables failed!

Examine the logs in /var/lib/mysql for more information.

You can also try to start the mysqld daemon with:

 /usr/sbin/mysqld --skip-grant

You can use the command line tool

/usr/bin/mysql to connect to the mysql

database and look at the grant tables:

 shell /usr/bin/mysql -u root mysql

 mysql show tables

Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log

gives you a log in /var/lib/mysql that may be helpful.

The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at

 http://www.mysql.com

Please consult the MySQL manual section: 'Problems running

 mysql_install_db',

and the manual section that describes problems on your OS.

Another information source is the MySQL email archive.

Please check all of the above before mailing us!

And if you do mail us, you MUST use the /usr/bin/mysqlbug script!

Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it???

 Thanks,

Hello.

Not enough information to make a conclusion. Please, send us information

about MySQL and operating system versions. What value does your environment

variable TMPDIR have?

[snip]

I am having a problem starting up mysql.

I am unable to run the mysql_install_db routine. When I run it I keep getting
the error -

unable to write to /tmp/root/...

Originally I got the error unable to write to /tmp but that has since changed
to the first

 error.

I'm not a newbee to IT or Linux. I tried chmod to change rights but that
doesn't work. I'm

 forgetting something.

 Help.

Hi!

The above is a frequent error on Solaris and our manual finely
documents how to circumvent it.

However, I would recommend you to download our binary for SPARC
Solaris 2.8 as they are regularly built.

It is possible, but not that easy, to make the binaries of the same
quality that we obtain. Using our binary, you will be much safer.
