mysql not starting

MYSQL not starting
Hi,
I am using MYSQL 4.1. But since yesterday I am not able to start the mysqld
daemon.
I am receiving these errors in /var/lib/mysql/*.err
060301 14:32:08 mysqld started
060301 14:32:08 [Warning] Asked for 196608 thread stack, but got 126976
InnoDB: Error: pthread_create returned 11
060301 14:32:08 mysqld ended
And when I scroll through /var/log/messages I get these :

Can some one please help on an urgent basis as my neck is hanging as I was
performing the backup when all this screw up took place. Till date I do not
have any backup of mysql.

Ya it was a problem of SELinux but i had to turn it off from GUI not from
CUI(system-config-securitylevel).
It really did worked.

new insallation of mysql not starting
I have just upgraded a mySQL installation on a Soalri 2.8 box for the source. It compiled and installed without error. The startup script redirect STDOUT STDERR into /dev/null so this is what I did ... /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --datadir=/data/mysql-data/ --pid-file=/data/mysql-data/mysql.pid Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /data/mysql-data/ STOPPING server from pid file /data/mysql-data/romulus.pid 050429 11:19:13 mysqld ended Anyone have any ideas what the code 050429 means? Are you able to start MySQL server by this command? service mysqld start I think you should put the correct values for the basedir, datadir, PATH variables at the beginning of the /etc/init.d/mysql file. Hi All, attempting another mysql install, on a 3rd machine. Extracted the tar.gz file to /usr/local/mysql. Followed the install docs here, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/installing-binary.html and successfully ran the MySql grant tables script, 6. If you haven't installed MySQL before, you must create the MySQL grant tables: shell scripts/mysql_install_db --user=mysql I then followed here, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/automatic-start.html to a T, and copied mysql.server to /etc/init.d, and just for good measure, gave it permission to execute, chmod +x /etc/init.d/mysql I then rebooted, to see how things would go at boot, and saw a failed message for mysqld_safe, Apr 16 21:20:01 localhost lsb_log_message: Can't execute ./bin/mysqld_safe failed Can anyone explain why it wouldn't start..? Anything I should be looking for..? I can start the server with ./mysqld_safe from within the bin dir and I can connect as root or mysql. Hi Try to see in the log files cat /var/log/mysqld or start the mysql server and then type tail /var/log/messages On Fedora, once you have properly installed mysql there is no need to reboot your system to test it. Just type /sbin/service mysql start other options you can use there: stop restart I have a MySql server on one of my machines that is running FC3 and I don't even have mysql_safe here. below is my /etc/init.d/mysql content, but, mysql is not starting at
boot on Fedora3. Have I missed something fundamental.? I need mysql to
start at boot for snort to connect to it. Currently, snort gives an

To have mysql to start at boot you need to inform the inetd (daemon) that
mysql should be launched at one of the 6 levels:
Use chkconfig to have mysql start in one of the level (2,3,4,5,6)
5 being X windows.
There are two ways to check that mysql will be loaded:
- 1 - by checking the file in /etc/rc.d/rcX.d (X being a number: 1,2,3,4,5,6)
- 2 - by executing chkconfig
execute the following to see if mysql runs at any level
/sbin/chkconfig --list | grep mysql
you should see at which level mysql is running.
mysql 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
If it is all off then execute:
/sbin/chkconfig --level 2345 mysql on
(this will make sure that mysql runs at level 2, 3, 4 and 5)
On my machine (Fedora 2) it runs at 2,3,4 and 5.
Once you have it run at a level you can verify it by looking at rcX.d (X being
a level):
for example to check that it runs at level 4:
go to /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/
and look at a file named ...mysql
S20mysql
(S means it will be picked up by the inetd daemon)
K30mysql
(K means Kill and mysql wont start)

MySQL not starting
I recently installed 3.23.52 on a server and everything went fine throughout the configuration and install. The server started fine and has been running flawlessly for the past 3 months. However, I needed to reboot the system this morning and MySQL wouldn't start back up. I have tried using both ./safe_mysqld and ./mysqld without any reults. The installation directory is /usr/local/mysql-3.23.52-pc-linux-gnu-i686 and /usr/local/mysql is a link to the installation directory. Does mysql own /usr/local/mysql and all its subdirectories and files? Another line says ./mysqld: Can't change dir to '/usr/local/mysql-3.23.52-pc-linux-gnu-i686/var/' (Errcode: 2) Error 2 means that the directory doesn't exist. Does it? Does mysql own it and all its subdirectories and files? Why is one directory /usr/local/mysql and the other /usr/local/mysql-3.23.52-pc-linux-gnu-i686 ? 2 mysql daemons starting - both with different configs
Hi, I have copied the file ./support-files/mysql.server to /etc/init.d/mysql_server. I have edited the /etc/init.d/mysql_server to set the basedir to /usr/local/mysql and the datadir to /usr/local/mysql/var When I compiled mysql I set the --with-mysqld-user=mysqldba flag. I run (as root) /etc/init.d/mysql_server start I see $ ps -ef | grep mysql mysqldba 20884 20719 0 11:55:31 pts/10:00 -ksh mysqldba 20880 20865 0 11:55:11 pts/10:00 /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysqld - -basedir=/usr/local/mysql --datadir=/usr/local root 20865 1 0 11:55:11 pts/10:00 /bin/sh /usr/local/mysql/bin/safe _mysqld --datadir=/usr/local/mysql/var --pid-f $ as you can see the the parent (safe_mysqld) sets --datadir=/usr/local/mysql/var (correct) however the children processe owned by mysqldba sets datadir=/usr/local/ (why not /usr/local/mysql/var ) My Questions are.. Why is the root processes of mysql not owned by mysqldba ? do I need to add an su - mysqldba at the start of the mysql_server script ? why is mysqld setting --datadir=/usr/locl when the script sets datadir=/usr/local/mysql/var ? Why is the root processes of mysql not owned by mysqldba ? do I need to add an su - mysqldba at the start of the mysql_server script ? root starts safe_mysqld, which starts mysqld, which switches its user ID to mysqldba. safe_mysqld doesn't changed its ID, which is why it shows up as root. why is mysqld setting --datadir=/usr/locl when the script sets datadir=/usr/local/mysql/var ? I suspect what you're seeing is simply an artifact of ps chopping off output lines. The full command probably is a little different. MySQL not starting ?
All- Good afternoon. I was able to get MySQL started this morning but it will not start now. I'm hoping someone may be able to offer a suggestion or insight... Normally, I issue the command: [root@localhost root]# safe_mysqld -user=root [1] 1781 [root@localhost root]# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql 020614 02:09:36 mysqld ended Normally, I am then able to log in by: [root@localhost root]# mysql -u root -p Enter password: ...but mysqld is ending so I'm not able to. I went to /var/lib/mysql looked at localhost.localdomain.err. mysql not starting
I installed Mysql using the Apachetoolbox. Everything installed correctly, but when linux boots, mysqld starts, and stops immediately. I checked out the docs, and tried using ./safe_mysqld --skip-grant-tables which starts to load mysql, but then hangs, causing me to reboot. I ran mysql_install_db which worked fine, but I was never able to setup root password or anything like that since mysql wont run for me. I have tried running ./safe_mysqld --user=mysql and all the variations with no luck (I tried this at the beginning) Any ideas? I had the same problem on with Red Hat 7 using mysql-3.23.33. I installed from RPM and source. Never could get the darn thing working. I just scrapped .33 and downloaded .36. Works like a charm now.
