BTW: Mandrake 8.0 also offers these. Other than that I really like Mandrake
a lot, I'd also say that RedHat is somewhat nice. I'd take Mandrake,
though.

Re: which the best

Hands down, your best bet is either Linux versions. You will get the best
stability, speed, and cost effectiveness by using these databases. Stay
away from Windows for this kind of thing. I have developed software for
the Windows platform since it first came out, and have been a software
engineer for 23 years. I don't dislike Windows, but for some things it is
just not as good as a Unix platform, and this is one of those cases. Linux
is a superior platform.

Re: which the best

2001-06-06 Thread PROVVISORIO

I'd go for Linux Red Hat 7.1. High reliability, wonderful stability. We did it, and it
still
works perfectly (Linux Red Hat 6.2 to 7.1 + MySQL 3.23.22 to 3.23.37). The right
enviroment for
MySQL based applications (and if You're thinking of web applications, go for Linux Red
Hat 7.1
+ MySQL 3.23.38 + Apache 1.3.19 + PHP4pl5).

Avoid NT 'cause of "reboot" issue when installing protocols or changing configuration.

Just my 2c$

You're right.. wrong place to ask.

I don't want to start a kind of religious war.. but I wouldn't go for M$
products.

Further good reading on this is presented in this lists archive.

Re: which the best

I'm not getting into any OS wars here, but just to say I chose a unix based
system due Microsoft's poor record with stability. I need something that I
can rely on to stay up and running and Windoze doesn't fall into that
category.

Re: which the best

2001-06-05 Thread Tirumala R Bokka

Hi,

My personal choice would be either Red Hat Linux 7.1
or
Mandrake Linux 8.0 (or another Linux distro.)
Here are some of the reasons: reliability,
high-performance, secure, open, free, and the freedom
it gives (in a lot of ways.) These properties apply
not only for running MySQL, but any other application!

Linux Rocks! Go for it!!
