[mythtv-users] Upgrade to 0.18 / 7174 Problem
All at once, I decided to upgrade to 0.18 and do a dist-upgrade on my FC3 system. That upgraded many things (over 150 updates), including my nvidia drivers (from 6629 to 7174). Immediately after doing this, I had quite a few problems. Most of the problems were due to the new packaging layout at atrpms. One wasn't. Whenever I tried to go to the previously-recorded programs screen, the frontend would freeze, X would take up 99.7+% CPU time, and all would stay like that until killed. I got errors like: Apr 22 22:14:37 mythbox kernel: NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7174 Tue Mar 22 06:44:39 PST 2005 Apr 22 22:14:37 mythbox kernel: NVRM: not using NVAGP, an AGPGART backend is loaded! Apr 22 22:14:37 mythbox kernel: NVRM: not using NVAGP, an AGPGART backend is loaded! which suggested an agp driver problem (though I didn't change kernels and wasn't getting these errors with the same xorg.conf) and Apr 23 00:42:22 mythbox kernel: irq 9: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option. Mythfrontend and backend where curiously silent about a problem that only seemed to crop up while accessing the recorded programs screen. Realizing that I could playback things using xine and mplayer, and that I could watch livetv, it seemed like there could be a problem with accessing the database to display information on the saved programs. But dropping the database and starting from scratch didn't help. So, all my google searches were for naught. Nothing helped in the least. Just for kicks, I started re-reading Jarod's guide, to see if there was something that I might have to reset after doing a dist-upgrade. While doing so, I noticed an interesting thing: Not sure exactly what has changed in the nvidia driver, but most folks no longer seem to be able to use the RenderAccel line without having problems. However, I'm not sure what added benefit it provides anymore, since contrary to my earlier belief, it isn't necessary for me to use XvMC... With 6629, I didn't have any problems with it on any of my motherboards with VIA chipset or nVidia's own nForce2 chipset, none of which play nice with RenderAccel enabled anymore, but it doesn't seem to make any difference, I can still play back even HDTV video just fine without it. << And what do you know - commenting out that line in my xorg.conf solved the problem right away. For what ever reason, having RenderAccel on didn't affect my ability to play back video at all, unless I was trying to access that one screen. So, the short version: 7174 and RenderAccel don't seem to play nice on the Chaintech 7NIF2's built-in graphics card. Now that it's working, I'm off to have fun with 0.18! [mythtv-users] 2 EPG entries for channels sharing a frequency
Hi, Many of the channels on my cable subscription are split between two channels - e.g. Nickelodeon and MTV. The ripped program data treats each channel separately even though they by definition never overlap. As a result in the EPG I end up with two rows with one or the other marked as being "unknown". As I browse channels I likewise have to switch past the same program twice as it occupies two channel numbers too. Are there any ways to adjust for this in mythtv, or should I be trying to pre-process the grabbed info? I see only one character for each schedule and the priority column is also corrupted. I tried with QT 3.3.3 and 3.3.4. Any hints? You are using an outdated theme. A column was added to show the record type sometime after 0.16. If you are using a 0.16 theme it would appear as you describe and other pages that have changed would have more subtle problems or missing info. Thanks for the info. This seems to be an atrpms issue. I have forwarded this to the atrpms list. I don't think so, the themes ATrpms packages are for 0.18, not 0.16. And as I understand Bruce that would already have bitten 0.17 users, and there weren't any reports on that. Then why are GANT and Blue on FC3 OK and Titivillus is OK on Suse? Something must be wrong with the FC3 Titivillus. Also, on Suse, I have a little arrow left of the text in the main menu with Titivillus. I don't have this on FC3. Frames * will be skipped in order to keep the audio and * video in sync. You likely won't get any video. Indeed I do not get video and I don't get sound. I've set up MythTV to use /dev/vl4/video0 on a Gentoo machine. Is this correct or probably wrong? I can record from that device at the command line and I get mpeg video that mplayer can play. I also tried: dragonfly ~ # xvinfo X-Video Extension version 2.2 screen #0 no adaptors present dragonfly ~ # Does this mean my graphics adapter cannot do X-Video at all? Is X-Video totally required for Myth even when mplayer can play the files just fine? I'm confused! thanks in advance, Mark ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

On top of all that, this is a "live-only" feature. Since if you just wanted to watch both at different times you would just record both, then watch them serially or interspersed, probably watching one of them at 2x fast forward, for example. However, it's actually not that difficult to do -- in fact you can do it yourself, without changes to myth, though you will have some intersting focus problems. Step 1: Record both programs, and start watching in near-live the one that you want to fill most of the screen. Yes, you need two tuners of course to record 2 shows at once. Step 2: Find the file of the other program in live recording. This is not to hard with ls -l, but mythlink.pl in the contrib directory can let you find it easily. Invoke "mplayer -vf crop= -vo x11 file.nuv" Run this mplayer window on top of your mythtv playing window. Move it into position. Want to get fancy? Tell myth to run the video in an X window you can resize. There's a checkbox in setup for that. Then you can shrink the main window so you can see all of it, and then move in your cropped window with the crawl. Be sure to use the -vo x11. This takes much more CPU than normal xv, but you can only have one xv at a time, and you want that for your main window. You may want to add a scale= filter as well to size your crawl window the way you like it. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Something similar to the decss code for DVD decoding. Illegal in some > places but still generally available. You can't really "emulate" the handshake per se, it's based on cryptographic keys and certified digital signatures I believe, with a fancy key revocation system. You might be able to get into the chips in compliant TVs and PVRs and extract the keys. It's a lot less likely (though not impossible) that the cryptotsystem itself might be cracked, as was the case for CSS in DVDs. But CSS was a pretty weak cryptosystem. In the words of the CSS folks when it was cracked, "We were surprised it took this long." If you extract the keys and you put that in a published module, they will revoke the keys, they say. If you crack the system then they can't stop you so easily. There may be other flaws in their system, of course, we'll only see once it gets subject to lots of attack. As you suggest, use of either a hole in the system or a cracked key would probably violate the law in the USA. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I have a creative soundblaster live 5.1 card and always allowed FC3 to make my default modifications in /etc/modprobe.conf which was this: alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1 options snd-card-0 index=0 install snd-emu10k1 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-emu10k1 && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || : remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-emu10k1 Although I always had sound and was able to raw out via spdif to my receiver and got full surround I always had an issue where some MP3's would play with a 'muddy' sound. I ignored it for a while (didn't really bother me that much). Wanting to do a little bragging to my co-workers that live in Windows SageTV land I wanted to get some nice printscreens of Myth. I ran a VNC session to my laptop (forgetting that Myth was set to autolaunch on any KDE session ) POOF audio went bye-bye. It took me forever to get it back dinking with alsamixer etc... (I to this day don't know what I did to get it back). Well being the type of person to not leave well enough alone I did the VNC session again - bad decision at first, but paid off in the long run. Luckily I never could get sound back which lead me in this direction. I remarked out those modprobe.conf settings above and let alsaconf make the modifications. I then referenced http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=emu10k1 and made some mods they suggested. I am S-O-O-O-O-O glad I did. Not only did sound come back it is a hell of a lot better sounding now and the MP3 muddy sound has vanished from those suspect MP3s. This is my new modprobe.conf settings for the soundblaster live: alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1 alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1 options snd-card-0 index=0 extin="0x3fc3" extout="0x1fff" Regg ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Yeah, so, in general "delete from " is a little nicer than "drop table ". :) Try this: CREATE TABLE `oldrecorded` ( `chanid` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `starttime` datetime NOT NULL default '-00-00 00:00:00', `endtime` datetime NOT NULL default '-00-00 00:00:00', `title` varchar(128) NOT NULL default '', `subtitle` varchar(128) NOT NULL default '', `description` text NOT NULL, `category` varchar(64) NOT NULL default '', `seriesid` varchar(12) NOT NULL default '', `programid` varchar(20) NOT NULL default '', `findid` int(11) NOT NULL default '0', `recordid` int(11) NOT NULL default '0', PRIMARY KEY (`chanid`,`starttime`), KEY `endtime` (`endtime`), KEY `title` (`title`), KEY `seriesid` (`seriesid`), KEY `programid` (`programid`), KEY `recordid` (`recordid`), KEY `recordid_2` (`recordid`), KEY `recordid_3` (`recordid`) ) TYPE=MyISAM; For future reference, I got this by running mysqldump. [mythtv-users] Recovering from "drop oldrecorded" ?
Hello, I was trying to restore my oldrecorded programs backup file into a fresh mythconverg database. Things went horribly wrong, so I thought I'd start over on the oldrecorded tables and just dropped it using mysql. I'm stuck now without the "oldrecorded" table and I'm still unable to either create the table or restore the data to it with my backup. I have a good backup of the oldrecorded table but can't figure out how to either restore or recreate it with the backup file. If someone could offer me some assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Re: [mythtv-users] MythTV - PVR-250 - some newbie questions
Though you aren't using Fedora, check out http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/ for a lot of handy debugging tips (i.e. why you aren't getting any video, how to change the channel without mythtv, etc). Your .NUV files from a PVR-250 should be around 2 GB an hour. The raw video files you are recording via command line look too small to be real video files, and the files you are recording with myth are too big to be MPEG2 encoded. Have you tried running "mythtvsetup" to set up your PVR-250 as an input? Finally, don't try to stress yourself by saying stuff like, "I have to get this working by XXX so I can record it." MythTV takes time, a lot of time when you first start out. It took me three months to get all the kinks out. Most of us do it for fun in our spare time, but if it's stressing you out, then what's the point? One useful thing that takes the pressure off is to have a dual-boot configuration with a small windows partition. It's not too hard to set up (install windows first, then linux). That way, if there's something you really want to record when MythTV is not functional yet, and you've already thrown away your VCR, you can always use the lame WinTV PC software. And, as hard as this is for me to say as a diehard Mac and Linux user, having a PC partition is occassionally pretty useful. Final word of unrelated advice: for your partitions, partimage+knoppix is your friend. Especially if you're using Gentoo and you have to compile everything everytime you start from scratch. e On 4/23/05, Mark Knecht <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi, >I'm in the process of setting up a PVR-250 to use MythTV. [mythtv-users] MythTV - PVR-250 - some newbie questions
Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a PVR-250 to use MythTV. I've not used the application before today but I must say I'm very impressed so far. For the most part the info on the web to get things set up is pretty good. I've made it a long ways with a bit of help from Gentoo-Users. I have managed to record some video although so far I cannot view any of it. (Big problem, 'eh?) ;-) Anyway, this is my first post here and hopefully it will help me make some forward progress. Thanks in advance. The PVR is installed and I am able to record video from the command line using the following set of commands: ivtvctl -u 0x3000 ivtvctl -p 4 ivtvctl -f width=720,height=480 ivtvctl -v input=3,output=1 cat /dev/video0 >test.mpg mplayer test.mpg The video and audio quality looks good when I do that. I haven't figured out channel tuning though. File size is small and the output does appear to be mpeg. mplayer is happy with the data. I have attempted to read through the guide here: (very good BTW) http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html#toc11 as well as use the Gentoo docs here: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_MythTV but didn't find answers to the questions that follow: TODAY's GOAL: Record Saturday Night Live tonight. (About 10 hours from now.) ;-) 1) The system is using the PVR-250. I've set up a ZapIt account and I seem to be getting good cable guide info. Right programs, right channels, etc. 2) I've managed to record some video. It's currently going into a private partition called /TVstorage. However when I try to watch this recorded program MythTV first goes to a black screen and then pretty immediately comes back to the main screen. I see no video. 3) If I record for 10 minutes I see this in /TVstorage: [EMAIL PROTECTED] /TVstorage $ ls -aCs total 7435740 4 . 7435728 1009_20050423124000_20050423125000.nuv0 nfslockfile.lock 4 ..4 log [EMAIL PROTECTED] /TVstorage $ So 10 minutes of recording took up about 7.6GB. This seems to me that I'm getting raw video data and not the output of the PVR-250's mpeg encoder? Is this true? 4) If I am getting raw data how do I get the output of the encoder instead? This amount of disk space will kill me and if it was an mpeg file I could try watching it with other apps also. 5) Can this *.nuv file be converted to mpeg so that I can see if there's real video/audio there? 6) I'm seeing some messages I don't like in the log file: 2005-04-23 12:49:55.299 IOBOUND - blocking in ThreadedFileWriter::Write() 2005-04-23 12:49:56.801 IOBOUND - blocking in ThreadedFileWriter::Write() 2005-04-23 12:49:57.168 IOBOUND - blocking in ThreadedFileWriter::Write() 2005-04-23 12:49:58.303 IOBOUND - blocking in ThreadedFileWriter::Write() 2005-04-23 12:49:59.738 IOBOUND - blocking in ThreadedFileWriter::Write() 2005-04-23 12:50:00.126 Finished recording first test (Manual Record) on channel: 1009 2005-04-23 12:50:00.280 Changing from RecordingOnly to None Two things concern me: 1) IOBOUND - blocking in ThreadedFileWriter::Write() - What's this message about. This is the only app I've seen do this so far. The machine is a fairly new 3GHz Intel ox, but CPU usage was low at 10% when recording. DMA on the hard drive is enabled and throughput is pretty fast according to hdparm: dragonfly ~ # hdparm -tT /dev/hda /dev/hda: Timing cached reads: 2620 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1310.20 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 142 MB in 3.04 seconds = 46.75 MB/sec dragonfly ~ # 2) Did MythTV actually record in the correct channel? I was trying to record channel 9 (KQED tv) in the Bay Area from Comcast Cable. Does this message look correct? 2005-04-23 12:50:00.126 Finished recording first test (Manual Record) on channel: 1009 I'll stop there for now. Thanks in advance for any pointers you can give a new guy. Cheers, Mark ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] lay down pundit-r?
keep in mind that if you need to use any of the inputs in the front (SPDIF, PCMCIA, etc), the front door is difficult if not impossible to open when the pundit is lying flat on a surface. You might want to hang it over a ledge if you need to open the door. The other consideration, if you are using a hot processor, is that the ventilation may not be as good (not that the ventilation is all that good to begin with). There are holes on the "bottom" of the pundit (when standing upright) that are meant to draw cold air from outside, which then gets sucked upwards through the case by the CPU and PSU fans. If you are using a 7200 RPM hard drive, this could also get really hot (it's fairly warm when the pundit-r is upright), as it sits flush against what would be the bottom of the case if you laid it flat. - emory On 4/23/05, Xiaotian Sun <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On 4/23/05, Niels den Otter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Xiaotian, > > > > On Friday, 22 April 2005, Xiaotian Sun wrote: > > > This question may sound stupid. [mythtv-users] choppy audio/video in dark scenes
Hi, I have a problem where the audio (and video?) get's real choppy/stuttery. This consistently happens when the scene is particularly dark such as a black screen with light text. It happens in live TV as well as recorder shows. An example of this are the promos the Cartoon Network runs just before returning from commercial break during The Family Guy. Some commercials also have dark screens with white or light text. Some shows which are very dark, such as X-Files do it to a lesser degree. This mostly dark screen consistenly causes the playback to become very choppy. The audio is the most noticeable, but it could be the video, too. It's hard to tell since it's usually during a still scene. Does anyone know what may be causing this and if there is a fix? This is a really strange anomaly; intuitively it seems that a simple dark background with text would be less intensive than fast moving video. My system originally had 512mb ram, and I added 512mb more to see if that would help. I also read something about setting the recording profiles to 720*480, so I did that (they were 480*480 by default) and that helped some but not completely. Plus 720*480 takes up a lot of disk space, so I'd like to change that back if possible. The cpu usage is consistenly low (<10%?). Any help is appreciated. Will post logs or configs if necessary. I've looked at the troubleshooting guide. xawtv is fine, so I know the sblive card is working. If I mute the line input and set it to capture and run aplay /dev/dsp then I get delayed sound, as expected. What is really strange is that if I run xawtv with line in muted, and also run mythfrontend in live tv mode, after a short delay I get sound again. And I can pause live tv and when I unpause it the sound picks up where it should. so myth is getting the audio as it should. The only thing I can see in the backend logfile that might be relevant is NVR: Error, unknown audio codec Normally, this message only shows up when the recording profile settings are not correct. First make sure your database doesn't have errors "mysqlcheck -r -u mythtv -pmythtv mythconverg" then go to TV Settings->Recording Profiles and check the audio settings for each of the profiles. -- bjm ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Suggestion: Splicing channels.
I don't know what format captures from the software cards come in, but I'm assuming it's mostly a raw frame format (i.e. something like ARGB, where there's full information). This information is later compressed by MythTV into something that doesn't take as much space on the hard drive. You might be able to take advantage of this and strip away what you don't need. MPEG-2 is a different story though. If you can tell the capture card to capture only a certain screen region (as opposed to a screen size), then you might be okay. If you can't specify the screen region to capture, then you must parse every MPEG-2 packet, since any of them could contain a change to anywhere on the screen (unless the capture card is using I-frame striping, which somewhat alleviates this issue, as you'd be guaranteed that the changes are isolated to a strip of the screen, not the entire screen). I'm still learning about this stuff myself (it's my job), but I have the advantage of having hardware MPEG-2 encoding and decoding, with no processing needed. :) -- Joe --- Nicholas McCoy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Once you define the block you need, there really > shouldn't be any need > to decode any more of the video. [mythtv-users] Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C and mythtv
Hi, I'm trying to get Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C card to work with Mythtv 0.18. Mythtv setup is able to find my card but when I'm trying to scan channels the scanning process stops after the first signal lock has been found. Is there any way to proceed the scaning? Every time I find the first channel I have to press cancel to close the scanning window so I can't store any channel info. I have tried dvb-utils and I was able to generate channels.conf file using the scan util. So I think my card should work. Is it possible to use this channels.conf to insert channel data to the database? regards, JP _ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! Re: [mythtv-users] Suggestion: Splicing channels.
Once you define the block you need, there really shouldn't be any need to decode any more of the video. I'm not sure how much this could save, but it seems a waste to have the computer to struggle when I only want 10% of the video. In fact, for software encoders it shouldn't be encoded at all since there is little use for a non-live (or close to live) crawl. I've thought about this a bit, because I rely on a PVR 350 for my output. Perhaps it would be possible to play the crawl as an overlay like the on screen display. This would of course all have to be done in software. [mythtv-users] Tv out on Pvr350 used to work, but I broke it?
This is a long story, so I'll try to keep short. I had separate X servers running on my pc monitor and the Pvr350's tvout port (to connected tv). The GUI image was too large for the TV, so I tried to correct it. Most attempts didn't work, but they didn't hurt anything. After trying this suggestion: . Edit /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf and in the [server-Standard] section, change: command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -audit 0 to command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 100 -audit 0 .. From: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/109220?search_string=gdm.conf;#109220 , the pc locked up and had to be hard reset. After rebooting, xorg.conf and gdm.conf were both trashed (garbage throughout). I got xorg.conf restored from a backup, and got a clean (??) copy of gdm.conf from another pc. Now, I can run either server, but not both at the same time. Here are some symptoms: - Run X on pc monitor only, works and mythtv plays on pvr350 tvout port - Run X on pvr350 tvout, works and mythtv plays on tvout port - Run both from a clean boot, computer freezes (needs hard reset) But, if I do this, both work once. - Run X on pc monitor only - Play live tv on mythtv on on pvr350 tvout - Logout of X, turn both servers back on, startx again - X runs on both, but: - at startup the tv speaker buzzes - Tv shows the X session for a couple of seconds, goes blank - Move mouse over to Tv display, and X session is repainted wherever the mouse is moved. - Play live tv on pvr350 tvout, it works - Logout of X - Run X again, computer freezes Any suggestions on what to try? Thanks, Don PS - Here's part of the xorg.conf file. I turn the monitor and pvr350 on / off by commenting out the appropriate line(s) in the server layout section. Re: [mythtv-users] Suggestion: Splicing channels.
Part of it is who would care, but also, from a technical standpoint, it's very difficult to do. First of all, you need multiple inputs. So, you'd need two capture devices (one per channel). If you're using software capture, that requires a lot of CPU (about 1GHz per tuner, according to the official MythTV documentation). If you're using hardware MPEG-2 capture, that helps on the capture, but you still get screwed over on the playback. In order to playback that data though, you have to make a composite screen of the two sources, and that's where it gets tricky. I don't know the internal workings of the MythTV MPEG-2 playback engine, but I can say that it will require a fair amount of CPU to combine the streams (because processing has to be done on each stream to determine what parts to cut out and leave in). (Even if you have a PVR-350 for output, this part is required, because you have to feed a contiguous signal to the decoder, which means pre-processing in software). So, to do this, I'd say that you're looking at a minimum of a 2GHz machine (for all hardware encoding), and you'd be unable to use two tuners for anything else. Probably not worth it for the average person (heck, I'm a baseball junkie, and I get enough of it by just watching a game, and monitoring the ticker on the screen - I have yet to use PiP for that purpose). -- Joe --- Kyle Rose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Nicholas McCoy wrote: > > Well, the NFL draft is today and the folks on ESPN > are yakking on. > > Now, the most important information on that > channel is the bottom > > couple inches. Not to muddy the discussion, but what the hell... In general, it'd be great to be able to combine or select from among multiple inputs in some way more interesting than picture-in-picture. For example, the way I watch baseball is generally to turn on the TV, mute it, and then put on the radio broadcast, since the radio announcers are typically much better than the TV announcers. Unfortunately, this doesn't work out so well when one wants to synchronize the sources, as the TV will always be 3-4 seconds behind the radio broadcast. I can do something like this if I use MLB's Gameday Audio to listen, because I can insert almost any delay I want into that; but it's kinda ugly to have to do this when I could accomplish much the same thing with input selection and a radio tuner module. Anyway, I digress. Being able to grab the crawl (or, really, any fixed block) out of one recording and superimpose it over another recording would be neat, but I don't know how many people would care. No. Basically you're asking the computer to ship an MPEG2 stream over the PCI bus to the PVR-350, have the 350 decode it, have 350 ship the decoded video over to the video card***, and have the vid card display it. ***There's essentially no path from the 350 to vid card. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] HELP: audio has gone
I'm having problems with mythtv sound on a Terratec Cinergy card. The audio out from the card is connected to the line in on my sblive. The only thing I can see in the backend logfile that might be relevant is NVR: Error, unknown audio codec This was all working a couple of days ago - In the meantime tv_grab_nl has stopped working and I've been trying to get an alternative to work, so things have been changed, though nothing obviously relevant. Can anyone give me pointers where to look. This is with myth 0.17. Thanks, Chris ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I starting getting errors about not being able to access some of the tables, so I ran myisamchk to recover things, but then my recorded table was knackered. It basically had no columns, so I dropped it. Is it worth trying to recover this, or would it be simpler to drop the whole DB and start over. Bear in mind this is a mess-about install. And, before anyone asks, no I don't have a backup. I tried looking for a single command that would recreate the table, but the source looks to build the tables piecemeal (Yuk!) a column at a time. [mythtv-users] Re: Playback of Transcoded (MPEG4) file on Epia ME6000
The gcc compiler hasn't got any scheduling logic for the c3 since via hasn't released that information or contributed to the gcc development. and since the c3 design is based off the old cyrix dies I suspect that the 586 optimisations might be a reasonable match. -Os is all very well but that just tries to pack everything into the smallest space and so disables all word alignment and doesn't try to optimise the code for speed. -O2 seems like a reasonable compromise for the c3. It doesn't unroll loops but does do some optimisations. Personally I always found "586 and -O2" gave decent performance... with the added benefit I can use the same binaries on P3, C3 and C3-2 which helps testing and debugging (for me). If I have time I might run some benchmarks with different options. [mythtv-users] Mythmusic sorting.
Is there any way to get mythmusic to sort by album name, rather than by artist name, when setting up a playlist? The reason I ask is that a large share of my CD collection that I've ripped to mp3 is compilation albums, and I'd rather be able to select them in one go than have to hunt down each artist that appears on the album in the artist selector. And if this isn't possible, is there anywhere to submit feature requests for this module? --Matt ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I think I might have solved this now. Before I asked the question, I just tried to configure, qmake, make, and make install. When I did the make, some objects recompiled but most of them didn't. I've now done a make clean, and it's now rebuilding all of them. The problem is, I can't test it now, because I tried to update the kernel, and while I was at it I did a yum update. [mythtv-users] Recomendations for Mpeg2 transcode settings?
Hello List, I would like to transcode down some mpeg2 (pvr-250) recordings into (mpeg4, avi, divx, whatever...) to keep as videos for when people come over. This is primarily for kids stuff but I would like to keep some adult titles too. Here is my question. What is the best format and settings to give a good reduction in file size without noticably reducing the quality of the picture? Please note that I am viewing on a hi-def widescreen monitor so good picture quality is vital. The format does not need to be directly supported by transcode but it needs to be playable with mplayer or xine. Avidemux2 comes to mind as an alternative for doing the conversions. I tried transcoding using the default mpeg4 settings in myth but the results were very poor. Very blocky and lots of artifacts. Maybe acceptable for kids but not personnaly. Any thoughts?
