the pundit-r ships with its own cpu fan, thus, i didnt need to use

What's the highest version of xmame you have running?

I am using 0.96 (or 0.95 - can't remember)

I had to remove genre from the display order, and change joytype to 0 in
the mythconverg table.

However, I have another issue. I have xmame compiled with lirc support,
but cannot find any reference or sample lircrc files for its use.

Does anyone have a lircrc file so I can use my remote with xmame games

[mythtv-users] Configuring the idle DVB channel? Mythtv-setup problem?

2005-06-02 Thread Stephen Williams
When a DVB card is not in use (e.g. for recording or liveTV) and the DVB on
demand option is not used, both of my DVB cards tune to channel 3. What i'd
prefer is for them to tune to channel 1 (since the mux associated with channel
1 has complete guide data, whilst the mux associated with channel 3 does not!).

So the question is, how do I configure this? I've tried changing the 'starting
channel' option in the 'input connections' section of the mythtv-setup (which
would logically seem to be the option to change) but this does not
have the desired
effect.

Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you running Fedora Core 3? The SELinux stuff in it prevents this
from working properly. You can either run mythfrontend as root, or if
you're willing to be bleeding-edge, run kernel 2.6.12-rc3 or later as
described here: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/131634

3. Use sudo to run mythfrontend as root:
  i. Need to modify /etc/sudoers to add your mythtv user
(use ALL option and NOPASSWORD; example in sudoers file)
ii. Start mythfrontend with sudo: sudo mythfrontend

At this point the mythfrontend logs should say something like
 using realtime priority

The problem with this is that it gets reset each time you change the
channel to the currently tuned one.

This seems to be related to the channel crawling feature that's been
muted, i.e the DVB code would when mythtv was idle tune to each of the
channels and attempt to update the EPG.

However it's not bubbled to the top of the list yet.

Thanks for planning the update... this is by far the best MythTV theme
that I've seen. Besides the 16:9 aspect ratio that you mentioned, I
would really like a matching OSD theme to go along with it.

Re: [mythtv-users] Abandoned with Xbox?

2005-06-02 Thread Brian Meehan
I've upgraded several xboxes to 0.18 using the 4.5 script on bit.blkbk.com

from the xebian command line, use:

./install.pl -u

after you extract the tar.gz file (to someplace like /tmp)

Really, that's it. It's so easy you almost feel like you're doing
something wrong. :)

Whats the real deal? has Dennis abondoned this project? has anyone

Re: [mythtv-users] Configuring the idle DVB channel? Mythtv-setup problem?

2005-06-02 Thread Stephen Williams
Run mythtvsetup then choose Input -- Select input connection --
change Starting channel in the setup page.

The problem with this is that it gets reset each time you change the
channel to the currently tuned one.

As my original positing said, i've already tried this and it doesn't
appear to make a difference to the channel that's tuned when the card
is idle. This setting only seems to affect which channel is tuned on
next entry to livetv.

This seems to be related to the channel crawling feature that's been
muted, i.e the DVB code would when mythtv was idle tune to each of the
channels and attempt to update the EPG.

However it's not bubbled to the top of the list yet.

Indeed it does seem related, although i'm only looking for the basic
functionality of being able to specify a single channel that will be
used when the card is idle. I think the consensus seems to be that
this currently requires a manual database tweak rather than being
configurable through any GUI (would be nuice if you could confirm
this, I was half expecting to need to change a hard-coded value in the
source).

If there is a work-around then i'll happily use that until the
channel crawling functionality becomes a reality.

Steve

p.s. a big thank-you to all the DVB devs, the improvements since I
started using mythtv (0.14) have been highly appreciated!

2005-06-02 Thread Brian Meehan
Dave, could you give us a little more information about your setup?

Which version of MythTV do you have installed?

Are you running a backend server separately, or a combination
frontend/backend system?

Do you get a list of recorded programs, and if so, can you watch them?

When did this event first occur? Was it near a software upgrade?

Finally, which distro are you using, and did you use one of the MythTV
setup guides?

The folks on this list should be able to help you more readily with
some of the information above. Cheers!

I can record shows, and use xine to playback the individual .nuv files.
So I know playback works, and XvMC works. (Otherwise, an XP 2000 would

If a 1800+ can play back 720p smoothly (ie, my machine) in non-Xv mode, why

One of the following three is sufficient, in order of decreasing security:
1. Use kernel 2.6.12-rc3 or later, and set up RLimits to allow

   http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/131634
2. chmod u+s mythfrontend -- this will not work on Fedora Core 3

3. Use sudo to run mythfrontend as root:
  i. Need to modify /etc/sudoers to add your mythtv user
(use ALL option and NOPASSWORD; example in sudoers file)
ii. Start mythfrontend with sudo: sudo mythfrontend

At this point the mythfrontend logs should say something like
  using realtime priority

Since using sudo to run mythfrontend as root is the least secure
option on this list, why would you set it up to use the ALL option? If
it were my setup, I would edit the sudoers file to only allow user
mythtv to run mythfrontend as the root user. Are there actually other

I would really like a clock/date (that's constantly updated ...) on
the menu screens, and possibly on the OSD too. It's a useful feature
on my cable box (apart from the guide OSD seems to have been written
by a couple of engineers with no clue) but something which is
seemingly lacking in mythtv and I think most people if not all would
agree to. Widescreen support is also something that would be nice,
although it seems to display quite nicely already on my 16:9 TV.

Something else I'd like (perhaps on a theme-independent level) is a
setup menu in the frontend that actually lets you select which key
menu items appear (watch tv, recordings, phone etc) and their ordering
on-screen, without having to manually edit the xml pages. IMO, the
more that can be done in the GUI-driven frontend, the more desirable
the mythtv solution will become.

I've been using this theme for a while now, and I love its clean and
colourful look. Keep up the great work!

[mythtv-users] Blue Specks / Noise on Black Background?

2005-06-02 Thread Patrick Kirchner

Hello,

While watching
recorded showswhere there is a black background or a darker image, I see a
lot of blue specks or blue noise like this:

http://www.perdignus.com/BlueSpecks.jpg

I get this in MythTV
and MPlayer even with files that I haven't recorded. I suspect the problem
is somehow related to XV playback since I don't have the problem if I play a
file with MPlayer using "-vo gl".

I've tried
correcting the problem with xvattr but have had no luck.

Is it possible to
use OpenGL for playback or recorded shows in MythTV or can someone offer me some
XV fine tuning tips please?

Thanks
much,

Patrick.

Re: [mythtv-users] Configuring the idle DVB channel? Mythtv-setup problem?

2005-06-02 Thread Mudit Wahal
Seems like DVB for HD3000 card in newer releases has some issues. I've
posted a thread in the myth-dev list. The starting channel always get
reset as pointed out by John. The channel up/down doesn't show all the
subchannels.

I'm not sure if Issac is aware of the DVB issues as he claims
everything is working. Apparently its not and 100s of HD3000 users can
vouch for that by looking at the lists of questions being posted in
this list and and on the pchdtv forum.

Also, sometimes, when I've done several stops/starts of backend, and
try to watch frontend, I get green blobs on the screen for all the
channels. There is some picture, but majority of the screen is covered
with green moving blobs. By doing a few more backend restarts or
sometimes rebooting the system make these go away. The backend starts
complaining about uncorrectable errors on ALL the channels. These were
the same channels which were fine 1 min ago. If I try to record them
and play them while they are being recorded I dont see any blobs. I
can it may be an issue only with Watch LiveTV.

I hope the wonderful DVB dev team can find some cycles to fix these
minor issues :-) Is there any DVB list where I can post these issues ?
Some of these are myth related and others may be DVB only issues.

Thanks
Mudit

On 6/2/05, Stephen Williams [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Re: [mythtv-users] [REQUEST] MythCenter theme update wishlist

2005-06-02 Thread Shawn Wilcox
I am planning to do an upgrade on the MythCenter theme
 (http://www.fotoniq.nl/projects/mythtv/) since I receive
lots of mails with this question and I want some more features in it
 myself
too. Please let me know whether you use the theme and if yes, what you
 would
like to have as a new feature in it. Some of my own suggestions:

 - 16:9 aspect ratio
 - on/off button graphics
 - more custom images and gui elements
 - a clock! -- does anybody know how to implement this?

I use it - as you know, I'm a big fan. I guess things I would like to see
 are:

 - longer list of menu items before you have to scroll down to the ones
 out of view
 - OSD in the same theme

Apart from that it's pretty much perfect already! Look forward to
 seeing the next incarnation.

 Phill

I've tried to upgrade the xbox per the upgrade doc with no luck and

I was running 0.16 last week on a setup that included a server a few
PC frontends and an XBox. I upgraded all the systems using apt
successfully to 0.18. The mythweather plug in on the XBox needed a
little more attention. Another annoying bit was that the mythtv
package insisted on installing mysql, mythbackend and mythtv-database,
but I just apt-get remove'd mysql afterwards and everything is running
nicely now.

I just did an apt-get update followed by apt-get install mythtv on the XBox.

Well, I did try editing the file in avidemux2, using its own cut point
system to get rid of the unwanted stuff. It didn't die, but it produced
a file with audio slowly going out of sync, until it was out by a large
margin by the end -- up to a second.

I expected this could happen because avidemux reported that it had a sound
sync error of 0.5 seconds after loading the file.

So I suspect that even if I get nuvexport to call avidemux with success,
I will not get a usable file in any event, and am giving up on this for
the meantime.

Note that Myth's player and other players do not have a sound sync problem
on the original file, and I was able to transcode the original file
(with not cuts) using mencoder without sound problems (though my
experiments at reverse telecine with pullup resulted in dropped frames
in some, but not all locations in the film. Rather odd.)

So for now I'm stuck until I find another editor, the only choice being
to transcode to mp4 in mencoder to save some space, but with no cuts.

I haven't been following this specific thread, but it's a
shortcoming that Ive been interested in and monitoring for a good long
while now (12 months). In case you haven't tried yet, you might want to
try encapsulating the MPEG2 into an AVI with mencoder. Something like
'mencoder -ovc copy -oac copy -o out.avi in.mpg' or whatever... search the
archives for my name and mencoder. Someone else suggested this and it was
a partial workaround... complete with avidemux rebuiling B-frames, etc.

Also, ProjectX seemed initially very exciting as an editor for
maintaining sync. I tried it a month or so ago and it seemed to
work where others were broken. Recently there's been some noise on the
list about how it's got issues too, but I haven't had time to look into
it.

Worth a try, though I presume one would have to then do some more to be
able to export mythtv's cutlist. The grail, of course, is to take
a mythtv recorded program with cutlist, and generate a cut-down mp2 or
mp4 with good audio sync which can either be played externally (mplayer/xine
or players on other OSs) or reincorporated back into myth.

(Of course, if myth's internal transcode did better on HD files, that
would be the easiest way to attain the latter goal.)

What will projectX do for me? It doesn't appear to have editing.

It took me awhile to work up the ambition to anally insert Java
enough to make ProjectX go. Once I did, I was surprised at how much
functionality it had. It will do cutting, and when it does so it parses
the stream and tries to correct varying A/V offsets after the first cut.
Looked really good, but like I said, some folks have been having subtle
issues with the sync of cut streams.

I used Project X to load a NUV, manually set cutpoint, and then resave
the file. Then I used a couple of other programs to convert to MP4 and
burn to a DVD. Worked like a charm. I don't have the actual procedure
handy though.

That usually means that ffmpeg was not compiled with the proper codec
support. You might have to compile ffmpeg manually if you want it to work.

[mythtv-users] Problem: Mythmusic randomly skipping forward during mp3 playback

2005-06-02 Thread Nick
Quite an odd one here, so I'm hoping other users may have seen this.
Problem has been there since using 0.16 and now on 0.18.1,
installations having used atrpms.net for installation of mythtv and
deps. ALSA is 1.0.8, via SPDIF. I haven't really used mythmusic for
playback until very recently, having otherwise tested it for a few
seconds to make sure it was working.

During playback of mp3s in mythmusic, occasionally the track will skip
forward, sometimes by up to 30s or onto the next track in the
playlist, before returning to normal playback. The music plays
perfectly on my Win2K box in Winamp, and I do not have other audio
playback issues under myth (either live tv, recordings or via
mythvideo). This doesn't happen on every track, and sometimes if I
skip back to the point where the skip occured, it plays with no
problems. Quite an annoyance, as it makes listening to music
infuriating.

If I can provide any more info, please holler. I've not tried playback
of non-mp3 material such as Ogg as my CD collection is all ripped into
mp3, but if there's a known issue and suitable fix (couldn't see one
on gossamer) I'd love to hear it.

Cheers,
Nick

Not a PVR-150 user, but make sure you are only using module options
that are required for the cards. I'm not sure if you are using any
options in modprobe.conf (or equiv) that are forcing to NTSC, but
there are a couple of complaints in the ivtv output of unknown options
being passed. Does the card work without any options (i.e. does is
autodetect properly)?

I would also take this to the ivtv list (where it is more appropriate)
and see if there is a known issue.

There is none, recommended procedure for lirc is therefore (I forgot in

Actually there are:

I didn't have to compile lirc and the modules are already part of the

Frankly, at this point, I would be happy with a cutting program that was
given the leeway to move cutpoints to nearby I-frames or A/V sync points so
that there is no rebuilding to be done, and no risk of loss of sync.

For a full fledged editing studio, you need to edit to exact frames, but
for elmination of commercials or extra snippets at the start and end of
recordings, a little leeway is fine.

Particularly if, for example, you just have a series of programs that
you will not be watching for several months, programs that have a cutlist
so you won't watch the cut parts if you watch them now, and you just want
to delete the stuff you would not have watched anyway from your disk.

I will check into project X, the web examples did not imply an easy cutting
interface. Myth has a reasonably decent cutting interface, though if I
were designing it I would add mouse/trackball support to make it really
easy to slide and search through the program for the cutpoints you want.

I can imagine a nice mouse interface that went like this:

a) Click to start hunting. Roll mouse, picture zooms by very fast.
The screen's worth of movement covers the entire video.
   Get close to your cutpoint.

b) Click again and now the mouse movement moves more slowly, the full
screen of movement covers just a minute or two. Get closer
c) Click again and the full sweep is now just a few seconds
d) Click again and the sweep is just 30 frames or so. Ideally
the frames are actually displayed as thumbs. Final double
click to pick frame. right click to go back up.

I bet with an interface like this I could move to any frame I wanted
in a little back and forth of the mouse, in very short time.

Beyond what myth needs, though.

[mythtv-users] Myxer UPDATE - MyxerCustomizer script which allows you to make it look however you want!

2005-06-02 Thread Dave Hofstra
I had only released the theme Myxer last week, and have just updated it
with a really cool feature. I made a directory in the theme
called 'MyxerCustomizer' which contains a script called
'MyxerCustomizer.sh'

When you execute the MyxerCustomizer script (by issuing 'sh MyxerCustomizer.sh' in a terminal) a menu will appear where you can:

1) Select between 4 different background images in 5 different colors
2) Select among 24 different 'Bar' highligting buttons
3) Select among 7 different 'Text' highlighting methods (the text within the highlight bar mentioned above)

When you re-launch mythfrontend, you should notice the changes that you picked above.

The script also provides an option to reset the above items you have changed back to the default setting.

The script has some checking code in it that should prevent you from
doing anything really horrible to the theme, so try it out, and let me
know if it needs any improvements. Note should be made that Myxer
has to reside in either /usr/local/share/mythtv/themes/Myxer or
/usr/share/mythtv/themes/Myxer right now for the script to work.

The available graphics in this update are pretty basic. I hope to
provide some nicer options in the future. The script has a
feature where users can try out thier own graphics, and submit them to
me for inclusion in the Myxer theme. I really hope to get some
people excited about this, where the Myxer theme could have several
'User-defined' favorite skins in the future!

Have fun, and don't poke too much fun at me if you look inside the actual script (its my first script ever... he he he)

Heres the URL: http://lisadaveh.home.comcast.net/myxer/

Have Fun Myxing it up!

ProjectX does actually have a nice cutting interface, the ability to

generate a cutlist, ProjectX can process the entire video from the

[mythtv-users] Reboots, lockups, and Losing Audio - 18.1

2005-06-02 Thread Garry Cook
I've got a rather strange issue that cropped up after upgrading to
18.1. I'm running two PVR-250s and a PVR-500MCE on FC3. After about a
week of running fine, my box rebooted while watching recording in
progress the other night. Since then, it has twice hung while watching
recordings in progress. I have not yet seen the same behavior with
pre-recorded shows, or live TV (never watch live TV anymore, so I
probably won't be able to test this).
After each reboot, I have no audio. So, I open Kmix and both Master
and PCM volume are muted. If I unmute them, audio starts. However, as
soon as I use my remote, audio stops. I ALT-TAB to Kmix, and Master
and PCM are still NOT muted. But muting/unmuting the Master volume
brings my audio back.

So, a few questions:

Anyone seen anything similar to any of these issues? I'm thinking the
reboot and lockups might be related, and the audio is possibly a
result of the upgrade.

In an effort to try and 'quick fix' the reboot lockup issue, I decided
to upgrade my capture card drivers using atrpms testing branch.
Upgrade was successful, and seems to fix some of my other small video
issues. However, my last lockup just happened a few hours after the
upgrade.
Any ideas what might be causing this or where I should look to troubleshoot?

I obviously need to have Kmix save it's settings. I've been reading
through the Kmix handbook, and have also done a google search, but
everything I read seems to point to menu options that are not
available. In the Kmix File menu, my only option is 'ALT-Q = Quit'.
How do I save my Kmix settings?

Thanks for any info...

This is a really great theme and should be included in the default set

I would also love to see a clock in the menus (I thought this was on
the way for the skins included with 0.18, but was disappointed to see
it not there). Also, If there is a matching OSD theme, I would like
to see a larger clock on that one too. I currently use
mediacenterOSD, but the OSD I used in 0.16, blueosd (?), has a clock
in very large digits when you hit the info button in the top-right.

[mythtv-users] total linux newb trying to do manual knoppmyth install

2005-06-02 Thread Alex Van Deusen
I tried posting this in the Knopmyth forums but no one responded. So
I figure I would ask the myth experts. I would follow the guide Jarod
puts out but it seems like a lot of work.

I am trying to do a master backend knoppmyth manual install.

The reason I need to do a manual install is because of my hardware
configuration.

I have a server that I am going to install the following.

9gig Ultra 160 scsi hard drive, on integrated ultra scsi 7890 RAID controller.

(2) 250 ide 7200 hard drive, ide 1
(1) DVD writer/reader ide 2

(3) PCHDTV cards
(2) PVR 250

(1) ATI 9600xt graphics card ( I plan to remove since I wont really
need to run graphics or sound on the backend)

256 megs of RDRAM (plan to increase if i have to.)
1ghz coppermine processor

I booted off the knoppix cd and it ran the setup scripts. I did get
some wierd errors on the IDE drives but it detected everything.

I selected the manual install option and ran the disk partition program.

It sees the scsi drive and the ide drives but this is where I have questions.

I read through the manual install guidelines but I am still not 100%
clear on a few things.

The scsi drive will be sda1 with partitions for
/
swap

What else should I put on this and are they all physical and not logical?

For myth and all the video do I put this on the ide drives?
How do I setup the partitions If I want to use LVM ( to add drives later)
what file system do i use xfs, ext something else.

Can someone give me a step by step configuration for the drives and
the proper partitions?

THanks

Re: [mythtv-users] Abandoned with Xbox?

2005-06-02 Thread Adam Anderson
I've got a nicely functioning .16 backend and a xbox front end running
.16 built off this distro http://bit.blkbk.com/ from Dennis Cartier. I
used the .0.4.4 code. I'd like to upgrade, but after reading the
posts here, I'm not real confident that I can take the xbox to .18
  without losing major plugins.

Whats the real deal? has Dennis abondoned this project? has anyone
really had success with xfedora and myth? I don't see much detail on
xfedora or Dennis' build anywhere in regards to .18.

I've tried to upgrade the xbox per the upgrade doc with no luck and
not real sure about trying again without someone from the project
  talking about a supported path.

  Evil-Barney

I was running 0.16 last week on a setup that included a server a few
PC frontends and an XBox. I upgraded all the systems using apt
successfully to 0.18. The mythweather plug in on the XBox needed a
little more attention. Another annoying bit was that the mythtv
package insisted on installing mysql, mythbackend and mythtv-database,
but I just apt-get remove'd mysql afterwards and everything is running
nicely now.

I just did an apt-get update followed by apt-get install mythtv on the
XBox.

I used the .0.4.5-beta scripts with v1.1.0 of Xebian and it worked fine for
me. I did this after Mythtv .18 was in the debian repositories. My backend
and xbox frontend are running .18 fine. But yes I think the project has not
had much attention lately, but it still works.

Re: [mythtv-users] [REQUEST] MythCenter theme update wishlist

2005-06-02 Thread Phill Edwards
I use it - as you know, I'm a big fan. I guess things I would like to see are:

 - longer list of menu items before you have to scroll down to the ones
 out of view
 - OSD in the same theme

Apart from that it's pretty much perfect already! Look forward to
 seeing the next incarnation.

One more thing I thought of - the maximum number of charcters in the
menu items is quite low compared to some other themes. So, for
example, if you install MythStream you get a menu item that says Play
Internet rather than Play Internet Streams.

Re the OP's comment on the boxes around the icons - I like them. It's
all just personal taste, I guess.

[mythtv-users] Audio loss during playback with Encrypted VOB file!

2005-06-02 Thread Max Barry

Twice in the past month, I've been watching a recorded TV show when it
has suddenly lost audio. I dug up the .nuv file and played it with
mplayer, and it had audio all the way through. However, at the exact
point at which MythTV loses audio, mplayer spits out:

  Encrypted VOB file! Read DOCS/HTML/en/dvd.html

MythTV doesn't produce any special messages when running in verbose
mode. It simply stops writing audio to the sound card at that point.

I tried skipping past the problem, saving a position, and restarting
playback, but no good: MythTV won't play any audio from that point in
the file onward.

The two shows to experience this problem were different, but from the
same channel (Channel 10). I capture digital TV in Australia using a DVB
card. With one of the shows, the error is precisely between two
advertisements.

My system specs: MythTV 18.0, mplayer 1.0pre6-3.3.5-20050130,
2.6.10-gentoo-r6 kernel, nvidia 1.0.7174, alsa:spdif output.

Any help appreciated!

Max.

I read through the manual install guidelines but I am still not 100%

the KnoppMyth forum is probably the best place to get KnoppMyth
specific questions answered. if you don't get a response to your
question look it over and make sure you are asking it clearly and are
clearly stating your intentions. a lot of posts get ignored because
ppl don't really understand what the questioner is really looking for.

also make sure you check out the KnoppMyth wiki: http://knoppmythwiki.org

The scsi drive will be sda1 with partitions for
 /
 swap

since you do have three drives you may want to use one for all your
Linux related system stuff, swap and your cache (ringbuffer). maybe
your scsi drive for that.

What else should I put on this and are they all physical and not logical?

that's up to you, actually, both are up to you.
since you have multiple drives i would set one up as your
system/swap/cache drive and then lvm the other two as your /myth
partition. or the other two could be set up independently as /myth/tv
and /myth/video for movies... you've got all kinds of options. :)

For myth and all the video do I put this on the ide drives?
How do I setup the partitions If I want to use LVM ( to add drives later)
what file system do i use xfs, ext something else.

i'm using XFS on my /myth partitions. there is a pretty good how-to
in the knoppmythwiki that explains setting up LVM. it is actually
pretty easy.

Can someone give me a step by step configuration for the drives and
 the proper partitions?

hmm, first i think you need to figure out what you really want to do.
what are you going to use this system for? anything other than Myth?
if you really don't have any Linux experiece you may be better off
starting off by setting up a basic combo frontend/backend machine and
trying it out. once you feel comfortable navigating the filesystem,
reading logs, etc you can create a separate backend to play with.
there's no right way to do it, this is just the approach i'm taking.
i think a lot of ppl will be hesitant to give you a step by step for
anything until they're clear on exaclty what you're looking for; not
because they don't want to help, but because there 'are' so many
different configurations that will work.
i hope this has been somewhat helpful. :)

The problem is that overlays are only supported on a single head of
any current dual-headed card (A hardware limitation, not a software
one). Until this situation changes, you will have to restrict Myth to
using the primary head of the card only (Using the Gui Size options
to restrict the size of the application and/or the rendering window).

[mythtv-users] Help: issues in trying to enable DMA on hard drives for mythtv...

2005-06-02 Thread Robert McRostie
Hello All,
After a lot of work I have finally have my Mythtv box running. Thanks
for all the great guides that are out there. Partically the one that was
written by Jarod Wilson and Jani Talikka (for the Dvico HDTV digital card
setup). I followed Jani Talikka's guide pretty closely to get my box running.

One of the remaining problems that I have is the Live TV output is
jerky. After searching the net I think this is related to me not being able to
get the drives to use DMA. If I record anything the play back seems to be ok.

So first up I will give a little info and see how we go.

Install MythStream - it does what you want.

[mythtv-users] HD-3000 and ATRPMS - Configuration?

2005-06-02 Thread Rob Bongiovi
Hi! I'm pretty new to linux, but I have had good
success getting MythTV running on FC3 via Jarod's
how-to.

I am trying to get an HD-3000 card to work. I see on
his how-to, and a few times in this forum, that Jarod
recommends using the atrpms for linuxtv-dvb for the
HD-3000(available on the testing site).

I've installed those, but am having a hard time
getting the HD-3000 to work (and, in fact, have lost
the ability to use my PVR-500MCE). In all the
searching, I have not been able to get a clear sense
of what I should be adding to my modprobe.conf and any
other files for the HD-3000. Does anyone have
suggestions on what I should do (er, should've done)
after I installed the atrpms packages?

Thanks!
Rob

Re: [mythtv-users] Help: issues in trying to enable DMA on hard drives for mythtv...

2005-06-02 Thread Mark Knecht
/sbin/hdparm -c 3 -d 1 -m 16 -A1 /dev/hda

This means: '-c 3' enables 32 bit transfers with sync through the pci
bus, '-d 1' enables DMA operation, '-m 16' turns on multisector
transfers (with 16 sectors) and '-A1' enables the driver read ahead
feature.

 Hello All,
After a lot of work I have finally have my Mythtv box running. Thanks
for all the great guides that are out there. Partically the one that was
written by Jarod Wilson and Jani Talikka (for the Dvico HDTV digital card
setup). I followed Jani Talikka's guide pretty closely to get my box running.

One of the remaining problems that I have is the Live TV output is
jerky. After searching the net I think this is related to me not being able
to get the drives to use DMA. If I record anything the play back seems to be
 ok.

So first up I will give a little info and see how we go.

When I do a lspci -v command I get this:
