[mythtv-users] RF out from sat box to Nexus-s card in Mythbox

2005-10-12 Thread cardboil
I have a satellite receiver box through which I get my regular
satellite channels (encrypted) -- but it does not have a PVR built
in.  I also have a Mythbox with a Hauppauge Nexus-s DVB-S card
(no, I don't have a PVR-x50 or similar analog capture cards).  Is
it possible to run a cable from the RF out of the sat receiver to the
input of the Nexus-s DVB card?  Will it work (i.e., tune the RF
out signal coming from the sat receiver)?  Or, is the Nexus-s
incapable of tuning anything but DVB signals? Thx.

Dumb question, but can you still run "hdparm -t /dev/whatever" on a
SATA drive? No matter how it's configured, it would at least give you
a ballpark figure on if the drive is configured right. My system just
scored 11MB/sec while recording two shows and transcoding, and 40MB/sec
when it was merely transcoding.

I seem to recall something about this being mentioned before, but
couldn't find it anywhere so wanted ask whether there is anything I

just something to do with the way these DVB transport stream thingo's

FTR, I have 3xAverMedia 771 DVB-T's running on FC2, with the 0.18.1

Was the used tuner previous tuned to that channel?
It failed to tune the new channel and recorded the
old one? This happened to me one with a

my other card the same thing produced the zero
byte recordings. I think this is fixed or being
fixed in the SVN version.

I have the same difficulty as you, Curtis. I've even written a
program to automatically run test-mpeg2 until success each time the
channel is changed. Recording is still about 50% reliable via
firewire.

So what's the difference between us and the people who seem to have
it working 100% ? I'm still thinking it may be the card or perhaps
the linux driver. I'm hoping anyone who is having success with this

Re: [mythtv-users] (SOLVED) Video lasts for only 1 second on live TV

2005-10-12 Thread Alberto Alonso
I don't know what the default is, however I must say that
I did the original setup back in 2004 (not using knoppmyth)
and it worked with Television as the input. Eventually I
upgraded the mythtv version and things broke. I couldn't
get things to work for a long time and I decided to stop
using live tv and used mythtv only for recordings.

Recently my interest came back and restarted to research
things to try to fix the problem. Thanks to all the input
from the list and the new search results I finally fixed it.

I must say that more clear error reporting would have saved
a lot of hours. A don't know where the code could be clearer.
All I know, is that last time I looked at the code things
were not documented and following the structure was not
easy to say the least. I gave up due to the huge learning
curve. I work in projects over 100K lines so I can read code,
but I guess my brain tends to refuse to work on/understand
undocumented code :-)

I don't know why recordings always kept working, do they
use a different setup for tuner?

Thanks,

Alberto

Ok...

So I removed the folder from my Users folder and relaunched the software

Is there some way to remove the name and preferences for that name from the

I do have phpAdmin running if that will help?

2005-10-12 Thread Andrew Hogue
Hi,I would totally be willing to help out, I have lots of experience with openGL which I would think would be great to use since I'm sure that most people have some form of openGL (I'm not talking about rendering hundreds of thousands of polygons but rather a few textures on simple quads)The reflections in frontrow are simple and easy to do and yes a little celeron could probably do that in software at full speed.Anyways, let me know where I should begin :) I think however that it goes a bit beyond just a simple theme, it might require a bit of an overhaul on the interface in order to piece everything together not sure about that though either way... adding animation to the theme would be very simple if we used openGL.-- AndrewOn 12-Oct-05, at 11:52 PM, Brad wrote:The gods of User Experience have spoken ( http://www.apple.com/imac/frontrow.html ) let's offer them the highest form of flattery. Lets see if we can get a hold of some full res screenshots, and put together a team to turn this out quickly. Please reply to this email with a list of your skills. My very first thought when I saw that was "Wow, that looks nice... I wonder if I could make a MythTV theme like that...".  That said, I don't think I can. :-) But I'd be willing to try. I've already done one MythTV theme - which I use everyday -- and love. Its a far cry from the silky goodness that Apple is serving up though. There's a Front Row walk-through here: http://www.apple.com/imac/tour/ . I'm not so sure about some of the sound effects, but certainly its the simplest and cleanest UI I've seen for this type of application. I love how your desktop transitions to Front Row... that's cool (although not necessary for MythTV). I really like how it is very iPod-like to step through various screens. I don't think we could get some of the eye-candy on my poor little Celeron -- I guess they are using Quartz Extreme for some of the reflections/transitions/etc.Brad___mythtv-users mailing listmythtv-users@mythtv.orghttp://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users --  Andrew ___

2005-10-12 Thread Drew Tomlinson
I posted the following message a few days ago but received no
responses. Trying one more time. I'll take anything that might help. :)

Thanks,

Drew

Subject:[mythtv-users] Guides For MythVideo and MythMusic?

From: Drew Tomlinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Reply-To: Discussion about mythtv
To: MythTV Users

I've added MythVideo and MythMusic to my box. But now I'm looking for
user guides for both plug-ins. Specifically in MythVideo, how to
eliminate and customize the videos listed and in MythMusic, how to work
with playlists. I can't seem to enter the right query in Google. Links
appreciated.

Thanks,

[mythtv-users] Re: Who wants to help me develop a new theme? It's time.

2005-10-12 Thread Brad
The gods of User Experience have spoken ( http://www.apple.com/imac/frontrow.html ) let's offer them the highest form of flattery. I don't think we could get some of the eye-candy on my poor little Celeron -- I guess they are using Quartz Extreme for some of the reflections/transitions/etc.Brad___

if your SATA drive is on /dev/hda then its not a SATA drive or you need to
move from a 2.4 kernel to a 2.6 kernel and get real SATA support.

Were you using the ivtv xv driver to run your X session, or just using

That's funny, I posted the same question to ivtv-users and they said it
was not likely to be an ivtv problem and I should ask mythtv-users! :)

In any case, you're both right. The error was between keyboard and
chair. I was using VNC to access the mythtv box while I'm setting it up.
If I select the option "Use PVR-350 Hardware MPEG Decoder" (however that
option is phrased), then VNC displays a black screen. However, the
S-Video output from the 350 shows the correct image.

Obviously, (in retrospect) VNC knows nothing about the 350 MPEG decoder
and cannot display the image created. Mea Culpa.

Thanks for the reply, Nick.

(Let's say 1/31/2006). No doubt, I mean, seriously -- how long must we be forced to wait!  ;-)  Kidding aside, I would love to see this too - although I can't see myself getting a video iPod for sometime (I "just" got my photo - which I'm still thrilled about - and probably getting a nano for my gf first).Surely this is just another nuvexport profile??? So what your asking for is integration of nuvexport into myth, which is User Jobs??? Well, perhaps. I'm *very* happy to have nuvexport (*very*), but to be honest I not-so-secretly yearn for the day when we can *easily* transcode programs with nothing more than a remote control (*sigh*).If I were to have a video iPod, I would want to be able to mark specific recordings (such as "The Daily Show") to be transcoded with the appropriate settings and automatically sync'd to my iPod the next time it is connected. It would probably be fine if the actual syncing occurred through iTunes, as that is already used for syncing my music, podcasts, contacts, notes (my "read later" web pages), calendar, and photos. Hmmm... come to think of it, that would probably bump my priority on the purchase of a video iPod up a few notches. ;-)I think I'll download iTunes 6 now and see if I can figure out how it handles video syncing.-Brad___

Regardless of how a rule is created, search, manual, or regular rule,

For PVR cards, the default is 'S-Video 0', or whatever is the first probed
input on the card. It is not 'Television'.

[mythtv-users] Record _seems_ to work but playback and watch tv definitely do not

2005-10-12 Thread frank berisford
Following the guide by Mr. Wilson at http://www.wilsonet.com/mythtv I
was able to get mythtv installed on my Fedora Core 4 box. 1200MHz AMD
Athlon, nForce2 motherboard, 768MB system memory, GeForce 3 with
S-Video out, Hauppauge PVR-150, 2x40GB Seagates, and Turtle Beach
Santa Cruz sound card.

Testing to see if everything works I followed some of the testing
methods in Wilson's guide. The one that got me most excited was:

# cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test_capture.mpgwhich I let run for a bit
to make sure it had captured something.

then a playback using mplayer
# mplayer -vo xv /tmp/test_capture.mpg

Great! Video and sound everything seems to be working well. I go to
fire up my frontend after going through mythtv-setup. I go
immediately to Watch TV. The screen goes black for a couple of
seconds and then out comes "Unable to Initialize Video" in the

For editing the database, I suggest using something like phpMyAdmin
(there are other programs available like the MySQL control centre).

The CHANNELS table contains all the defined channels you have. You can
select those you no longer want and delete them.

If you have xmltv files in your mythtv directory these may have xmltv
ID of the channels you want listings for. I suppose these file don't
want channels in them you don't want.

If using the database to edit the channels, you can use it to remove
these. The custom record rules are stored in the RECORD table, with
the name of the rule in the TITLE field, and the actual rule in the
DESCRIPTION field. If you delete or edit this entry, your schedules
should update accordingly.

It really has nothing to do with Knoppmyth, but rather the default

Some useful info from the Apple site:
(http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html):

* By following the steps in this tutorial, QuickTime 7 Pro will
automatically create an .m4v file containing H.264 video and AAC audio
that is optimized for iPod. iPod can play the following video formats:

* H.264 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 pixels, 30 frames per second,
Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio

* MPEG-4 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480 pixels, 30 frames per second,
Simple Profile
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio

Sounds pretty interesting.

MythTV is likely using the ALSA mixer (set as 'default' ) to control
your audio. MythMusic uses OSS and so could be using a different
control that the ALSA mixer does not control (if using ALSA with
OSS-emulation. I use SPDIF-out so don't have this problem, but seem to
recall a similar post a few weeks back.

[mythtv-users] FYI - Winbook 32 inch lcd - 1366x768 1:1, dvi

2005-10-12 Thread Robert Denier
I got my 32 inch lcd to replace the vizio. I think part of the reason
my vizio wasn't working on digital was I was using the 8.4.13-r2 of the
ati binary drivers for this radeon 9000. I moved to 8.16.20-r1 ebuild
and it works.

I'm getting the full 1366x768 resolution of the display in a 1:1 mapping
using the provided dvi cable. The contrast ratio isn't quite as good as
the Vizio, but everything else looks good. Actually, straight on the
contrast may be better, but at a sharp angle I think the Vizio was a
little better. Of course the vizio couldn't do the 1:1 mapping I
wanted, which is why it was returned. It also couldn't sync via the
digital connection when the computer rebooted. The winbook does fine.
The winbook is also heavier, but I think when I remove the base to wall
mount it, some of that will go away.

If anyone wants one of these take a look at pricewatch since you can get
it for $999 and $100 shipping instead of around $1099 + $135 shipping.
This is definetly a clear improvement over the Vizio for only about $30
more than what I paid at Sams Club.

If anyone needs my xorg settings or something let me know. One final
note is that I did have some strange remote problems for about 15
minutes but it seems fine now. Now, if only the speakers were
detachable. Oh well.

You can also specify a fixed identifier for machines in case your
hostname is changed on a regular basis (e.g. DHCP) to ensure you don't
lose your settings if your hostname suddenly changes.

How is the music organised directory-wise? Were you copying the files

Is this a knoppmyth 'feature' or ivtv? Every time I've used ivtv with

It's looked pretty washed out since I started recording it. One
question I have is whether More4 is showing all 4 weekly episodes. In
the US, it's broadcast Mon-Thu @11pm, and here a day later, but
Friday's schedule is blank and Monday's episode is listed as a Global

You need to make sure that the freqid field for those channels you
receive on the analog card is populated with the correct frequency
information for your area. In my case, in the UK where analog channel
'numbers' are between 20-69, I have the appropriate frequency number
for the 5 analog channels in my channels table.

You should be able to make sure the fields are correctly populated
using the channel editor in mythtv-setup.

On Demand most likely requires use of a return channel, which your
amplifier may be blocking.  If you can find an amplifier
compatible with cable modems, you likely will have found one that will
work for you.  The splitter is most likely not the problem -- the
frequency range you quoted is adequate for cable modems and digital
cable on most systems.

It's therefore less likely to be MythTV (make sure you have checked
Use PVR-350 output in frontend setup) and could be ivtv setup related.
Were you using the ivtv xv driver to run your X session, or just using
the PVR output for live TV and recordings?

Also, searching various nVidia-related boards didn't yield any
definitive answers to my problem, but it did mention a few peoplehaving problems with XvMC with various incarnations of nVidia'sdrivers. Also, nothing about my specific card (6200). So, if anyonehas a similar setup to mine, and you have XvMC working, could you
please tell me which version of nVidia's drivers you're using? Thanks!I'm using a 6200 and an Athlon XP 2500+ on Debian, so it's XFree86, rather than X.org. Nvidia driver version 7174.

My TV (Panasonic PT-47X54) does 540P and 1080i.  It will accept
480i/p, and convert it to 540p.  It won't do 720p at all.

I can get a 1080i screen using component out, but playing video locks
it up hard.  I'm using 540p over the DVI output, and the 2500+
just keeps up.  Skipping forward or backward on 1080i material
causes it to stutter briefly, until it settles down.  720p is
slightly better, and 480i is no problem at all.  Everything is
converted to 540P.  It works well enough that I'm waiting before
upgrading.

I did need to recompile MythTV to get XvMC to work.

The new nVidia 6150 chipset with integrated graphics looks like a
possible upgrade.  It appears to be designed for HDTV, unlike the
GPUs where the primary aim is 3D gaming performance.  I like my
6200, but get the feeling that HDTV is an afterthought.  At any
rate, I'll upgrade when I see a good 1080i solution at a budget price.

You should do the same with libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1.

xvmcw is working, and nvidia xvmc, too. The missing bit is the
link. Does xvmcw find libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1?

Do you have multiple versions of nvidia drivers installed? If yes, use
nvidia-graphics-switch to choose one.

Just install all available ones from atrpms and use

[mythtv-users] Channel Deletion and Wildcard Channel Rules - 2 annoying problems!

2005-10-12 Thread David Bennett
Hello,

A small annoying problem I have been having, but since I am NOT
using ZapIt (in Japan, so xhtml), I can't seem to figure it out.

1) Deleting Channels -> I have deleted these unneeded channels a
billion times from MythWEB. But every time I run mythfilldatabase they
are back (both on the front end and in mythweb) they are back.

Am I missing something? Is there somewhere else I should be deleting
channels? Should I be doing it directly from the database (if so,
how?)

2) Channel Rules -> I asked a while back how to search for a program
and then record it. I was told to setup a Wildcard Search from the
front end since it is not possible on MythWEB. After I set it up, I
cannot find it on any menus but it just works. Now that I want to make
some changes, I don't know how to alter/delete these search and
records. Again, is there some menu somewhere that has them, or do I
have to manually do it through the database (if so, how).

Any information would be great.
Thank you

[mythtv-users] MythTV and Comcast On Demand

2005-10-12 Thread jesse k
I have a MythTV/Gentoo box which is working very nicely. I've managed
to enable all the functionality I want other than getting premium
channels to work (the various HBOs). This is fine with me as On Demand
obviates the need to record those shows. However, the hardware I've
used to split and amplify my cable signal seems to interfere with the
On Demand service.

The setup (http://jessekirchner.com/file/cable_setup.txt) I have is as
follows. I use a Radio Shack 16-2568 2-way splitter (40-2150MHz) to
divide the incoming co-ax cable signal. One line goes to the
WinTV-PVR350 card in my MythTV box from which I deliver the signal
over S-Video to my television. Due to signal degradation from the
splitter, I use a Radio Shack 15-1170 inline powered amplifier
(50-2200MHz) to boost the strength before the Motorola DCT2000 series
set-top box. The signal is carried by co-ax from the set-top box to
the television.

I cannot use On Demand with the above-described setup. When I want to
catch up on Rome or Six Feet Under (RIP), I need to unhook the input
line from the splitter and feed it directly into the set-top box
during which time, my MythTV box cannot record with a live signal
(however, it will dutifully record hours of static). I've tried to no
avail removing the amplifier to see if that is blocking the On Demand
signal. This leads me to suspect that the frequency pass on the
splitter (40-2150MHz) is too narrow. (And yes, I realize that the
amplifier frequency pass is almost identical, but I dont have the
hardware to check that individually and I want to take this one thing

150 hours of video (Video capacity is based on 4 minutes per H.264
750-Kbps video combined with 128-Kbps audio.) on a 2.5" screen.

So, in light of this new announcement, I'm throwing the gauntlet down.
I will pledge $10 towards a pot to reward someone/some team that
makes it possible to export mythtv recordings to the new video ipod in
3 months time. (Let's say 1/31/2006). That way when I get one of
these for Christmas, my MythTV will be all ready for it. :)

What do the rest of you think?

Can't help with phone control, but if you want to control the firecracker

[mythtv-users] MythMusic volume

2005-10-12 Thread Sage
When I'm playing songs via MythMusic, my volume control does not work.
If I hit the up/down volume keys on the remote, there is a volume bar
that moves up and down, but the actual sound does not increase or
decrease.

Volume controls work fine for watching recordings or live tv. In the
"General" settings, I have the volume controls configured to
manipulate the Master volume. I'm using ALSA sound drivers.

Is this normal behavior for MythMusic? What can I do to get volume
control working?

Says that it's been fixed in SVN and that Chris (xris) committed the fix
on May 15, 2005. That means you can go to the MythWeb revision log at

http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/log/trunk/mythplugins/mythweb

I know about and can go to http://svn.mythtv.org/ but from there how do you
get to the log lists? Is it under Browse Source?

Well, we know it's MythWeb and we want changes specific to that, so
click on "Browse Source" ( http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser ), then on
"trunk", "mythplugins", and "mythweb", then--since we don't know for
sure which file, we'll check all revisions to MythWeb--"Revision Log"
(underneath "Search" on the nav bar). From there, I simply used the
browser's Find In Page to find "Australian" (in FF, I used "/aus").

and find

05/15/05 17:36:24 @6407[6407] xris hopefully
fix things so that australian NEVER shows up automatically.

which links you to changeset 6407

Re: [mythtv-users] Re: DMA not enabled

2005-10-12 Thread Kirk Bocek
The last thing I read about SATA drives said that DMA is always enabled.
On the few Linux boxes I've built with SATA drives, it hasn't been an
issue.

Having said that, hdparm is actually for IDE drives only. On all the
boxes I've built, the SATA drives show up using SCSI nomenclature
(/dev/sda, etc.) Although you can query and test /dev/sdx drives with
hdparm, you're not supposed to be able to set parameters.

Does your motherboard have some sort of IDE emulation for the SATA
drives? You might try turning that off and going with a native SATA
interface. If your OS is installed on the SATA drive, this will involve
using a rescue disk as the drive designation will change.

Hope this helps.

I haven't seen or been able to reproduce this on two systems. I did
find one bug while looking at this though. :) With the new listbox code
I added recently, when you change the recording group, the listbox would
always highlight the "Default" group if you were changing the group for
a playlist rather than highlighting the current recording group name as
it should. Should have a fix for this in SVN later tonight.

BTW, don't forget that with X-10 you will need to have a module at thecircuit-breaker panel to allow devices on one phase to talk to devices

I forget the size offhand, but you can put something like a 350
picofarad capacitor to jump the phases to get the x10 signals to pass.
But you better google it back up because I'm not sure. It talks about
the signal having to run all the way out of the house to the pole to
make the jump, whereas doing the jump in your panel.

Why not time the commercial while playing normally.  Then exit, restart the program and increase the speed and check the times again.
I have noticed it, but just assumed it wsd my head playing around withme.  It has a habbit of doing that :\
Alright, so I tested this by comparing the OSD display of the "time within the recording" vs a stopwatch in hand.

After 2 mins of real-time, the recording was lagging behind by 11-12 seconds (ie 1:48)

6 minutes - behind by 23 seconds
8 minutes - behind by 30 seconds
10 minutes - behind by 38 seconds
15 minutes - behind by 42 seconds.

Any ideas what do to next?

oh i didn't necessarily mean it in a negative way. :) some of the
early CenterStage screenshots looked fairly similar to what Apple is

doesn't pair up with OSS projects or take them under their wing. that

i agree, different circumstance. Konfabulator actually 'borrowed'
from older Apple desk widgets from what i understand. and Dashboard
widgets are far superior to Konfab widgets. ;) not that i've found
either particularly useful.

i'm an Apple Geek and have been for ~3 years now. i just wish they
would have updated the Powerbooks today...

back on topic :)

i would love to see some nicer themes/UIs come along for Myth. i
unfortunetely am not graphically gifted. i know what i like though.
:) the Myxer theme was a huge step forward i thought. at least it
gave users fairly easy access to theming their MythBox.
i'm all for flattering Apple by 'borrowing' their theme. or possibly
working with the CenterStage guys to use their look & feel... they
would probably be more approachable anyway.

what about an overhaul to MythWeb while we're at it? :) give it a
similar look & feel, or make it semi-themable. just a thought.

my background is similar to yours Richard. let me know if you want to
bounce other ideas around or how i can help. i'd like to contribute
to the Myth community and OSS in general if i can.

Re: [mythtv-users] Firewire and DCT-6200

2005-10-12 Thread Alex Brekken
As another data point, I'm running 18.1 on FC3 and have been using
FireWire on a DCT-6200 for a few months now.  I've got a Belkin
FireWire card.  The main issue I have is the same that I've seen
many other Firewire users complain about, which is often times when
starting a recording (or LiveTV) it doesn't actually capture
anything.  So you get either a zero-size file, or it just times
out.  If you keep trying it will work, but I would say that
roughly 40% of the time it doesn't.  Once it DOES start capturing
it's great, but it's nowhere near reliable enough for me to use it as
anything more than as an experimental thing.  Channel-changing,
however, does work flawlessly all the time.  On 10/12/05, Big Wave Dave <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Re: [mythtv-users] Firewire and DCT-6200

2005-10-12 Thread Todd Greene

For what its worth, I use the DCT-6200 and Firewire reliably.  However,
I can't give you my system specifics, since my root partition of my HD
crashed yesterday, and I can't boot the system.  However, it took a
while to get it to work right, and each system reboot (which thankfully
wasn't often) required a manual process.  I was using the firewire port
built-in to the Foxconn motherboard.

(1) Run plugreport: .  Each time I rebooted, the DCT would show up
either in node 0 or node 1 (often changing per reboot).  So, for each
reboot, I would have to re-run mythtvsetup and change the DCT-6200 node
if it had changed.  There seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to why it
keeps changing nodes on reboots.

(2) Get test-mpeg2 to work:  On each reboot, I would need to run
"test-mpeg2 -r [NODE#]"  mutiple times (This step is KEY!!) until I get
some output.  You'll know when you get output, its basically a stream
of binary junk to stdout.  If you don't see output after 1 second,
press ctrl-c and try again.  With 10 tries, you'll get it to work.

(3) Now start mythbackend, and it should work "reliably" until the next
reboot.

Hope this is helpful.  Once I rebuilt my machine with a new HD, I'll be
happy to answer specific config questions...

I don't want to diverge from this topic, but with regard to being

the impression that this device ( th dreambox http://

people pursuing a not-so-legal approach to home entertainment, but
they evidently have overcome many hurdles with recording encrypted HD/
SD data.

I have no experience with it myself, but was curious if anyone on

something similar could get rolled into myth?

Can we please expand on this firewire use for a comcast box?

I was under the impression this was used as a comm channel for the

something useful.)At any rate those devices have some real physical resolution since thereis a discrete number of elements.  Perhaps it is 1920x1080.  I don'tknow.  What you want to do is set your graphics card to that physical
resolution and use a dvi/hdmi cable to send it to your tv.Now the key to 1:1 pixel mapping is your sending digital data for saycoordinate 100,500 over that dvi cable.  That data should only be usedto change the intensities associated with the 100,500th element.  That
is all there is to it.  One would think it would be obvious and workeverywhere there is a digital connection, but it doesn't.The vizio I have, for one, I couldn't get it to work with the hdmiconnection, but apparently many tv's take that digital signal and
rescale it and make it fit the available pixels, hence even if you inputthe exact size for your xorg.conf file, you get something that isslightly smeared on your screen. How do you determine if this is happening?  Well create a png file that
is composed of a black and white lines arranged vertically.  Black linesfor the even numbered lines, and white for the odd or visa versa.  Showthat on your tv and if it looks even and uniform then you have 1:1
mapping, if not, then not.Again, if its mostly video your showing, I doubt you can really tellfrom a few feet away.  You might tell with text, and well it will beobvious with that kind of prepared image.  In general though a 1:1
mapping should make things a little sharper than it otherwise be whensent from a computer.Note that you may not be able to manage your full resolution as a 1:1mapping.  The panel I'm getting is 1366x768 and I've read reports that
you can do 1360x768 and throwing away 6 lines. At any rate good luck..-Robert___mythtv-users mailing list

[mythtv-users] scheduler and sports

2005-10-12 Thread Neil Cronin
Is there any built-in support for lengthening the duration of sports
show recordings if it's detected that the show will last longer than
it's scheduled for (e.g.., extra innings, overtime, etc)? I don't see
anything in the UI for this in 0.18. I can imagine three ways to do
this:

- inspect the frames and try to guess if the show is continuing past
its scheduled end time (hardest, best)
- write a scheduler plug in that can scrape a site like espn.com to
determine if the game is over. (hard, ok solution)
- write a shell or perl script that is invoked by cron that can scrape
a site like espn.com to determine if the game is over, and if it's
still in progress, talk to mythbackend via mythweb to extend the
recording (easiest, worst solution)

Has anyone already tackled this? Or is there an existing solution?

Thanks,
Neil

For live tv you press "info" on the remote which pops up the on screen
info like the current channel and a description of what is
playing.  While this is up you can "browse" to other
channels.  The Roku does support additional remote codes with
something like a harmony remote, but mythroku isn't updated to take

menu system is dog slow. If I throw (much) more CPU at this, am I going
to get snappy menus and good overall response?

Most bothersome is the delay when bringing up the EPG or after having
selected a channel to view.

Have you looked at the cards settings using:

/usr/bin/ivtvctl -a

On a second PVR-350 I installed recently I found that the dnr_temporal
was set to something other than 0. This caused significant ghosting.
Once I set it to 0 using:

/usr/bin/ivtvctl -c dnr_temporal=0

The ghosting went away. Interestingly my master backend system with a
PVR-350 did not have this problem and those settings defaulted to 0 on
that system.

[mythtv-users] Deleting Records that are Symlinks

2005-10-12 Thread Keith R
I've run out of space on the primary location (local disk) where I
like to store recordings so have setup a script to move old
locations to an NFS mount then symlink them back to the original
location.

I'm able to watch the recordings just fine that are linked,
however when I try to delete them from mythweb or from the
frontend the files (neither the link nor the actual file) are not
removed and the mythbackend throws an error that the file could
not be found so it will not delete the data.

I've enabled the delete symlink targets in the setup with
no result. When I try to do an ls of the file that mythbackend
reports does not exist it does in fact exist. There are no
permission issues since I can remove the file and the link as the
mythtv user. Lastly, note that the symlinks are to the
full/absolute path not a relative path.

Anyone experience this? I really like my current solution since
it allows me to more effectively utilzie the storage around my
house and it allows me to keep certain programs on local disk.
But I gotta be able to delete stuff!

Keith.

[mythtv-users] mythfilldatabase and zap2it 404 on icon fetch ?

2005-10-12 Thread Matt SF
Hi all --

my compile problems with the .18.1 release (with -4 diffs) are a non-issue
since i went ahead and compiled a recent subversion version instead :)

anyway, since I manually populated the database with channel data from the
XMLTV scripts, and then imported it into the database, mythfilldatabase
now seems to try to fill in missing icons each time it runs:

Main temp tables populated. Updating myth channels...
Updating icons for sourceid: 1
Attempting to fetch icon with: wget --timestamping
--directory-prefix=/home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels
http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/tms_network_logos/pacific
--10:38:18-- http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/tms_network_logos/pacific
   => `/home/mythtv/.mythtv/channels/pacific'
Resolving tvlistings2.zap2it.com... 206.18.98.202
Connecting to tvlistings2.zap2it.com[206.18.98.202]:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found
10:38:18 ERROR 404: Not Found.

So it appears that's an invalid URL at Zap2It nowadays. Is there a way I
can disable this auto icon update attempt? Or change the URL... ? Or do
I have to recompile mythfilldatabase?

thanks!

Your problem won't be caused by conduction between the motherboard and

It could also be a noisy power supply or some component plugged into it
or even a motherboard with bad isolation.

An alternative is spending your money on an amp that does
optical/coaxial digital in. You can use any old soundcard (that does
digital out) with it then.
Your problem won't be caused by conduction between the motherboard and
the case. I'm not sure what else it could be though, bad earth? cheap

RE: [mythtv-users] Need suggestion for Frontend only fanless

2005-10-12 Thread MythTV

Thanks to list I think I have it straight.  The
*current* HD1000 and HD1500 are the same hardware, but the HD1500 comes with a
256MB CF card and some of their gallery art.  Both of these have 128MB
RAM.  The Revision A HD1000 only had 64MB of RAM, but the current Rev B
HD1000 has 128 MB.  The spec sheet on the Roku web site still shows the Rev
A HD1000 which is what threw me.

I'm trying to find one local, but no seems to have either
in stock in MD.

I have an HD 1000, it is my
understanding that the only difference between the HD1000 and HD1500 is that the
1500 comes with additional software for displaying screen savers on you HDTV
when not in use.  When you read about additional RAM were they talking
about RAM in the machine or RAM on a Card.  I think they give you a larger
card because they provide you with more software.

Do you need the Photobridge

Re: [mythtv-users] Re: gray bars and ghosting on certain channels

2005-10-12 Thread Neil Cronin
Thanks. As I mentioned, when I plug the coax directly into the
television, the signal is fine. No gray bars or ghosting. I'm not
ruling out a bad connection (either on my 350 or internal to it), or
just a bad cable that somehow makes a better connection to my tv.

The fact that it happens only on certain channels makes me think that
this problem is related to my 350 card or mobo, or is at least somehow
related to the frequency of these channels, either electrically or via
some software settings.

Thanks,
-neil

I would start with a little 'hello world' chtml page. Put it on the
server and make sure your phone can see it. Once you have established
that the connection is ok and the phone is able to display the content
you can start to modify the pages. From what I understand, chtml is
stripped down html, and doesn't support certain tags. You will
probably need to remove things like tables and images (depending on
the model phone you have). Start reading through some of the chtml
specs to see what needs to be changed.

w3 spec:
http://www.w3.org/TR/1998/NOTE-compactHTML-19980209/

outline of docomo's extensions by browser level:
http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/p_s/i/tag/s1.html

Also, some emulators have debug output to help you determine what
problems have occurred.
