[mythtv-users] Re: Audio "drum-beat" problem

2005-11-25 Thread David Whyte
I sometimes find that on my BE/FE box, when I exit playback, I get the
last few milliseconds of sound repeating for about 10 seconds before I
am returned to the menu.

Is there any known fix for this problem?

It works fine outside of myth using irw: the button presses are

Is that what it could be?

Can you have multiple remotes operating on the different cards? I
don't see how that would work inside of myth.

Maybe you can only assign one card for livetv? If so, how?

thanks for any pointers!

I'm not sure of your issue specifically, but to answer your questions
about remotes, the remote has nothing to do with the card specifically.
Your PVR-250 capture card is really 2 devices to Myth, a video device
(/dev/video(0|1)) and an LIRC device (the IR receiver part). As long as
LIRC is able to communicate with the remote it should work. That being
said, double check your ~/.mythtv/lircrc file which is the one that
MythTV uses if you are set up for native LIRC support. It could be, for
whatever reason, that you have your ~/.lircrc file which LIRC by default
uses set up right, but are missing the entries in ~/.mythtv/lircrc which
Myth uses.

I get much better performance using mencoder (part of mplayer). Its
something like 15-20 minutes to encode a 1 hour program on my P4 2.8Hz
HT machine. I use nuvexport to give me the raw *.nuv file then I
run mencoder on that file to re-encode for my palm machine. Here is
the mencoder command line I use:

I have a treo 650 and I've encoded a few shows for it. I have been
using mencoder to encode it to the built-in lavc endcoder for divx.
In my understanding divx is an early implementation of mpeg4 (prior to
the release of the standard). Xvid is another. I'm not sure what the
relative differences are but I think they more or less amount to the
same kind of quality per bitrate. Now that mpeg4 is out I think they
both produce legal mpeg4 output.

the mencoder command line I use:

mencoder -o outfile.avi -aspect 4:3 -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=2:turbo:vbitrate=300:aspect=4/3:acodec=mp3:abitrate=96  -oac
lavc -vf-pre pp=lb -vf scale=320:200 -af volnorm infile.nuv

Replace outfile.avi and infile.nuv with the input and output files you
want. The resultant file is ~150MB for 1 hour. The quality is very
high so you could probably halve the 300kbs bit rate and still have a
usable video if you want smaller files.

The assumption is that you are going from a full screen TV program to
a full 4:3 aspect ratio output file. You can get slightly better
quality if the program is 16:9 and you crop it but it may be more pain
than its worth (look at the mencoder man page for the info on
autocrop).

- switch between the different audio tracks for live tv (+ on the keyboard)
- display the menu (m on the keyboard)
- pause (p on the keyboard)
etc.

Buttons on the remote can be mapped to certain keys (with the driver
that ships with the kernel) or to certain strings (with LIRC).

So, if you're using LIRC, map the string "Esc" to one of your buttons.

If you're using the kernel driver, you'll have to edit the module's
source ( drivers/usb/input/ati_remote.c ) or use xmodmap to re-map a key
that is output by your remote to Esc (note that this will also affect
your real keyboard--which is a really good reason to use LIRC).

When you configure xstart to connect to the MBE choose ssh and an

You will then get a little xterm terminal window and in that you can
run mythtv-setup. It takes a while to load over wifi network but it

So, you don't have X installed on your backend, yet you're able to run

you're able to run a program with a dependency on X (mythtv-setup) on

That's right (About the NFS), what format did you rip the DVD's in,
and what are you trying to play them back in? (Missing Codecs if in
AVI DivX/XviD format, missing DeCSS if you ripped to .iso?)

You can use folders, and if you enable the "Gallery View Browses
folders" (Or whatever it's titled, something similar to that), it'll
browse the files and folders in a proper manner as you'd expect.

You need to go into the "Video Manager", and from the menu for each
recording, go to "Search IMDB". This'll do it's best to get the info
and poster from IMDB. If that doesn't work, you can find the movie on
IMDB yourself, and enter the number (without the "tt", so "01234567"
for movie ID "tt01234567", find that ID in the URL) into the "Manually
get from IMDB" option.

If you want the best combination of redundancy and speed, use RAID
0+1. This will, however, only give you 600G of space, rather than the
900G RAID 5 gives you.

Personally, I'd not use RAID 0 on it's own unless you are either
absolutely certain of the uality of the drives, or you really don't
care about what's stored on them.

My remote works like a charm. Here's my modprobe.conf. My lirc conf
is a bit big to include on the list. If you'd like to see it, let me
know and I can post it or email it to you.

My only issue was that I am using the 350's TV-Out for audio (as well
as my sound card) so I wanted to map the volume buttons to the
receiver's volume. I couldn't figure out how to do it, so I went and
bought a learning remote for about $15. I mapped all the buttons from
the Hauppauge remote, then mapped the power to my TV's power and
volume to my receiver.

The only thing left to do remote-wise for me is getting mplayer to do
more than play/pause and toggle the time remaining display. If anyone
has a lirc conf for the newer Hauppauge gray remote that's got some
mplayer controls, I'd appreciate a peek.

In my debian packages the mysql permissions for mythtv-backend are read
from /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt. Having a quick look, if you install mythweb
you'll probably have to change the password
in /etc/mythtv/mythweb-settings.php.

by installing the frontend on my main desktop and it's been working
really well. I also don't have my projector installed yet so I'm not
in a real panic.

Anyways, I have a bunch of files that I would like to move to my
mythbox to watch. I moved one over there to see how it would play and
it works well. So my questions are how best to use mythvideo with
remote front ends?

I was thinking that I need to NFS mount the /video partition on /video
on each of the local frontends to get that to work. I've ripped a few
DVD's to watch on there (funny how Baby Einstein made the list when
you have a 1 year old) but they don't seem to play.

Also, can I create directories in my /video/videos directory and will
it recurse them properly so that I can seperate some of these, like
the kids shows in one, mine in another, and some of my wife's stuff
elsewhere? I guess I could just try it and see if it works, but I'd
rather wait and get some feedback from people who are using this daily
to see how best to set it up.

Also, of the DVD's I ripped, I didn't get the movie posters. Does it
automatically download them from somewhere, or do I need to hit some
keys to get that to work?

And finally, since I plan on ripping alot of my DVD collection, I'm
unsure if I should get four 300G SATA drives and set them up in a
RAID5 array, so I have redundancy, or stripe them altogether and have
a little more room. I guess the only real savings will by my TV
recorded shows that I would like to have in the event of hardware
failure, because all my DVD's I have and can rerip them over time.

Thanks for reading this far and looking forward to some feedback.

[mythtv-users] SQL Permissions Startup script

2005-11-25 Thread Patrick Beard
Hi,
Thanks to Ronald for getting me sorted with channel changing.

The next thing on my 'sort' list is backend start up at boot.

I'm using Ubuntu. I installed the Ubuntu Mythtv binary package. I reckon
debconf generates a random password for the MythTv user on install.
However I want to have a MythTV account that I can log into and have the
frontend start automatically. So I have changed the MythTV user's
password. Now I can log in as MythTV user and start the backend and
frontend from the command line, but if I try to use
'/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend' as created by debconf then I get a mysql
permission error. I've looked in the '/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend' script
and can't see any mention of the password.

Any Debian/Ubuntu users out there hit the same problem?

Any pointers?

Thanks again,

Yup thats it.
When you say everything i need, (this is probably a stupid question)does that include a processor? Also, I'll have to get another video

Sorry I guess "everything you need" was misleading.  After you get
the
board you'll also need a CPU, RAM, Hardrive, and video card.  I
meant
that the board is powerful enough and has enough extras to last you
awhile(1GBIT LAN, 1MBIT lan, Soundstorm audio capable of outputting
"everything" in DD, SATA).  Do understand the board is about 1 1/2
years old already and
there are some new technologys out,  but I think for running myth
(without spending a years pay) it should work just fine.
Additionally I have installed both Slackware 10.1, and Gentoo 2005 on
this MOBO and it went flawlessly.  The only thing that gave me a
hard time was the ATI card(required a couple kernel compiles and lotsa
reading), and the GBIT lan drivers were a little tough to find.
Everything else was recognized at startup and NVIDIA has linux drivers
for this board.    Also, how do a find a case that know that this will fit in it?

Three letters ATX.  Thats it just do some looking online and youll be ok.
Thanks for the links, I'll keep my eye on them. A good website I foundfor local deals is

thanks Geoff. I remember your msg and I tried that. That didn't seem to
change anything.
While I couldn't find anything that indicated what /dev the PVR-250 is,
I went ahead and changed the HD3000 to video0 and the PVR-250 to
video1. That worked. Now I have live TV.

I also changed the HD3000 to terrestrial input (physical RG6) and
commented all of the cx88's except the cx88-atsc. Fooling around, I
unplugged my antenna and plunged in the cable to the HD3000 (note, that
I'm not even looking at the HD3000). I commented out all of the cx88
entries except cx88-atsc. That resulted in  large blocks at the top of
the picture that flashed.

Fooling around some more, I uncommented all except cx88-dvb in
modprobe.conf and that seemed to get rid of the large B&W blocks.
Note again, that I'm only looking at the PVR-250 input.

There must be a connection between having cx88-atsc and ivtv. But, I
don't know why that would be.
With cx88-dvb and ivtv co-habitating, it doesn't seem to be the problem.

Now, I just need to know how I can get the HD3000 working. And, how I
can view LiveTV with HD3000 with the PVR-250 in -- I don't even know if
there is a way that you can pick which tuner to view live TV.

Also, I like to switch to terrestrial ATSC instead of cable at some
point. Don't know how to do that -- I certainly don't want the B&W
boxes back!

If you use cx88_dvb + blackbird, the card should show up at

could easily show up at /dev/video32..

hmmm... I'll try that.
Do you NEED to also load blackbird?
Where is cx8800 located?

Thatnks for the help!

[mythtv-users] Converting shows to PDA suitable format

2005-11-25 Thread ffrr
I am fairly new to converting video, so I have been trying to discover
the best way to convert my recordings (PAL mpeg-TS from a DVB-T card) to
a small format suitable for my Palm Tx PDA.

Firstly, I have read that divx is a popular format and the TCPMP player
on the palm will play it. Is xvid the same thing? What's the
difference? Any other suggestions for a target format?

OK, so I have experimented with nuvexport. Unfortunately, under
Knoppmyth R5A22, nuvexport with ffmpeg seems to be broken, so I tried it
with --transcode and chose xvid format and a screen width of 240 (a
suggestion as a reasonable compromise in quality and size). The show I
am converting was 3.9GB in size. The problem is, on my mythbox, which
is only a 800MHz celeron, it has been over 12 hours, the target file is
200MB and it's still not finished !

I tried running transcode manually from the command line on a faster
(non-myth) machine I have. It's a 2.2GHz sempron. I used this command line

transcode -i in.mpg -V -x mplayer -y xvid4,xvid4 -Z 240x160 -E 16000 -b
48,1,7,1 -w 150 -f 24,2 -o out.avi

but it still is going slow (<20 fps)

So, I guess I am hoping for some suggestions on better ways to do this?

Re: [mythtv-users] Running Mythtv-setup without X

2005-11-25 Thread Johnathon Meichtry
You don't need to have X installed on your backend. I don't on mine. What
you need is an X server on your PC such as Xmanager from NetSarang
(www.xmanager.com for 30 day free trial) and combine is with SSH with X
forwarding.

When you configure xstart to connect to the MBE choose ssh and an execution
command of "/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm -ls -display $DISPLAY". You will then get
a little xterm terminal window and in that you can run mythtv-setup. It
takes a while to load over wifi network but it works fine.

[mythtv-users] pundit r350 and network boot?

2005-11-25 Thread Jakob Fix
Hi,

I just received the pundit r350 I ordered as a frontend for the living
room. Besides the considerable noise made by the processor fan (which
possibly may be remedied by a bios update), there seems to be no way
to actually boot over the network! There's no onboard network, but
they put a PCI network adapter in (so that's one of two PCI slots
taken ...).

I was hoping (and am still) that I can make this a diskless box (see

else have experience and advice with this box? Have a reference for a

[mythtv-users] HELP: No TV after hw install of HD3000 (w/ PVR250 and FC4)

2005-11-25 Thread Brad Fuller

I've been running FC4 (2.6.13-1) with PVR250 with no problems.

I just installed the HD3000 card (becaue I installed a Zalman fan --
really cuts down on noise!) and rebooted.
I now have no livetv. I checked recent recordings and there are no files
of recent recordings. So, I assume that the tuner is not being
recognized because of the HD3000 just placed in the pc.

You think that might be it?

I checked mythtv-setup and I didn't see anything that changed or corrupted.

I checked modprobe.conf and cx88-blackbird was installed above the ivtv
driver automatically after the first reboot. So, I ran the "extras" from
pcHDTV site which installed: cx88-atsc, cx88-dvb and cx88-risc in

I installed a S/PDIF output onto my motherboard which works a treat.
The only catch was that I can't use the Myth volume controls now -
pressing vol +/- on the remote has no effect. I have to use the
receiver's remote to change volume now. But that's a very minor catch.

Either way will work. I just suspect that as there are a number of
different scripts and sources that people do it wit hcron & shell
scripts so they can switch from one to another if one breaks.

[mythtv-users] Channel scan for DVB-S

2005-11-25 Thread Peter Osterberg

Hi,

just got a new NOVA-CI-S card today and have succesfully installed it in
my MythTV server.

I managed to get as far as to channel scanning and got stuck there.

I found out in some earlier thread that I need to have starting values
for frequency and symbolrate to be able to start the scan.
Before I knew that I just got errors. I picked up two values used for
Astra 28 and found out that it actually initiated the scan and got
readings for SNR etc. Fine!
But it didn't do the trick all the way. So I guess that I'll need
specific starting values for the satellites that I'm trying to scan..

I want to scan Sirius 1W, Thor 5E, Hotbird 13E and Astra 19E.

Could someone help me with starting values for those satellites or help
me with a URL to look them up myself?

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Peter Österberg

It wouldn't be fun, and I haven't tried it, but you ought to be able
to edit the database directly and enter the correct values in

restarting mythbackend seems to have done the trick. I'm testing now

Hi Nick,
My Dad's machine is having a similar problem. I've tried deleting
the existing PVR-150 card in mythtv-setup and then creating a new
card. Same problem.

I have tested the PVR-150 using ivtv-tune and cat
/dev/v4l/video0>test.mpg. I can tune to any channel, record it for
5-10 seconds and play it in mplayer. all looks good so this seems to
be a MythTV issue.

Were there any restarts required? mythbackend or mysql?

When I try to watch live TV it plays 1 second of video with audio,
then freezes for about 15 second. It then returns to a Myth screen
that says:

Error was encountered while displaying video.

The log file doesn't say much, unless it's the last line:

I'm new to myth myself, and like you am getting all my hardware
togeather. Your hardware list is'nt bad but here are a few
sugestions.
1. Get a motherboard and a seperate video card.
I say this only because you'll be sharing your RAM with your
onboard video(9100 IGP) which will reduce your total RAM by anywhere
from 64-256MB depending on how much you allocate.

1.b. DONT USE ATI I really liked ATI before my switch to linux
bit Nvidia just seems to have more support. I have a 9800PRO and will
be swapping that for something Nvidia(probobly a 6600GT)
I have an ASUS A7N8X-E that I will be using. It comes with
everything you'll need and it's only about 55$.
2. Last but not least, more RAM and HD space. For only about 30$ more
you can triple your HD space if you look for deals. Check out:
www.techbargains.com.
Or
www.dealnews.com
for all the good daily deals.

In theory, sure, but mythtv requires that the master backend has at
least 1 capture card.  Other backends don't necessarily need to
have capture cards.

[mythtv-users] Digital Audio with myth

2005-11-25 Thread Brian Foddy
Are there any gotchas that I need to be aware of
when I try to put together a frontend to employ
digital audio (5.1, 7.1). I know most tv content is
only 5.1, but having never tried to use anything more
than stereo from a computer I'm not sure what I don't
know.

My receiver has coax and optical inputs. I'm looking at
a new Asus MB and most contain Realtek ALC850 8 channel
audio systems. If needed, I could also consider a
audio card that may have better driver support. What
cards/chips are other having good success with?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I had the same problem with XvMC on. Works fine with it off, however.
I'm using FX5200 and P4 2.4GHz and firewire on DCT-6200.
By the way I also have a cheap $20 PCI firewire card with the VIA

Yes. If you built mythtv with DirectFB support, you can just run the
setup program. Otherwise, the easiest way is probably to ssh in from
another X display, making sure to enable X11 forwarding. Otherwise,
you can install a VNC server, connect with a VNC client, and run the
setup program that way.

Both of which require having X (the X client libraries at minimum)
installed on the backend... Think of it this way, though: X is just a
"few" megabytes extra software on a system that routinely
creates/processes multi-gigabyte files, so it shouldn't be that big a deal.

I'm trying to get a Mythtv frontend/backend server up and running
on a P4 2.8 GHz box with 1 GB RAM and Nvidia Geforce 6800. HDTV
over firewire is what I'm having trouble with. I can now reliably
connect to the cable box and get HDTV streams using test-mpeg2 and
in Mythtv itself, however I've been completely unsuccessful at
solving my audio stuttering problem. I've tried every combination
of settings and every little suggestion I could find on the
internet and this list yet I still get the following errors:

2005-11-24 04:33:52.663 audio waiting for buffer to fill: have 2048
want 4096

or

2005-11-24 04:33:54.567 WriteAudio: Preparing 4096 bytes (1024 frames)
2005-11-24 04:33:54.568 WriteAudio: buffer underrun

Things I've tried but none have gotten rid of the stuttering:
ALSA, OSS emulation through ALSA, an asoundrc is present, Xvmc on/
off, deinterlacing (bob) on/off, extra sound card buffering on/off
(the TV settings option), agressive buffering on/off (in General
settings), priority process on/off, etc, you name, I've tried it.

The problem exists in both the current release of mythtv and svn
from two days ago. I'm running Gentoo. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

My configure setting:
./configure --disable-distcc --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man
--disable-altivec --disable-xvmc-vld --disable-directfb --disable-
audio-oss --disable-directx --enable-firewire --disable-audio-jack
--disable-joystick-menu --enable-lirc --enable-xvmc --enable-opengl-
vsync --enable-xv --enable-x11 --enable-proc-opt --disable-dbox2 --
disable-ivtv

Also of note, I'm using a PCI firewire card that has a VIA chipset.
Some have said there are issues with these, but I dont think its
the source of my problems since I'm able to grab streams fine using
test-mpeg2 and they playback perfectly in mplayer using xvmc. My
motherboard is a SiS chipset.

Any help would be awesome, I'm about at my wits end and starting to

(DVD Copy Control Association - http://www.dvdcca.org/ and
http://www.dvdcca.org/css/ ). The DVD CCA license is the one required
to play back CSS-encrypted material. (Considering how many licenses a
DVD player requires, it's amazing they're affordable at all. Especially
when you consider some of those licenses mean nothing. The DVD FLLC is
licensing the use of the DVD Format/Logo for material that complies with
the DVD format established by the DVD Forum. But, the DVD Forum is a
/self-appointed/ administrator of the DVD format. Wouldn't it be nice
to vote yourself in charge of something and start charging license fees
for the use of that something.)

The software you use to decrypt and play it is a different story
altogether i.e. legal vs. illegal use of deCSS etc.

And the use of deCSS is only illegal (in the US--and unlicensed in other
countries (which may mean illegal in those countries, too)) because
deCSS is not a DVD CCA-licensed software product.

There is also a very very big difference between ripping DVD's to put
in your own Myth library and ripping to share with everyone else.

Ethically, yes. Legally (in the US), it's still a federal felony
offense because you are circumventing technological measures designed to
protect copyrighted material--a direct violation of the DMCA. Too bad
ethics have little to do with legality.

My advice is not to be shy and aggresively rip all your DVD's and
get them into your Myth library as it totally changes the whole
experience. But never share them and make sure the computer where you
host your ripped mpgs are totally cut off from the net i..e show
intent that you are doing it for the right reasons.

If you remember that you own the physical media but not the content
and to always look out for the interests of the copyright holder then
you pretty much can't go wrong. Thats my 2 cents worth anyway.

Good advice, but it doesn't change the legality of the act... ;) Of
course, I've never played a DVD on my Myth box because doing so would be
illegal, but if I had, I would agree with you that it makes watching DVD
movies a better experience because my Myth box gives me full control
over playback (including timestretch, post-processing quality, picture
correction, etc.) and the picture I get on my 67" 1080p TV is^H^Hwould
be much better than that I get from any other DVD player I've ever seen.

Horray for mplayer/mencoder/vobcopy/decss/mythtv and all the other
fantastic tools that have totally changed the way my children view all
their DVD's "on-demand" in any room of the house.

I was getting double events for some of the buttons so I commented out
my original mythtv/xine/mplayer configs for the above buttons.

I would love to see this functionality included in core myth.
Maybe a DVD RIP option to 'Symlink Only', and have a special directory
for 'DVD Library' to put it.

I am working on getting my HDTV3000 working on cable. Not quite there yet
but I know of at least one other person who has this working. My problems
relate to the mysql setup as information has to be poked into the tables.

My PVR500 works fine, *using the kernel version tveeprom*. My HDTV3000
receives using azap and plays back (with sound) using mplayer. Just
haven't got the mysql table entries correct for QAM256. (Not enough time
for playing around!)

The trick is that the ivtv code has been adjusted in the recent past to
work with the kernel (pcHDTZV) version of tveeprom.
So the recommended line of "alias tveeprom tveeprom-ivtv" seen in some
how-to's is now obsolete. That line forced the system to use the ivtv
version which *was* necessary, but is no longer.

There has probably been even further code integration in ivtv .5.

Use the cx88-dvb module. The card shows up at /dev/dvb/adapterx. The
PVR500 shows up at /dev/video1(2).

Re: [mythtv-users] need hardware advice

2005-11-25 Thread David O
I'm new to myth myself, and like you am getting all my hardware togeather.
Your hardware list is'nt bad but here are a few sugestions.
1. Get a motherboard and a seperate video card.
I say this only because you'll be sharing your RAM with your onboard
video(9100 IGP) which will reduce your total RAM by anywhere from 64-256MB
depending on how much you allocate.

1.b. DONT USE ATI I really liked ATI before my switch to linux bit Nvidia
just seems to have more support. I have a 9800PRO and will be swapping that
for something Nvidia(probobly a 6600GT)
I have an ASUS A7N8X-E that I will be using. It comes with everything
you'll need and it's only about 55$.
2. Last but not least, more RAM and HD space. For only about 30$ more you can
triple your HD space if you look for deals. Check out:

Ok, I've been lurking around for many many months and finally, for my

I thought I could built up from this old machine I have. It's a

I thought I could at least put the card in and watch some live tv, but
then I see that the live tv setting wants at least 3 gigs, so I guess
my half-gig hd just isn't going to cut it. I also need more ram, and I
guess a faster processor. So my question is should/can I build up this

Yes.  If you built mythtv with DirectFB support, you can just run
the setup program.  Otherwise, the easiest way is probably to ssh
in from another X display, making sure to enable X11 forwarding.
Otherwise, you can install a VNC server, connect with a VNC client, and
run the setup program that way.

Thanks for the reply Nick.

This is what I have in the 'channels' table in the database. I have put
the frequencies in place if the ID's (Thanks Ronald) but I still get the
same results.

I was expecting to see some strange entries, but it all looks ok to me
(but I know zilch about this stuff)
One of the things I don't understand is - when I try to change channel
and get the 'Please verify channel' error. It mentions a lot of
channels. The list in my first posts was just a snippit.

Using ivtv-tune to find my channels I used the following;

ivtv-tune -teurope-west -c31 -d/dev/video0 This gave me 551.250Mhz and
the channel was BBC1

ivtv-tune -teurope-west -c27 -d/dev/video0 This gave me 519.250Mhz and
the channel was BBC2

ivtv-tune -teurope-west -c24 -d/dev/video0 This gave me 495.250Mhz and
the channel was ITV

ivtv-tune -teurope-west -c21 -d/dev/video0 This gave me 471.250Mhz and
the channel was Ch4

ivtv-tune -teurope-west -c48 -d/dev/video0 This gave me 687.250Mhz and
the channel was Five

Does the content of my 'channel' table look ok?

Any more suggestions would be most welcome - as I'm at a loss to know
what to try next.

[mythtv-users] backend thinks encoder is in use

I was looking at my backend status and it says I have 1 card in

Live tv' but I know that is not true. Perhaps a frontend
crashed...? How can I turn off that encoder without rebooting the

Check http://blatter.com/mceusb/ . lircd.conf example are in tar archive.

I have such lines for colored buttons:

Blue 0x7ba1
Yellow 0x7ba2

Patrick,
I had a similar problem. In my case, entering the frequencies (in Khz!!!) rather than the channel numbers did the trick.

Good luck,

Go into the channel editor and make sure you have valid UK channel
numbers for the 5 channels you have defined (i.e. between 20-69). E6
is I think a European channel number, which is why you are getting the
error messages. I assume since you are getting some video, you
currently have the Tuner0 configured against a video source (analog TV
channels?)

If you make sure you have the correct XMLTVIDs for each channel, you
should be able to get listings too.

If you have no defined jobs, I assume that getJobsInQueue just runs to
see if any new jobs have been added. The log entries that does concern
me are:

 2005-11-21 19:57:26.295 Found -1 episodes in recording profile 56
using max expiration

I don't use max episodes to control if a program is recorded, but I
would guess that the -1 entry is an error value? I would do the normal
things like check database consistency, restart the backend etc, but
hopefully a more experienced user could point out what else might be
causing this behaviour.

A very easy way to test DVB (assuming you have a valid channels.conf
file in ~/.tzap) is:

tzap -o - "BBC TWO" |xine stdin://

tzap takes care of all the tuning and puts the stream to standard out,
and then xine (or mplayer) reads it in and displays it.
