Here's howto tell if it's the driver or the hardware:- stop mythbackend- modprobe -r ivtv- modprobe ivtv- start mythbackendIf this clears up the problem without a reboot, then it could be a driver issue. If not, it's more likely a hardware issue. It could be that ticket that ross mentioned. I sometimes find that it does it to one pvr and not the other and at times both, and when it is one, it's random with one. I will try what you put up above, but i just added a reboot in crontab every day at 6:00am , cause it seems to start after it's been on for awhile, usually longer than a day. guess i'll just deal with it, really want a pvr-500 though, if it get's worse might just spring for one. [mythtv-users] transcode problems
Whenever i transcode a movie that is like 3 hours long it stops at about 2.5 gig (both braveheart and the lord of the rings movies did this). I've done it through myth and manually. I've checked the vob file, it's fine and i've used both the huge VOB file that myth makes and all the separete vob files from copying it from cd to harddrive manually (basically using dvddecrypter on windows and copying it over ethernet). Is there a file limit with transcode or something? I've watched it when it got towards the end, and the EMT part showed it was at the 2:58:00 (on The fellowship of the ring movie) telling me that it is transcoding that far into the movie, it's just not adding to the movie file when it reaches over 2.5 gig.-- Sincerely, MacNean C. Ok if i run under 1080i, nothing is shown under RGB-PC but if i got to RGB-DTV on my tv, i can see it, really nice, but it's half and half, like a line runs down the middle, and the right half is on the left and the left half is on the right, like the screen has moved to the halfway to the right. A friend of mine was similarly unhappy with the playback picture sharpness and was a lot happier afterincreasing the sharpness in nvidia-settings. Yep, found that while searching the list. Used it. Is it because it's deinterlacing> the video? or because of the ivtv driver for the 2 pvr 250's i have? In a manner of speaking. It's likely the NTSC--both your PVR-250'srecording NTSC and your video card outputting NTSC. You can fix thevideo card outputting NTSC by using a better connection (likeDVI/VGA/Component), but can only fix the PVR-250's recording NTSC by upgrading to high-def capture and playback. So playback could look better over DVI, that would be nice. So how do you go to high def capture, and isn't there only like 6 channels in High Def, i have HD on my cable box, but only Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, TNT, ESPN, and one other channel come in HD, so wouldn't High-def capture capture at the same things for the other channels as the PVr-250's? Or is there a card out there that captures regular tv better? Also, i was thinking that a better ivtv driver, than perhaps the one i'm using, would actually look beter, Like it seems my old Tivo (i have the original with no subscription) looks better than a lot of recordings of my pvr-250's. > I've seen 5200 with dvi outs (like this, but this is 5500,> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130197), i> have a 52" lg dlp tv with dvi input, my cable and my dvd player go to> the 2 composite inputs, would getting this video card could i then run > it in progressive so no deinterlacing required? You will want to deinterlace all interlaced video you pass over the DVIoutput. Normally, your TV would deinterlace the NTSC and any interlacedATSC video coming in through its tuner/component/S-Video/composite inputs, but it simply displays the DVI signal as input. So, if youdon't deinterlace, you'll see interlacing artifacts since your TV is notinterlaced. The problem is the interlaced input--all your recordings off PVR-x50's are interlaced because NTSC is interlaced. Than i'm confused, my TV can display 1080i and 720p (480p and others, but those are the two highest resolutions), so i thought 1080i was interlaced display, so if the video going over dvi was interlaced wouldn't that show fine as long as the dvi select was for 1080i? I'll admit i'm a bit slow when it comes to all this stuff with HighDef resolutions between tv and computers, so thanks for the help. [mythtv-users] Sound Repeats
I just did a re install of mythtv. Reasons range from I just put in a new motherboard that has sound on the motherboard, the newer dimm slots for pc 2700 ram, new nvidia 5200 (had old sis 315), to upgrading to knoppmyth ra22 (was on RA12). I know this is the main list for mythtv, i only use knoppmyth cause it's quick and easy, than i modify from there. Also, was having problems where periodicily it would stop recordings 40 minutes into the recording. Hope the new mother board and memory rectifies it, plus new myth install. If not probably have a bad pvr-250, and that would suck. Anyways, with the new install everything works. But anytime i exit live tv or a recording the last .5 seconds of the show or tv program repeats for about 12-15 seconds. Like if the person was saying 99 cents, 99 cents would repeat about 30 times, maybe less maybe more. It's really annoying. I've noticed that it's not just myth, it's sound. Like when i ran mythrestore (knoppmyths restoring of the database and such from my previous install) it plays a sound at the beginning and end. That sound also repeats over and over for awhile. Anyone know what's going on and should i just install a third party sound card? Don't want to cause this mobo didn't have a lan on board so i have less pci slots, and the agp card seems to over lap the closest pci slot, so that takes another one away also. Anyways hope y'all can help me out. Re: [mythtv-users] why do i have a 2 gig limit on avi files
It's an mplayer thing, well not just mplayer, but that's the default player for avi files. Couple things. It doesn't have support for large files configured by default: You need to enable support for large files and your glibc must support it. ./configure --help --enable-largefilesenable support for files > 2 GBytes [disable] Second, i would search the mplayer mailing lists. I think you also need to run the option -idx if you need to seek, that can take a long time, so there is the -saveidx and -loadidx but i've never used those. You might see a mplayer mailing where it didn't work for me, xvid 2gb limit or something, back then i never got it working, but i did at some point. Since my system crashed with my new harddrive, i haven't gotten aroudn to "refixing" it yet, but i'm sure it'll work for you. Also, are you transcoding into divx or xvid? I think those are the only two options, i could be wrong, anyways you might want to download the newest codecs, newest mplayer source, and compile them. Just my thoughts on the subject. Hope it works for you.On 10/14/05, jondz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: HiI'm new(re-subscribed) to the list.Has anybody encountered this before: I seem tohave a 2 gigabyte limit on avi files (transcodedmovies). [mythtv-users] Recordings Fail
Ok, so if my system is up for a day or longer, the system fails. It doesn't crash. I run mythbackend and frontend out of xterm windows. After a restart it will record no problem forever, i mean i set it up to record like 10 hours on each pvr 250 (i have 2), with no problem. But if it sits for awhile, than at times it fails. Like i'll check the watch recordings and the last recording stopped at say like 41:00 into the show, and no more shows scheduled for after that recording will record. If i try to go into the schedule recordings program guide, it locks up. No errors are shown that i can see. Next time it happens I'll try to write everything down, but i've never really seen any error messages. It's almost like it fails to access the database or something. It happens every couple days or every day even. It's like i have to reboot the system every day at 5:00pm to make sure it records my shows for the nite. It really sucks. I never had this problem before with the same system. The only change is the new 300gig harddrive. Now i don't know if perhaps one of the PVR-250 has failed, but it's not always the same one that fails i think. I'll try to record at different times to see if a certain one locks it up, but like lost records 1 minute past 10: and i was recording law and order last nite, lost recorded fine on the first encoder, but law and order failed at 41:33 into the show. Other times there has been no other show recording so it was only the first recorder recording and that's failed, so don't think its that. Could it really be the harddrive? But why would it be able to start but not finish? I used to have a problem before this harddrive, where if i transcoded something, when it ended the same thing happened. Like if i accidently hit the transcode button but than stopped it, it would do the thing where I couldn't access the program guide, locks up mythtv, and would stop any recordings in progress. I know it only happens at the end, because i transcoded a DVD to XVID and it recorded all the shows while it was running, a few hours, but as soon as it finished, it locked up like that. And it only locks up the program guide, i can go to watch recordings and stuff like that. Don't know about live tv, never use it so never checked. [mythtv-users] NVIDIA 5200 vs SiS 315
Ok i just upgraded to .17 and have always used an SiS 315 video card, with an amd 850 and 384mb of ram. With the SiS i got about 30% cpu free with live tv and one recording, drops up and down but averages 30%. When I upgraded I decided to try out a NVIDIA 5200 I had lying around, but I only got 10% or less of CPU free. I even dropped frames. So i turned on XvMC and got 70% CPU free but I couldn't handle the choppy video "prebuffering pauses" and couldn't find a solution online anywhere. My questions is, I would really like the use the 5200, it's output is so much cleaner and better looking on the TV but 10% and less CPU free is not acceptable, nor is the choppiness of the XvMC turned on. Is there anything I can do? Has anyone fixed the prebuffering pauses problem? Lastly, out of curiousity what is the best deintilacer option in Setup>TV SEttings>Playback? I keep seeing posts about Bob and such, but wanted to know what one was the best? BTW those with pundits, I don't seem to have any problem with running Bob with my 315 which i believe is the same chipset the Pundit is based on. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
