[mythtv-users] liveTV using 100% CPU
Hi, I upgrade my system via ATrpms to the latest mythTV RPMS. Unfortunately now the CPU usage goes up to 100% when I watch live TV. I have use XV controls switched on. When I select output via XvMC the CPU usage becomes 50% (still way too high) and sound has lots of dropouts. Anyone knows how I can fix this or what options affect this performance ? Before the upgrade everything was perfect and live TV hardly used any CPU. I'm using ivtv with a PVR-350. Re: [mythtv-users] liveTV using 100% CPU
Hello Brian, Are you perchance using an nVidia card with the nVidia drivers? I have the same CPU usage problem and I've read that the latest nVidia binary drivers cause this problem. Of course, trying to regress back to an older driver results in a won't build problem here on a Gentoo system, but I am still working on it. In that case I think that the problem is within mythTV itself because other applications (liek xine) that use XV have no issues. Anyway, I will try to start an older kernel and older nvidia drivers just to see if that works. If so, I'll simply stick to that for now. Thanks, Marcel ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

This has been the best option I've found so far - video is quite smooth (though I haven't compared it back-to-back yet with my standalone DVD player). I'll try both xshm and xxmc with xine and see if there's any difference. As far as MythTV goes, Bob deinterlacing is the only way I can get good smooth video. XVMC will as well, but it's fairly unstable for me. The only drawback to Bob is that it causes the OSD to flicker a bit. I can live with that, however, though I hope someday it might get fixed. :) Bob indeed seems to make things more smooth, but still isn't perfect. [mythtv-users] smooth video
Hi, I'm having a small issue with getting my video to play smooth in both mythTV and xine. I expect it's not directly related to mythTV or xine but rather something on my system. When I play TV/recordings or any file/DVD with xine I first set my X to a framerate that is appropriate for the format (50Hz for PAL or 59.97 , 71.9Hz for other formats). I'm using a CRT projector with RGB and V/H sync and have my Nvidia FX5700 connected directly to this projector, which should be optimal. I don't see tearing so I think the Vsync is OK but do see very small jumps which are well visible in fast moving images. I'm using FC4 with standard kernel (latest I think) and use most packages from ATrpms, except xine which I compile mostly myself from cvs. Does anyone have tips ? Re: [mythtv-users] very serious A/V sync issues
Hello Matt, Sounds to me like the opengl_vsync issue. You need to recompile Myth without opengl_vsync set. I don't think anyone has found a different work-around. I did this and everything was peachy. It's worth a try, anyway. Search for it on the list if you aren't sure what this means. I've already tried that but found no difference. Besides that I think the ATrpms mythtv packages are compiled with the opengl_vsync disabled. Anyways, thanks the suggestion. I'v tried really a lot of things by now and nothing seems to have either positive or negative influence on the A/V sync. As a last resort I will try to trace back through CVS to find a version that still works for me hoping to find out what commit caused the problem on my system. [mythtv-users] very serious A/V sync issues
Hi, When I record a program in mythtv it plays out of sync in mythtv (audio is up to 2 seconds ahead of video) mplayer plays the recorded files (the nuv files I recording with mythtv) perfectly in sync. This makes me believe that the recorded files are OK but mythtv playback is wrong here. Now, it could be a problem with mythtv in relation to my system (fully up to date FC3 with ATrpms), but since I have no problems with any other video related software (xine, mplayer, oggle, xawtv etc) I have no clue left what I could change on my system except mythtv to solve the issue. Which options affect A/V sync ? If it is a bug in mythtv (which I believe), how can I analyze the problem or submit data on this issue ? When watching live TV and playing recordings, the audio is about a second ahead of video. I've been trying mythtv and xine (all possible output modes) and was amazed that my old G550 has better image quality than this rather new FX5700. I switched back to the G550 and take for granted that the maximum resolution I can get is not as large as the FX5700 can do. Quality means more to me than resolution and the Matrox card clearly won that in my case (CRT projection with 2m*1.5m screen so you'll see all artefacts easily :-) ). xvmc using the FX5700 seems to have best quality but I need gamma correction (which I found was not possible so this option wasn't suitable for my setup). I was actually surpriced by these results as I thought that the FX5700 would win in quality over the G550. Unfortunately it didn't unless it needs some serious tweaking.
