[mythtv-users] following jarod's guide, missing packages?
OK, time for some newbie questions. I've struggled through Jarod's guide (no reflection on the guide, it's very informative, I just have a very strong learning curve here). I wasn't sure about the partitioning, but I think i got it. For the /video set it to jfs, i left it at 100mb and checked "fill to maximum allowable size"? My real problem is this: I'm stuck at the package selection screen, I don't see KDE Desktop Environment, but i do see GNOME Desktop I don't see MySQL Database or Web Server or any of the items he lists as optional. I've checked the details of the options I do see. All I see is Applications/Editors Servers/Mail Server and DNS Name Server Development Tools and System/Language Support and Printing Support This is the cd set for Core 4 that I am working with. I'm just going to leave it here until I figure this out. [mythtv-users] barebones MSI Hetis 865GV-E questions
I'm looking at MSI Hetis 865GV-E for my mythtv box. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16856101227 This will be a front and back end, stand alone. I might turn it into a front end later and build a bigger backend. But for now, this is it. I have a haup 150 card, and just got a seagate barracuda 200gig drive and a gforce MX 4000 card (i think that's what it was called, don't have it here with me) card for x-mas This processor seems to be on sale: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819112208 And I'll need memory http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820221141 seems to be as good as anything. I'm not a fedora user, but yes, rescue mode off the cd should give you access to the disks you need - assuming your issues isn't something like 2 master HD's on one IDE channel. Once you are in rescue mode, you should be able to mount /dev/hda2 to something like /mnt/root (you might have to mkdir /mnt/root first). Once mounted, edit /mnt/root/etc/fstab to as needed with your editor of choice. Make sure that hda isn't hdb (or c or d) after adding the other disk and that your bios is trying to boot off the correct HD. [mythtv-users] forced to use xv?
When watching live tv and recordings, does myth use xv or the mplayer settings from the videos => player => settings page? The reason I ask is because I have mplayer working with '-vo x11' but '-vo xv' gives me funky artifacts on playback. Mythvideo seems to use the settings by live tv and recordings seem to ignore them. I have also tried adding the settings to .mplayer/config to no avail. I wasn't able to see exactly what this item is - if it's a case/motherboard combo, then it has too few PCI slots. In summary, get lots of memory, lots of disk storage, lots of PCI slots. You will soon find that you are having so much fun building your first computer, that you will wish for more space to record programs, more tuners to record programs on at the same time, and more PCI slots to add HDTV tuners. Thanks for the tips, here is the barebones system: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16856160006 Here are the slots it has: Expansion Slots AGP None PCI Express 1 x PCI Express x16 / 1 x PCI Express x 1 PCI 2 I was trying to find a case that wouldn't look too weird in my entertainment center, with out having to do 2 machines and hiding one in another room or whatever. I just joined this list, as I very recently discovered MythTV. I have never built a computer my self. My experience is limited to upgrades (new hard drive here, more ram there), very basic. [mythtv-users] Xawtv works MythTV Live TV & Recording don't
After switching to CVS to solve the DST problem, I found that, while my program listings were correct, I could no longer watch Live TV or record. Myth isn't seeing my TV Wonder VE. I've cleaned CVS and rebuilt, rebuilt the driver and kernel (2.6.11-r5), moved the card into different PCI slots, changed my configuration in /etc/modules.d/bttv, etc. I've even shut everything down, rebuilt the kernel + bttv module, booted into the kernel, and then rebuilt Myth from CVS (after 'make clean'ing). I have searched the list archives for any possible solution and tried everything I've found. I have worked and searched on this problem for about 10 hours over the past few days. I still have no luck. I can't figure out if it's just a config or something simple, but I'm not completely new to the *nix platform and ran this box with MythTV for about 6 months before the DST problem. I can view TV through Xawtv with the -noxv option (no sound) and verify sound with the alsa configuration utility. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. If you think it's a "newb" problem, please, instead of flaming, just point me somewhere (I've tried google, various list archives, and every related HOWTO I can find). I've been running this box exclusively for MythTV for about 6 months and have upgraded and tweaked things, but I've never had a problem until I went to CVS. I was running 0.17 before, but it was the ebuild from Gentoo. I've tried everything I can think of that would nail down that it's just a TV Wonder VE thing, but I keep coming back to the conclusion that something changed between the 0.17 Gentoo ebuild and yesterday's CVS release that fixed the daylight savings problem and it's causing a problem with my card. > > On Apr 5, 2005 12:18 PM, Travis Gilbert > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Due to the Daylight Savings issues, I switched > from > > Gentoo's ebuild of MythTV to the latest CVS. [mythtv-users] Newest CVS broke TV Wonder VE (well I probably did, but this sounds better)
Due to the Daylight Savings issues, I switched from Gentoo's ebuild of MythTV to the latest CVS. I unmerged mythtv and related packages (mythvideo, mythdvd, etc.), but left supporting packages like mysql. The patch works great for fixing the time problem so thank you for that. However, my TV Wonder VE does not work anymore. I did not change the driver, it's a module built with my 2.6 kernel. Now if I try and watch TV using MythTV, Myth tells me all available inputs are used for recording. I can verify that nothing's recording though, and Myth's System Status says my tuner is not available. I also obviously can't record anything, but there's no error message I can find about that. I've tried playing with my bttv module settings, but no luck. All I did was unmerge the myth ebuilds and then follow these instructions for going to CVS: (cd /usr/local && mkdir mythtv && cd mythtv) cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mythcvs login cvs -z3 -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mythcvs checkout mythtv cvs -z3 -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mythcvs checkout mythvideo cvs -z3 -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mythcvs checkout mythmusic cvs -z3 -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/lib/mythcvs checkout mythweather cd mythtv ./configure --enable-mp3lame --enable-vorbis qmake mythtv.pro make make install cd .. cd mythmusic ./configure --enable-all qmake mythmusic.pro make make install cd .. cd mythvideo qmake mythvideo.pro make make install cd .. cd mythweather qmake mythweather.pro make make install cd .. These instructions were taken from http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/~fittond/myth_tv_dvb-t.html and I left out mythweb and mythdvd 'cause I don't need them. MythWeather is fine and so is playing back my saved recordings, but new recording and live tv is broken. Any ideas? Now, I am using Xorg and my old XFree86 config file doesn't work as an xorg.conf file (even after a lot of editting). My question is then two-fold. 1) If someone is using the onboard TV out with the i810 driver (I'm actually using the 865 chipset), I would love to see a working Xorg.conf. 2) Is there a good autoconfiguring, xorg-based, iso distribution that I can steal a working xorg.conf for my TV from? I have the i865G chipset on my myth box with the Chrontel chip described above. My board has vga, RCA, s-video, and dvi options for video out. In linux, I have only been able to get the vga (obviously) and RCA output to work. The cavet with the RCA out is that the vga connector can't be plugged in at boot (or after) if you want the TV out. I have been unable to verfiy whether the dvi plug works the same way as the RCA (no way to test), but the s-video seems to be worthless in linux. You were right on with the sym-links, that is exactly what I do. My setup is like this: /video/videos is the folder I point myth to when I want to add a video source I can do it like so $ ln -s /mnt/server-share /video/videos which gives your /video/videos/server-share or $ ln -s /mnt/server-share /video/videos/dvds which gives your /video/videos/dvds either way works. if you want to see where your symlinks point use the -l option with ls $ ls -l /video/videos dvds -> /mnt/server-share If later you need to remove them, remember not to have a trailing slash with rm $ rm /video/videos/dvds works but not $ rm /video/videos/dvds works/ Hope this helps. -- Travis ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] Lightweight window manager recommendation
I've been using Myth on my dedicated fc1 box for roughly one year now and have only wonderful things to say. During the holidays I am planning on performing some hardware upgrades to my system and am will be installing gentoo on my Myth box. I haven't ventured far in the relm of window managers (I prefer gnome myself) so I was looking for a recommendation on a lightweight wm that would offer a slight increase in performance from KDE. I've seen blackbox and fvwm mentioned in the mythtv.org howto and would appreciate any more information whether one is preferrable or if there are other undocumented alternatives. id have to find my little sheet, but basicly i used some '74138' ics and had them connect to the D0-6 pins ( i think it was awhile ago i'd hvae to look my digram) and then each out put from then 74138 ( each one has 3 in's and 8 outs) connected to a buffer ( depending on the 74138 some need an inverter) and each buffer had a relay, so all you would do was right a script that sent a number to the parrele port ( usally has to be run as root) and the port lights up certian Dx;s for the number ie. " 3 " would turn on D0,D1 and then the 74138 would take that in and fire it's 3rd out put. if you think you somewhat under stand this i can make a howto or something ( i just have to find my dirgram of how i did this i build my deal like 2 years about, it just sits tucked in it's little corner ) -travis From: nate s <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: nate s <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,Discussion about mythtv <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Discussion about mythtv <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Dish channel changing Re: [mythtv-users] Feature Suggestions(Tivo) Date: Sat, 4 Dec 2004 11:21:42 -0800 I've been wondering how exactly something like that would be done for some time. Date: Thu, 2 Dec 2004 16:01:00 -0600 Hi guys, First of all, please have mercy on this MythTV Newbie... I'm a happy DishPlayer 7100 PVR user and I read a blurb about 'MythTV' in the dishrip group and thought I'd check it out. All I can say is "WOW!"... It's amazing what you guys have collectively put together!!! So, I'd love to get started building a system, and as chance would have it, I've already got most (if not all) of the hardware necessary to build a MythTV system. (Hauppauge PVR-350, Athlon XP 1800, 512 ram, Matrox Millennium G450 Dual Head, 120GB HDD, DVD +/-R/RW, etc.) But here's where the trouble comes in -- I've got very little experience with Linux to date. I'm highly technical, and quite proficient on PC Hardware and the Windows side of the world, but very little exposure to Linux. I'm no stranger to command-line interfaces (I work with mainframe systems that are all 'cli' based), so that aspect of Linux doesn't bother me at all. It's just all the 'little' Linux-specific commands and stuff that you're supposed to know before attempting something like this that bothers me... With that in mind, is it even possible for me to put this together without having to have somebody 'hold my hand' through the whole process??? Is it a really complex procedure (that it seems to be), or is there a simple step-by-step guide of what to do that even a monkey could follow? (Not that I'm a monkey, but when it comes to Unix/Linux, my exposure has only been about 99% just using it, from a shell prompt, and not installing/compiling/configuring it.) Are there any ISO images that I can download to get started? I guessing that many of my questions may be answered in the archives, but I haven't been able to find out how to search them like I can do with the Yahoo or Google news groups... Is there one?
