Subject: [mythtv-users] (Slightly OT) Multi room Multimedia playback

I'm curious if anyone has ever heard of a good solution to say play back
an audio stream in many rooms at the same time, while keeping it in sync
enough so they didn't clash.

I'm guessing something like a server program running on all machines
waiting for audio and some kind of command like

AudioLink 3,4

to link the computers audio in rooms 3 and 4 to the audio on whatever
computer is running. Once linked anything played on that computer would
also play on 3 and 4. I think I heard something along these lines with
mp3's before, but I don't remember the details.

For now at least I'm using a couple twisted pairs in a network cable to
run audio to different places. I tend to need to isolate them with
audio transformers, and the quality is not quite what I'd ideally like,
but it does work.. (The best way to run pure analog audio multiple
places is likely using the differential (balanced) connections used in
professional audio equipment, but then you get to the messy conversions
required for normal equipment..)

Hi,

there is nice project www.plutohome.org that does multi room synhro and
includes mythtv, but audio is treated through Xine and VLC, but in multi
room fashion...

Regards,

Rob.

http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-usersMFD is on the MythTV SVN server under its own branch. It uses RTP to sync audio on multiple speakers to near delta zero time-sync. Still in development last I looked at it but getting better every day. If you want to useMFE in the place of MythMusic it will take some modifying of your current theme's and of course firing up the MFD on all the speakers as well as the source of all your music files. If there's interest maybe I can type more but I'm sure I know little compared to what you can get from looking on SVN.

I think Slimserver- http://www.slimdevices.com/ running either to
squeezebox devices, (alternatively there are emulators to play the
stream) will do what you're suggesting. Not 100% sure how to do
from command line at server, but should be possible.

A yr or so ago there a few e-mails trying to generate some interest in
trying to integrate slimserver into mythtv, but I've not seen
anything...

I think slimserver would be an excellent addition/replacement to
mythmusic. I as well don't know how to link zones of audio
through a command line but have done it before from the webpage and it
works wonderfully. It also does a great job at resampling audio
on the fly for mobile workstations, computers at work etc... That
also might be a good way to solidfy the playlist creation from client
to client.

what you're asking for is the mfd/mfe which can do exactly what you
want. can playback audio on multiple mfe's while keeping them in
sync, is quite cool.

to install the mfe you will have to download and build the source from
svn because as far as i know there aren't any binaries that people
maintain of the mfd/mfe.

You don't need the squeezebox device, just a computer with a web browser and
mp3 player.

And you can control it without the web browser if you are prepared to do some
scripting.

Ahhh well i tdidn't see that, but I think this would be prefereable to
the current mythmusic arrangement.

OK you got me - googling mfd/mfe goves me my favourite doll - got any
more info or a pointer to what you are talking about?

Thanks :-)

There are others who know better than I but ...
