Re: [mythtv-users] HD3000/FC4 not working

2006-01-27 Thread Nick
How do I change udev?Right now my script just chmods /dev/dvb to 666 butchanging the udev makes more sense.Do you not need cx88-blackbird at
allL?Here is the steps I usedhttp://pchdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=944
What's your data source?Antenna or cable?I am using pure OTA antenna.
I do have an Athlon 2800+that I'm currently using for something else that I can draft into serviceas the mythbox. For the moment I was just doing a proof of concept withwhat I had lying around.Does your HD stutter at all?

I don't have any HD stutter. I'm thinkinganother 512MB of RAM would probably help there.
I believe this would help because when I look at my Which output from the
video card are you using?Right now I'm watching on a VGA monitor buteventually I'm going to go DVI to my bigscreen TV.im using the DVI to my mits tv
What do you mean?I haven't messed with sound much yet. What sound cardare you using?I have the onboard AC97 via for now, but plan to up that soon to get digital SPDIF.What I was finding is that there was severe jerkiness with the ALSA drivers on non HD digital content

[mythtv-users] HD3000/FC4 not working

2006-01-26 Thread jason

I spent most of last night looking through the list archive and googling
but still can't make headway with my setup. If I missed something please
feel free to tell me to RTFM, as long as you point me to the FM.

I'm setting up 0.18.2 on FC4 using an Nvidia 5200-based card and an
HD3000 with an OTA antenna. The system is an Athlon 1700+ with 512MB of
RAM and the latest FC4 kernel and nvidia drivers.

I followed Jarod's FC how-to and I have myth installed and configured but
a couple of things are still wrong. After a reboot I have to manually
modprobe cx88-dvb then chmod /dev/dvb/adapter0/* so that the mythtv user
can read the video card. (The latest HD3000 firmware is being loaded.)
Once I do that, if I tell myth that the card is a standard v4l it'll pull
in stations but the quality is far worse than with a TV hooked up to the
same line. It won't let me do a channel scan when set as a standard v4l
card and the audio is often out of sync with the video.

When I set the capture card type as dvb it'll do a channel scan and find
plenty of channels and they do come in very clearly, but they stutter a
lot even though the CPU load is only about .75 and there is at least 100MB
of free RAM. But it doesn't find most of the standard channels that come
in (albeit fuzzy) in V4L. Also, the audio that comes through the HD3000
when in V4L mode isn't there in DVB mode. No TV audio comes out of the
sound card, a chaintech 7.1, though Linux is able to use it just fine.
It's possible that myth is sending the audio to the S/PDIF port but I
haven't had a chance to check that yet.

Any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks to me like you hd3000 is working just fine, at least in DVB mode. Your
problems now are mythtv/video settings and audio card settings. A good
way to test this is capture a video stream and play outside of myth, with
mplayer or something, and you may notice the playback is fine.

And, I feel yor pain. I have a new Nvidia 5200 card and I get the same
stuttering,
only within myth, even with low CPU usage (see my current e-mails since last
night). Nobody has been able to help yet.

I pop my ATI 9600 card in - and everything is perfect.

I tried that and it isn't finding the cx88-atsc module. I see it in the
extras tarball, but it won't build. The last compile error is:

/usr/local/src/pcHDTV-extras/v4l2-driver/cx88-atsc.c: In function

Do I really need it? Where else can I get that module?

dvb is for digital tv, while v4l is for analog tv. i believe hd-3000 in
v4l mode uses line-in for the audio. but in dvb mode, the audio should
 be embeded in the stream.

I may have explained it poorly last time. In analog mode I can hear audio
through the HD3000's audio out port. In dvb mode I can't.

and it seems a lot of people are having problem with hd-3000 since the dvb
driver was included in the kernel. it used to work fine for me when i had

Has a workaround been found or is the fix to either downgrade or buy
another card?

I am running pretty much the exact same setup but with more CPU
2800 AMD 64 (running 32 system though)
1gb ram
5200
HD3000
2.6.14-1.1653_FC4
 8178 Nvidia kernel

I currently unload the cx88-blackbird then load cx88-dvb manually upon start.
You need to change the udev to add the mythtv group to the /dev/dvb/*

I record both HD and regular digital content.
My main weirdness was that I couldn't get just alsa working.
I am running the KDE sound system with autodetect and it will switch between ALSA for HD channels and OSS for regular digital

otherwise I haven't had any problems with recording or playback

lemme know if I can share anything
