Re: [mythtv-users] MythTV Frontend doesn't show on the TV
Nick, I found the problem and have fixed it, it was the frame buffer setting in my xorg.conf. I do have another question if anybody knows how? I would like to run Dual Heads without any aspect ratio or desktop showing issues on the TV. I have looked at most of the threads on the issue but most of them are quite dated. Anybody running dual heads in FC4 with a PVR-350 using the output on said card I would greatly appreciate your help. BTW my regular video card is an ATI 9600 XT. I am running FC4 with a PVR-350. I can go into the MythTV frontend and click on Watch TV and that pipes out to the TV and I can do everything fine. [mythtv-users] mythtv frontend
Hi, I have not tried it myself but there is a Myth Knoppix dist that might be what you are after: http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html If you have an EPIA-M mobo there is a mini-myth proj for running mythtv on a disk less system: http://linpvr.org/ (which I have not tried). My MythTV backend (also sometimes FE) is running on a Via Epia-MII. The comp is not entirely quiet but with a little work it could probably made quieter. The noise is from CPU fan, PSU fan and a little HDD noise. Regarding a network connection, I have found that MythTV works well over a 54G wireless connection. I have tried using 11b before but it a little too slow for the level of traffic. Re: [mythtv-users] mythtv frontend
It depends 1. Do you want SD or HD 2. Do you want a full frontend or just something to watch tv on. 3. How are you recording tv (pvr encoder or framegrabber) I use a MediaMVP for viewing tv in my bedroom and it works great. No fluff, just TV. Alot of ppl use xbox as a frontend. There is work being to use Roku boxes as well. It all depends on what you want to do. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] mythtv frontend
Hi people I have been doing a bit of googling for an answer but haven't been able to come up with much so came here for an answer. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with ... 1. I am looking to setup a mythtv frontend that is : small, diskless, cheap, not noisy, and will work over a 802.11g wireless network. Is this possible and if so does anyone have any suggestions. Even if it is a commercial product I don't mind (but would still rather building something mini-itx myself). 2. Is it possible to use a thin-client as a mythtv frontend? Would it require 100Mbit ethernet to handle the video throughput? How much ram would the thin-client need? thanks for any help pantz ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

There should be a file in this called mysql.txt which contains settings for the database host name/address, user, password, and database name (mythconverg). You should be able to edit this to make things work again. Check one of the other user's settings, and use those. [mythtv-users] Mythtv frontend directly to framebuffer (without X)?
Hi all, I've gone through the last 5 months of archive but I can't find a reference to my question #1. I guess I should describe my setup first: a) I have compiled and installed MythTV (despite the random segfault issues with gcc). b) I use my 2.4 GHz Celeron as a backend. I have a WinTV card that works great to watch TV (I used tvtime to watch tv on it) and I have enough disk space for my (current) needs. c) I want to use my T20 thinkpad laptop (its screen is dead, but I have an LCD attached to it and an S-video port out) as a frontend. It is a 750 MHz with 192 MB of RAM. I have used it to watch DVDs under X when I used XFree's X server but now that I use Xorg's X server, the XV extension doesn't work (even though it says in my log that it loaded fine). I am thus forced to use the framebuffer directly to have decent speed when I playback a DVD. (if you need to know, if I play a DVD on my X session, I have a blue window where the video should appear in). d) I'm running Mandrake 10.1 PowerPack+ on all my machines. Anyways, so here goes my questions (my apologies if I'm beating a dead cat): 1) Is it possible to have Myth Frontend directly on the framebuffer, instead of using X (to bypass my XV pb)? Mplayer was able to write to the framebuffer with no issues and since MythTV uses xine or mplayer to play movies I thought there might be a chance it would work. 2) my brother uses XP MCE and it was able to play from his music store while browsing his digital pictures. Is MythTV able to do the same, or is it a one activity at a time kind of thing? 3) when I want to rip up a CD or a DVD, should I insert it in the backend or the frontend? If I want to play a DVD, I would prefer be able to do on the frontend, but playing is different than ripping. 4) a more technical question: I registered to labs.zap2it.com but mythtv-setup cannot download data from their webservice portal. Is there any trick to make it work? Thanks to all who will respond. I have search on the net for the info but it did not answer my questions as well as you certainly would. Most video drivers can only create an Xv drawable on one screen, so the other screen gets the Xv color key. So, do you have X configured to use multiple screens (i.e. the dead laptop screen and the S-video output or the LCD and the S-Video or the LCD and the dead laptop screen)? Mike Actually, I think you are right on. The T20 has a key combo using the Fn key to select where the video should output to. There are 3 options: built-in LCD, external monitor or both. Since my external monitor is showing the image, it may be possible it is setup for option both. I will try tonight to see if that would help it at all. I have compiled and installed s3switch on my laptop to enable the S-video out, but there too I don't think Xv works. I have heard of issues with Xv on S-video with the Savage chipset, but I don't think I am using a Savage2000. Also, when I setup my X resolution to 800x600 or 640x480, there is almost no slowdown or choppiness on the output, even without Xv. So I might not need it at all. And just a note for people needing for information on TV out with a Thinkpad running Mandrake 10.1: you need to compile and install s3switch, then reboot and do not run a framebuffer at boot. Select linux-nofb during the lilo prompt. Then verify the configuration of your X server so that it supports 800x600 or 640x480 and using the krandr tray, select one of those modes. Then with s3switch you will be able to output to tv with the command: s3switch tv If the output is messed up, garbled, ant-like, weird, not right, looking as if it was on a bad frequence, then check again that there is no framebuffer (/dev/fb0 should NOT exist). [mythtv-users] MythTV frontend for Mac OS X testimony requests
Hello everyone, I'm a french independent journalist preparing an investigation on the Mac mini as a Media Center projects for the french magazine Univers Mac. I'd like to get testimonies of MythTV frontend for Mac OS X users. Here are my preliminary questions : - What made you when did you decided to use your Mac as a MythTV frontend ? - What your software and hardware configuration (including remote) ? - What problems did you encounter ? - Does it finally meets your needs ? - Do you run it on a dayt-to-day basis ? - What do you think about all the hyper regarding Mac mini as a Media Center ? - What do you think about competing Media Center frontends projects ? - What do you think about Apple's inaction in this field ?
