Around about 24/06/05 00:08, Isaac Richards typed ... If a theme is not designed for 100dpi, it's broken. So what's the recommended DPI for wide-screen (16:9) TVs? If I set my X config. to 100x100 DPI, then Myth thinks I've a 4:3 TV and have issues getting the playback aspect ration correct. I put a 'correct' DisplaySize into xorg.conf to ensure Myth realised I had 16:9, but that didn't do the themes any favours. I've now nadgered it to be 100x133, but I have a couple on places where I suspect this is stuffing vertical font positioning (as it's 133 not 100). I didn't actually notice that much difference when I did this, FWIW; I was expecting all the fonts to suddenly be vastly different sizes. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# rm -f .signature [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# ls -l .signature ls: .signature: No such file or directory [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# exit ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I really like this color scheme. I personally like to use the "short date" format which includes the Day of Week. In min2.jpg it looks like using that format would cause an overlap. The problem also exists with the Titivillus theme, and I have a three line patch which give me just enough room to squeeze the Day of Week in there. Since no one else complains about that, I guess no one else likes the Day of Week to show on that screen. I have no problem continuing to patch the theme whenever I do a new install. Not being at 100dpi when you build you theme leads to all kinda of uglyness in the themes. Though if you resused the various layouts in the *ui.xml files then you're probably ok since the ones that ship with Myth are laid out using 100dpi. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Themes are designed to be viewed at standard viewing distances on a 27inch display with and 800x600 display running at 100dpi. For example, the "do you really want to exit mythtv" options and the delete recording submenu. Everything else seems to be hardcoded in to the themes. Unfortunately, the themes seem to define the font sizes for nearly every line of text individually. Hi, I created MythCenter and intended it to work with the Trebuchet MS font (part of the ms corefonts). Set your resolution to 800x600 and MythTV font sizes to default values (small:12,medium:16,large:25). I didn't set any dpi settings in my xorg.conf, so with all these defaults, the theme should display fine. On my machine, changing those has never done anything and I don't know why. That's why I eventually used the dpi hack method. From reading the other messages, it seems that most people try changing the font sizes first, then fall back to changing the dpi when that doesn't work. So... what's wrong? Why don't the font items in the config menu change anything? Does it have to do with the environment? I'm running Myth on a Debian machine using AfterStep as my WM. Aside from font issues, I haven't had any problems at all. I agree. I tried changing the font size in setup and it didn't appear to make any difference to anything. I'm using the MythCenter theme if that makes any difference. Maybe it's a theme support thang? Change or add a DisplaySize line in your Xorg.conf (or equivalent) Monitor section. You can make the fonts huge that way if you want. Start with: DisplaySize 182 121 and then try values like 150 100 and 300 200 instead. Restart the X server after each change and note the difference. Note that doing this will change X's computed DPI: DisplaySize width height This optional entry gives the width and height, in millimetres, of the picture area of the monitor. If given this is used to calculate the horizontal and vertical pitch (DPI) of the screen. which will result in images and text failing to line up properly in several themes (i.e. arrows will be too high/low in the MythVideo List view, "highlighted" or "boxed in" text may not appear in the highlight/box, etc.) since the themes are designed for displays using 100 dpi. A better way to change fonts (assuming the theme designer did not provide for changes using small/default/big font settings--which can be changed in setup) is to customize the theme and specify the desired font sizes. Search the archives for more info on how to do this (especially how to do it without having to edit the theme every time you upgrade).
