Re: [mythtv-users] Australian Setup Help Needed

2005-03-08 Thread Phill Edwards
I have 2 VisionPlus VisionDTV TER (i believe they're rebranded twinhan cards
or something). They work really well for me, no effort at all to get working
with linux + myth. Got them for $115 each.

Any other recommendations on good/easy to install configure digital
TV cards to use for Australia from anyone? I'd been steering clear of
digital because there are lots of tales of woe with them in this list!

Also, what sort of disk space are you using for a 1hr program with a
digital card on SD settings?

The DPANDA card (from dpanda.com.au) works out of the box with all the
recent 2.6 kernels. Nova-Ts will as well, if you get one of the older
ones; the brand new ones require the latest kernel + patches still I
think.

Also, what sort of disk space are you using for a 1hr program with a

Anywhere from 2.5 to 4 Gb, depending on the station.

Try the freq nonetheless, maybe they'll work?

Nup, the digital channels are on different frequencies.

(ABC is on channel 12, for example.)

I've got a couple of KWorld Xpert PCI cards. You can get them from
Jaycar for $179, or online from auspcmarket.com.au for $132 shipped.

It's not supported in a released kernel yet so it's a bit of effort to
get working. You have to get the kernel source and patch it to add/fix
the drivers.

2005-02-06 Thread Phill Edwards
 I have a few questions:

 1. Do i need to add the free to air channels by had or is
mythfilldatabase ment to do them for me?

When I set mine up I found it easier to do it by hand in the channel
setup screens.

  2. If I am ment to add them by hand (which i have no problem doing)
Where can i get a list of the frequencies that I need to use for the
different channels in Melbourne?? I have seen an example for channel 7
on a site but dont know where to get the rest of them from.

If you still need this, let me know. I think someone posted one to the
list, though, so you should be OK now.

Thanks for the link, the only problem with that list is that it seems
to be for the Digital TV not the standard def tv.

I only have a standard Definition card atm, so that wont help.

I am looking at getting a digital card, what would you all suggest??
What has been the quickest one to setup, that works out of the box (as
in no need to install lots of drivers) and also is able to be brought
in australia (pref in melbourne).

Thanks all for the help so far, it is all starting to come together now :)

The term Standard Definition TV refers to digital TV which may have
confused people. You mean that you only have analogue, I think?

I only have channel numbers for the Sydney frequencies. however, you
could lok at your existing settings on your TV and note down which
freqiencies each channel is tuned to, then look up the channel number
for that at this link (you have to tell MythTV the channel number, not
the frequency):
