[neonixie-l] Trying to Locate Nixie Vendor

2016-03-25 Thread Jeff Walton

Anyone here had contact recently with Juergen Grau? ("Mr. Nixie" - runs
nixiekits.eu)

Have been unsuccessfully trying to contact him for over a month and I'm
hoping that he is just on a long vacation and nothing more. Anyhow, with
as many people as in this community I was hoping for some help reaching him.

Thanks!

Me too. I emailed him and raised a support ticket about my ITS1A clock over a

Re: [neonixie-l] Re: Dekatron T-Shirt

2016-03-25 Thread Keith Moore
Yes, John. I know. It is another very frustrating limitation of Cafe Press.
I only get so much "real estate".

Like I said, I am looking to get off this Cafe Press site this summer. I
have something more expansive in this area happening shortly.
I will be reworking these designs to make them larger and clearer and more
anatomically humorous. I also have some new designs that will be printed
outside of CafePress.

I will let the community know when I do this. Expect it to happen by July.
I have a hard deadline to get this going no later than that.

Re: [neonixie-l] Unnkown Nixie

2016-03-25 Thread David Forbes

Thomas,

That is the standard end-view Burroughs Nixie tube. The two extra pins are for
activating the mercury giver, I believe.

The module appears to be European in origin. We don't have capacitors like that
in the USA, and the TI chips have a European font on their labels.

The shaft sticking out appears to turn a rotary PC board switch through a miter
gear. The switch looks like it's wired to select one of the ten cathodes.
Perhaps it allows the user to set a counter trigger value.

The best neon bender I know is Bill Buth. b...@neonstreet.com. He can fix you
right up.

His Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BillieBoi

He will stay in the tube if boro glass is used. Bill can do that.

Kr is totally boring.

Xe you'll probably want filled to a high enough pressure that it snakes around
in the tube. Bill knows all this stuff too.

I'd fix you up but inconveniently, someone stole my neon plant several years
ago and I haven't been able to replace it.

You're welcome.

In the US, tubing comes in 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 17mm dia. Those
are nominal and can vary a bit. I've seen some weird sizes come out of
the orient and mexico.

Most of his stuff is 2 to 2.5' tall. The free-standing signs rest on a
plastic base that contains the transformer. Last year I bought my SIL
(who is ape-shit into flamingos) the cool-ray flamingo - the one with
the blue sunglasses. It comes up to a little above my knees.

Incidentally, another bender in the same class is Tony Greer.
neongl...@aol.com. I've begged him for years to put up a website but he
still displays on some general art site. I think you can find it by
searching his name along with "neon". He does a lot more blown stuff
than Bill does.
