Re: [neonixie-l] Foriegn Address Formats & Meanings
Not really an answer but a kind of hint. Estonian address may seem very odd as the “street” or “lane” or “avenue” isn’t written out. Som someone who lives on Long Road 55 uses the adress ‘Pikk 55’ (Pikk meaning long). In Russia you may use the street address where there maybe several houses (complexes), each with its own number and finally the number of an appartment. Living in apt 56 in the second house on Ulitsa Mira (Peace Street) would give the address: Ul Mira 56 d 2 kv 56. Re: [neonixie-l] Current kits ?
I say PVelectronics too. Got two clocks from them; one complete kit (now sold) and an “OEM” for my ZM1020 tubes. But just recently I got a kit from kama-labs.com. Looks very good, but still soldering. /M From: Jim KO5V Sent: Saturday, June 08, 2019 5:42 PM To: neonixie-l Subject: [neonixie-l] Current kits ? Good Morning, I joined this group about 2004 after buying (and actually receiving) a couple of Geekclock kits (I never received the Accessory Modules, though). I built one, and sold the other kit. I've also had a two-tube B7971 clock running for ~15 years, and I built a MOD-6 several years ago. I just finished a IN-18 clock as a gift for my brother, and that was built from a kit I bought back in 2006. The two-tube and IN-18 kits are from Claus in Germany, and I've been very happy with the way those kits were designed, and worked. Unfortunately, his web page shows that the shop is closed, and the opening date keeps moving. I hope he's OK. So, I have some nephews and nieces that have shown a lot of interest in my clocks, and they are all nearing college graduation. I would like to build them clocks as graduation presents. I have some IN-8 tubes (with pins, rather than leads), and a bunch of the Burroughs IN-12-like tubes (front-view, I can't remember the number). I'm totally out of touch with what kits are currently out there. A four-tube or six tube clock will work, and a "universal" kit is fine since I'll be making the cases, etc. I found a nice kit in Australia, but the web site is a bit strange, and I can't convince myself it's totally operational. A simple set of boards and programmed PIC is enough to get me going. I can handle the electronics, and mechanical parts, but the programming is something I just don't have the time to learn right now. I'm not a fan of the colored LED lighting of the tubes, but the kids might like it. Also, since there are six to make, cheap is good! Any suggestions for a good, cheap and basic kit will be greatly appreciated. If Claus opens up soon, I may by a couple of his universal kits, but I'm running out of time. Thanks in advance. [neonixie-l] Russian clock kit ordered
Ordered myself, or correctly my eldest son, a Nixieclock kit from this Russian producer: https://kama-labs.com/ We checked various sources and kits and the Alena IN-14 with wooden case was decided. Reports to follow. I am not that active with nixie projects. Sold one of my two clocks (as my moving to a new flat made a too big hole in my accounts) and the second need some more (wood)work. Besides, I have two VFD-displays with Russian clock-ICs, and some 6 nixie tubes from an old Fairchild DMM. No clue what to do with them. But also I am a bit intrigued by this vfd-clock: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIT-IV-22-VFD-CLOCK-WITH-RED-BACKLIGHT-USB-Powered/293058073477 /Magnus --- Detta e-postmeddelande har sökts igenom efter virus med antivirusprogram från Avast. https://www.avast.com/antivirus -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group. How To Design a Nixie Clock in 10 easy steps. 1) Research other clocks by searching the web. Get distracted by clips of funny animals and the people of Walmart. ... 2) Draw out your idea on paper and leave it lying on the table only to come back to it and find that your scribbled efforts have been put in the bin as rubbish by your beloved. 3) Order the materials you will need from the best sources which means waiting 3 months for that brass tube to arrive from China only to find out that it is absolute crap quality. 4) Plan the build of the clock and proceed in an orderly fashion only to find that the part you are holding in your hand at the end should have been installed at the start. 5) Decide on the type of finish you want to apply to the wooden parts, apply and leave to dry. When you return you will find various flying insects have expressed a desire to have a closer look and have adhered to the finish you have applied. 5a) Re-sand and repeat step 5. 5b) Repeat step 5a and avoid doing step 5a again by closing the door of the workshop when you leave it to dry. 6) When polishing metal parts on a buffing wheel make sure that you keep a good hold on them or you will spend the next 2 hours looking around your workshop to see where they landed. 7) When drilling holes in metal parts always use a sharp drill or you will find that the friction produced generates enough heat to melt your finger prints off. 8) After soldering brass parts together allow to cool sufficiently otherwise, when you pick them up you will experience the same effects that item 7 produces but on a grander scale. 9) When handling the nixie tubes always ensure that they are placed out of harms way otherwise that well known theory of Issac Newton will reduce them to scrap as they hit the solid floor of your workshop. 10) Success! After all of that you stand back to admire you creation and lacerate the back of your head on the metal sticking out of your overhead rack that you did not install high enough. Now you are a Nixie Clock builder and have the scars to prove it! Could it be done by a transport company like DHL, Schenker or other? At least in Sweden you can prepay transport by these companies. Else send a few dollarbills to your friend. You could check the return postage on US Mail's website, and sneak in the green paper (textile actually) bills between some pages in the book. I'm new here to, didn't know if it was best to create a new thread or relive an old one. I'm trying to build this same 555 power supply from the ledsales schematic http://www.ledsales.com.au/kits/nixie_supply.pdf . I don't have ready access to a scope (thinking about buying that cheap DS0201, but it'll take 2 months to arrive and I'd like to have my nixies fired up before that), but I'd like to see if you could help me troubleshoot my circuit. I built a test circuit for my 555 and it flashes the leds as expected. Did a brief test with the IRF740 and BC547 and they seem fine too. I was using the IN4004 and afetr reading this tread, changed to the UF4007. It didn't change the output. I simulated the circuit on ISIS, just to check. It worked... With 9.4V input I'm getting between 0.142V and 0.200V (changing diodes) where I should get 170V. I reduced my input all the way to 3.4V and got 3.2V output. Now talking about the things that looked weird to me with 9.4V input: - I measured the voltage before the diode and it gave me -0.21V from ground. - Changing my trimpot does no effect whatsoever (but I tested it). - Replacing IN4004 with UF4007 didn't change the output. - The MOSFET is NOT overheating. (it was in another configuration that I corrected). Anybody has any thoughts? Thanks, Sam -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group. He has like 20 of them and they have been NEVER USED. I looked everywhere. He also has seven ZM1040 that have beed used in some mesuring device, i dont know the details, they seem ok, the coating is fine, only few little scratches here and there. Does anybody know reasonable prices on those? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "neonixie-l" group. Check www.fragjanzuerst.com. Else Google the web. I have found quite a lot of kits but as I was interested in parts I dropped them.
