[NetBehaviour] Digital Licensing: Do It Yourself.

2009-05-15 Thread marc garrett
Digital Licensing: Do It Yourself.

An Introduction by Cory Doctorow.

When someone wants to license your art, characters, photos, articles or
music, how does it shake out? Chances are that these negotiations
involve expensive lawyers on both sides of the deal.

If you're running an enlightened company, you might have a Creative
Commons license hanging out there for non-commercial, fannish uses.
(Creative Commons publishes a suite of widely adopted licenses that
allow rightsholders to release their work for sharing, remixing, etc.)

But somewhere between Creative Commons and full-blown, lawyerly license
negotiation is a rich, untapped source of income for creative people and
firms with portfolios of iconic material. To cash in, you just need the
courage to let go of a little control.

[NetBehaviour] We are moving to a new Server!

2009-05-15 Thread marc garrett
Hi all Netbehaviourists,

Very soon, may be tomorrow, Sunday, Monday definitely by next Tuesday
- we will be shifting everything over from this server we are al using
presently to a brand new server.

This process will take between 7 to 10 days (we think). There is a lot
of material to shift, so if strange things happen on furtherfield, the
netbehaviour list and other connected platforms - please forgive us, we
will be trying to make this change-over as smooth as possible.

It's a big move and well over due - the server we have been on is like a
old car (although possessing some charm in its own way) with the wheels
falling off...

wishing all well.

Hello blakkbyrd,

Thank you for posting this to the list. I like the Youtube video, his mask
seems a bit strange.

Wondering if he could of chosen to have his identity pixelated instead when
editing the video.

Does jet set graffiti always wear the mask?

One of our favorite street artists, Invader, came to LA from France
recently and took a minute to explain his new Binary Code street art.
This new media utilizes hi-tech Binary Code technology combined with
his trademark lo-tech ceramic tile work as seen in urban centers all
around the world. This style of artwork is among the most progressive
and conceptually interesting in the world. Invader has definitely
continued to take it to the next level with this latest development.

No doubt that if you pay attention to street art, you’ve heard
of this artist. He’s been working in the streets of France for
many years, and his work is among the most recognizable, if not
completely understood. Now, with a simple IPhone Application called,
I-Matrix, (now known as BeeTagg) you can translate the hidden
meanings behind his street-art.

Re: [NetBehaviour] New project Zumzum Gallery: Counter Theory of Colors

2009-05-15 Thread karen blissett
Hello Montserrat,

I am an emerging artist, but your criteria mentions that submissions can
only include those who are under 30, and you only accept art that is
apolitical, thus having no interest in or association with politics - as a
gallery criteria.

For me, the most interesting, dynamic and exciting emerging art has some
form of political thought somewhere in its make-up. I am worried that your
decision to only have younger artists who are not doing anything that
includes political concepts is cutting out an awful lot of excellent
talent...

I am wondering, is it dangerous in your part of the world to allow creative
people to refer to anything political?

looking forward to your answers.

Re: [NetBehaviour] New project Zumzum Gallery: Counter Theory of Colors

2009-05-15 Thread Montserrat Bru Manobens
Hello Karen,

Cool that you´ve taken Ars politica as a way of expression.
Cool that you think that you´re doing the most interesting, dynamic and
exciting emerging art.

Cool that you got me engaged here, answering your email about making
politics, because Politics is all you think about, isn´t it?
Cool that I´ve decided to work in something completely different. Emergency
in concept and quality.

Yes, Zumzum Gallery´s criteria is intrinsically autonomous, non tendencial
and apolitical and our purpose is to promote real emerging arts created by
emerging artists, understanding emerging as original, different and new. Our
productions are always art installations/sets. New TechArts and Digital
Poetry.
This is what we do.

I don´t dig in Ars politica-Ars contrapolitica. Question of choice, allow
me! That´s why I would never promote any of it. Not in my scope. Been going
on forever. As a matter of fact, this kind of art has been supported by
churches and politicians and any other source of power and contrapower.

I´m far more interested in presenting new interactive and creative options
to the world. Cool too! And yes, under 30 artists are the ones who really
need our support. Call it positive discrimination, if you want. Cool too!

Now, to your last question: Zumzum Gallery do not need to belong or follow
any political doctrine. We feel freer than free with our criteria. Like I
said, we chose to keep autonomous, non tendencial and apolitical and focus
in real, emerging options, as we understand them.
There´s no political censorship at all in the part of the world I come from.
Europe. Cannot say the same of India, where I´m now temporarily located.
Censorship over here is fierce in any kind of issue. Anyhow, we managed to
organize the international symposium Digital Power Poetry successfully,
which is great.
http://www.digitalpowerpoetry.com/

By the way, I hope you did the survey on Color, thanks! It would be great if
you could forward the link to the Color survey to any school, university,
home for the elderly, etc. I´ll be needing at least 5000 answers to be
accurate and I value greatly the feedback of the youngest and the oldest, as
I get very few responses from them.
Thanks for your help
