Obviously you haven't set EVERYTHING up as you had it before.

Since you didn't provide any error messages, things you've tried, or
things that are hanging you up, it's a bit difficult to troubleshoot
from here.

How about trying out those spiffy docs in /usr/doc/HOWTO and seeing if
you can figure out the problem?

[newbie] Netscape questions

1999-04-06 Thread Dan Brown

Having installed Mandrake on my system, I have Netscape 4.08. I've
also downloaded the US version of 4.51 from Netscape (which, of course,
is not in an .rpm file). Is my best bet for upgrading to just remove
the existing Netscape RPM and install the downloaded .tar file?

BTW, audio is now working--I removed my MaxiSound card and installed an
Ensoniq Audio PCI I had laying around. Works great!

you can get a rpm from contrib.redhat.com or a mirror

At this point in time, it's reasonable to believe that if it's metal and runs into
your home, you'll be able to connect your computer to the Internet on it. (Personally,
I can't wait for SepticNet)

Have you verified that the login sequence is correct? Have you tried using

Yes, I am using the same ISDN-Card for two years. First under Windows
and now with Linux. You have to compile the Kernel with enabled
ISDN-Support with some options and then you have to load the module
at bootuptime or later by hand or with an application. I use kISDN,
which loads up the right module itself. If you need any help for
these Steps, I will help you. Ask me!

On Windows it runs under IRQ 10, and I want it to receive faxes in
 the background under linux (KDE).

Under Linux it is impossible, to receive faxes via ISDN. I don't know
why, but it is still so. I use an old normal modem to send and
receive faxes. Both, ISDN and modem, are running well together with
no problem.

Any help is highly appreciated, TIA.

I got windowmaker to run by running a command called wmaker.inst then
startx. Then I can switch back to kde by startx kde
In window maker you can switch to Afterstep so I haven't tried to
modify the startx to get into afterstep.

after loging in as the user you want to use kde, at the prompt type
"usekde", that should do it for you.

[newbie] problems with Xfree86 and Riva TNT AGP

1999-04-06 Thread jon kyle pula

I'm having problems trying to setup XFree86 with my RivaTNT board.

First of all, I can't find any specific RAMDAC specs for my board other than
the 250mhz, and I'm unsure about some of the other video settings.

Once I have configured XFree86 with all of the information I'm sure about,
or, at least, I think I'm sure about, and I run x windows, it goes into
320x400 mode and won't allow me to swich modes (crt + alt + '+'?).

Finaly when I give up trying to do anything in 320x400, I close the program
and return to the command prompt and see that when I booted x windows there
was an error recognizing the Nvidia TNT PCI chip set.

I'm sorry if I haven't been able to provide enough information for anyone to
help me, but if anyone has anything helpful or just fun to say, I'd
appreciate it.

Thanks,
kyle

Your ISP needs to host it on their news server(s) you could ask them to do it or
you could specify another newsserver in your config.

Re: [newbie] Linux Ram limits?

1999-04-06 Thread G_REEPER

Thanks Steve ,

The reason i was planning to go with the large ram is mostly for the windows side of
the system.
There are some tools I use that aren't ported to linux as of yet.
i was just concerned that Linux might have a little trouble with it. I will be able
to spare room for the swap, but once again I wasn't
sure if there were limits to what Linux can see.

I've been reading some on vmware, as a option of no longer dual booting. I have
found Linux to be more stable, as well as just being
fun. I now spend over 95% of my time in linux, I just wish that could be 100%.

Like always thanks for your feedback
