I haven't tried it, but it sounds good. http://www.palatialpond.com/rsync-mandrakeiso.html hth, -s I tried that, and it didn't work... Immediately came back to the command line, with no changes in the files. I checked with md5sum, and it didn't match up. Granted, I used rsync.secsup.org for the server, and it came back giving me command lines for the command which were totally different than what the article said it should be. So I'm either using a server that's set up differently or the commands just don't work that way. Either way, I think I'll stick to commandline ftp for now (to skip the GUI overhead, I usually get 10Kb more than with Gftp or any other...) If anyone gets this working, please let us know! Re: [newbie] Printing
use lpr-cups instead. Mandrake 8.2 (which I run) changed to the cups printer server and everything needs to go through it. If you have any questions about how it's configured, try going in through webmin (browser at localhost:1). It's under the Servers tab. Good luck! I didn't have this email list at the time, and spent two weeks figuring out how to do it. On Thu, 2002-08-29 at 14:33, David Seuferer wrote: Hello, I can't seem to get my printing to work. Re: [newbie] How can I run an email filter in Mozilla after it'sdefined?
That's why I like Evolution. You can use the Filters on any folder, anytime. Just select the messages, and right-click , and voila, there's Apply Filter... I don't understand why other packages can't do this? Ok, I've created the filter, now I'd like to run it to sort out my Inbox. Most email clients only use filters on incoming mail. It would be nice, though... Try www.ximian.org. Re: [newbie] Newb needs FreeSWAN with Mdk8.2 and Win98/SSH Sentinel
have you tried linuxnewbie.org? They've got pretty decent coverage of a lot of different areas, so they might have an answer... On Wed, 2002-08-21 at 06:40, Tommy Eaton wrote: Hi there, I need to setup a VPN connection from a mandrake 8.2 box and a Win98 client running SSH Sentinel. Unfortunately I have been having a rather rough time... I've read a few docs but unfortunately not all of it is clear. Recently I came across this very user friendly document: http://www.ssh.com/products/sentinel/SSH-Sentinel-1.3-FreeSWAN.pdf http://www.ssh.com/products/sentinel/SSH-Sentinel-1.3-FreeSWAN.pdf This document is ideal because it provides step by step instructions from downloading the source to the final stages (plus the PDF format is a nice look). The downside is that it's for an older version of Red Hat. I've actually thought about getting Red Hat as a last resort, but maybe you guys can enlighten me as I'd like to stay with Mandrake as much as possible... Refering to that PDF link above, I substituted the first two chapters for # Urpmi freeswan and downloading the x509 patch from http://mairas.iki.fi/projects/ipsec/ http://mairas.iki.fi/projects/ipsec/ On 3.2 it says to copy the cacert.pem to /etc/ipsec.d/cacerts/filename. But since there is no /etc/ipsec.d in mdk 8.2, I copied the file to /usr/lib/ipsec. (I also noticed in 8.2 there is /etc/freeswan directory, but that only has the ipsec.conf and ipsec.secrets file.) I also noticed that when they list /usr/share/ssl etc, it should be /usr/lib/ssl and so forth. Finally I try to setup the keys/certs with SSH sentinel. The request goes fine, the signing appears fine, but when I try to import the final signed cert, SSH doesn't seem to trust it. Can you guys see where I might be screwing up? Also, can you recommend a good step-by-step newbie how to that explains this mdk8.2/ssh sentinel setup that I am trying to accomplish? Thanks in advance! -- David A. Re: [newbie] Filesystem changed to RO! Help with returning to RW!
Thanks, Sridhar! That pointed me to the correction needed... The line was: /dev/hda1 / ext3 rw,uid=0,gid=0,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0 When I went to the backup file, I saw that somehow it had gotten changed from the original: /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 I still don't know WHAT changed it, since I'm the only one that can log on to this machine (it's my personal machine). But whatever did it, believe me, I'll keep backups religiously from now on. Only took three days to get back to normal! Now if I could only get KDE3 working! grin On Sun, 2002-08-18 at 00:03, Sridhar Dhanapalan wrote: On Sat, 17 Aug 2002 17:52:26 -0600, David A.
