Re: [newbie] Good Programming Editor
I don't know how you would do that with Moonshine unless you had access to your file through NFS or SMB. If the files are on your own server I would recommend configuring one of those to gain access to your files on the server. [newbie] Strange messages in my log files.
I found this in my /var/log/messages log: kernel: ip_masq_ftp OUT: got PASV I find no indication that anything was transfered in the xferlog file. This is on a home server and I know for a fact that my family and I haven't been using FTP. In fact no one was logged on at the time of the message. Could this be an indication that someone is using my server as a WAREZ site? Thanks.

I have a Linux server that I use for IP Masq. I wish to bring the ethernet card to the outside down before lowering my firewall to do work on the server. (I have has a LOT of attacks.) I would just unplug the cable modem but when I do that there are a lot of time out problems (delays) I was hoping that I could avoid these by taking the eth0 card off-line. Re: [newbie] How do I turn in a hacker?
Thanks Steve, I have a zero tolerance for probing. One person pointed out to me that because this guy has a fixed IP address and would therefore have to be a moron to try cracking into other computers from his IP address, it is likely that the computer with this address has been cracked and is being used by the "Dark Side." Anyway, I didn't have any luck with whois, so I have no way of turning him in or warning him. -Original Message- From: Steve Philp [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thursday, October 07, 1999 8:07 PM Subject: Re: [newbie] How do I turn in a hacker? I have successfuly installed the K-Development IDE! It looks fantastic. However (there's always a however isn't there?) the first time I ran it it configured itself and told me that it was missing about six files. Preventing me from doing several things including debugging inside the IDE! I have looked in the list of RPM files that came with Mandrake 6.0 but I can't find these. I need to know two things: 1. Where can I find the missing files? 2. How can I make the K-Development IDE go through its configuration again? The files are: sgml2html kdoc glimpse glimpseindex a2ps kdbg Thanks.

Re: [newbie] PLEASE! What do these log entries mean?!?
Ripcrd6, Although my last post concerns the same problem it also contains new information. I want to know what this guy did on my server. Turning off sendmail forever isn't an option. What do these log entries mean?!? Please only start one thread on a subject. Did you see what Steve Philip wrote? He said turn off Sendmail for a starter. Please listen and don't panic. If you don't know how to shut off sendmail, from command line type "setup" and choose "system services" from the menu. Then uncheck the sendmail daemon in the list of service launched at startup. You may need to restart or kill the sendmail daemon next. I believe you can "psaux" from command line to show all processes running and look for the ID number of the sendmail daemon. Then issue the "kill -sendmail ID#" and I think this will do it. Brian P.S.
