Re: [newbie] How do you network 2 pc´s using crossovercable???
On Friday 30 May 2003 10:24 pm, Mark wrote: I have two pc´s running 9.1 how do I network them using a crossover cable? Cheers Mark * Connect the two computers using the crossover cable * Make sure both network cards are set to the same port speed/duplex (or 'Auto') * Set the IP addresses on both computers to the same subnet. Preferably in the 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x range. 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 should work fine. * Set the IP subnet mask on both computers. 255.255.255.0 will work OK, and give you an entire Class C subnet range in the event you ever get a hub/switch and need more addresses. * You only need to use a gateway address if one of the computers is being used to the Internet via a modem and want to share the connection. In this case set the gateway address on the computer without the modem to the address of the computer with the modem. (There is more to sharing an internet connection than this, but it is beyond the scope of this email message.) Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
[newbie] DNS problem
I'm running DNS on a Mandrake 9.1 server with a Mandrake 9.0 workstation (I've been too busy to upgrade the workstation...) The problem is that DNS lookups on the workstation sometimes fails to resolve names on the first attempt, but if I try again immediately it works fine. (about once every 10 times) I don't know if this is a problem with the DNS server or the DNS configuration on the workstation. Does anyone have any idea as to what I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
[newbie] MandrakeClub Renewal
I have a couple of questions regarding renewing my MandrakeClub membership. My finances are rather tight right now so I don't know if I can afford to renew at Silver level but I can't find an option online to renew at Bronze level. Second, is it possible to renew paying on a month-to-month basis rather than a single payment? Also I'd like to hear from anyone who has purchased the 'Definitive guide to using Mandrake Linux' book. It sounds like it could either be an invaluable resource or a rehash of the Mandrake documentation. Thanks in advance. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] DVD+RW Support in Linux
Does anyone know if DVD+RWs are supported under Linux? I've seen some reasonably priced DVD+RW drives recently but the only drives I see listed as being compatible with Linux are DVD-RW drives. Also, DVD-RW drives seem to becoming harder to find lately. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
Re: [newbie] .....S.....l.....o.....w..... Printing in The GIMP
I found the problem! It seems that the printer was set up to use CUPS+GIMP Print, rather than GhostScript+GIMP Print as I thought. I switched it to GS+Gimp and it works fine now. I managed to get it to work by printing through KPrinter. Everything seems to be working fine now.
