RE: [newbie] HOW-TO get off this list

2001-03-12 Thread Jeff Norris

Hans,

That is a very adult attitude. Now if we could get 'KompuTwit' to figure out
how to act, we'd be okay. :) Maybe he's stressed from all the
activity on his Website. After all, he's had '62' visitors in the last 1.5
years!!! :)

Hans! That is an excellent idea! I'm gonna do that
   immediately, too.

Which brings up a question: is there some way to ban people

Yowie, no banning please, just use your filters if you must,
 but lt isn't
good in an open source community to start banning. Please!

GO BACK to where you joined this list...
THERE, you'll also find (if you'll ONLY read)
a way to get off the list.

OF COURSE, " IF " you can READ

RE: [newbie] STOP

2001-03-09 Thread Jeff Norris

I agree. This 'was' one of the better groups that I subscribe to. A true
wealth of information by some very knowledgeable people. Now it has proven
to be a chore to receive messages only to delete them because about half are
crap and have nothing to do with Linux. There are many, many different
forums to discuss other topics, I'm not sure why anyone would choose this
group to discuss religion etc.

Hi all,

i have a really basic question or two
to ask the group.

1. i've loaded l-m7.2 into my pc, and
it looks real cool but as yet i dont
have a clue what to do with it next. i
think i'm suffering from hyperwinism
(windoz induced inferiority complex).

2.where do i need to begin
concentrating my slow learning curve
to start making this work? my
experience is all operator/user and
some of these unix commands are
familiar from my work experience, but
most of that is task related.

i've read a few howto's and still in
the l-m installation and user guide.
i've made an icon or two in kde (but
the programs didnt work yet).

i'm kinda overwhelmed... is this
normal? or am i ungeekable?

RE: [newbie] Mandrake update: fetching of mirror list failed

2000-12-28 Thread Jeff Norris

Don't feel bad. Took me forever to get the KDE updates (and others) for 7.2.
Wouldn't find the mirrors etc. I finally got everything I needed though.

Subject: [newbie] Mandrake update: fetching of mirror list failed

Hi,
I was trying to update my Linux 7.1 using the Mandrake Update program
and
I got the message:

fetching of mirror list failed.

Then it just dumped me out of the program. I can ftp to places ok but my
netscape needs
a http proxy in order to work. How can I fix this problem?

Can I simply download the free installation from mandrake the two disks and
upgrade that
way? or will there be a lot of conflicts?

Thank you inadvance,
Sincerely,
Trevor J. Stocki

[newbie] No LS-120, or CDROMs after install

2000-12-24 Thread Jeff Norris

Hi,

I'm new here so I hope this isn't a redundant question. I've looked for, but
can't find a definite answer to my problem. I just installed
7.2, 'most' everything is fine, except!, now I have no access to my CDROM
drives (1 Burner, 1 reader) or my LS-120 floppy. The only
thing that isn't fairly generic about my setup is that I have both of my
hard drives on an embedded (motherboard) HighPoint UDMA 66 controller. Any
help would be truly appreciated as I can't even make a boot floppy as of
now.

Setup: Abit BE6 Motherboard
Diamond Viper 770 Ultra TNT Video Card
 Soundblaster PCI 512 Audio
   Imation 4x4x20 CD-RW (IDE)
 Teac 48x CDROM Drive (IDE)
 (2) IBM IDE Hard Drives
LS-120 Floppy (no 1.44 installed) (IDE)
 256 meg. PC100 memory

I read that some SCSI controllers could cause problems, but I thought that
had been fixed. The HighPoint (IDE) controller does show up as a SCSI device
though.

Thanks,

Jeff Norris... [EMAIL PROTECTED]
